Looking more closely at those teams it appears they had a very good defense. They also had Doak Walker.

HOF to me means best of the best. Active HOF QBs -
Elder Manning
Brady
Brees
Rodgers
That's pretty much it, I really don't see Big Ben getting in, even with his 2 rings.

I do think if he wins one he will get in. His numbers especially his QB rating is top 5 alltime I believe. He's never going to get the love Roger and Troy get but Romo has put a pretty nice career together so far.

The answer to your question is that aerial offenses were pretty lousy in those days. In 1952, team completion percentage average was 46.3% and 160 yards/game passing.

Roethlisberger will get in, barring him finally getting prosecuted for raping someone.

I wonder if Eli Manning ends up getting more HOF respect than he deserves simply because he won one huge Super Bowl upset for a New York franchise. Kinda reminds me of Joe Namath whose numbers were never close to HOF worthy but got in because he beat the Colts in Super Bowl III.

Big Ben is a tough one. Had he not performed so poorly in that first Super Bowl against Seattle I would say he is a lock but he probably needs to have one of those all world seasons statistically or win another Super Bowl where he is one of the main reasons like he did against Arizona on that final drive to win it.

Did I just make a case for a Stealer. Yuck.

I think based solely on the field numbers he's likely to make the HOF. Thing is he's a douche with a poor reputation off the field given his rape accusations and other issues. HOF voters do normally factor that stuff in. Though a 77-32 record as starter with 2 Super Bowl wins buys you a lot of slack.

They'll both get in him and Eli, him for being a steeler, and Eli for being a Giant.

You're mixing pure greatness with better than the rest. Because if all it means now is you're the best of the best, then Joe Namath is on their level I wouldn't put most of the QB's in the HOF next too those names. Just because McNabb gets in wouldn't mean we'd be unable to distinguish the QB's that were truly elite.

Phil Simms isn't in. He beat the the Broncos with perhaps the finest superbowl qb performance ever. 22-25 268 yards 3-0 TD/INT

What do you think about more recently retired Kurt Warner? I do think he's very close to a HOF lock.

Yeah the more I think about it and the more I look at his numbers and Super Bowls he is a lock. Probably not first ballot but definitely in.

I think he should get in, he had a phenomenal career for a grocery bag boy and he did lead 2 different teams to the Super Bowl.

Ya, didn't start a ton of seasons but his post-season play was always great.

2-Time League MVP
Super Bowl MVP
Made it to 3 Super Bowls, very nearly winning all of them
9-4 postseason record with a 103 QB rating
Has a crapload of Super Bowl passing records
2-time All-Pro 1st Team
4-time Pro Bowler

Had his career ended with St. Louis he wouldn't have made the HOF. His later years with Arizona probably locked him in as HOF'er.

Kurt is a lock. He has the numbers, the awards, the ring. Took two doormat franchises to the Super Bowl and got one win.

Kurt should be a lock because when healthy, he simply dominated both in the regular season and postseason. If you go to wikipedia, they list tons of records that he holds, shares or previously held.

Wow, even more records than I thought. The first one has to be the most impressive. Montana played in 4 Super Bowls and had fewer SB passing yards than Warner.

Quote:
Most career yards passing in Super Bowl history – 1,156 yards
Most yards passing in a Super Bowl game – 414 yards (against Tennessee Titans)
Most yards passing with no interceptions in a postseason game – 414 yards (Super Bowl XXXIV)
Three highest passing yardage totals in Super Bowl history: Warner also owns the 2nd highest (377 yards against Pittsburgh in Super Bowl XLIII) and 3rd highest (365 yards against New England in Super Bowl XXXVI) passing yardage totals in Super Bowl history.
Only quarterback to throw 400+ yards in a Super Bowl game
Most touchdown passes in a single postseason – 11 touchdowns (in 2009, tied with Joe Montana in 1990)
Most yards passing in a single postseason – 1,147 yards (in 2009)
Most yards passing in a single postseason, 3 games played – 1,063 yards (in 1999)
Highest completion percentage in a single game (regular season) – 92.3% (24/26) (9/20/09)
Highest rate of games with 300+ yards passing (min. 100 games played) – 41.9% (52/124)
Most consecutive games with 300+ yards passing – 6 games (tied with Steve Young and Rich Gannon)
Most career games with a perfect passer rating (regular season) – 3 games (tied with Peyton Manning and Ben Roethlisberger)
Fastest player to pass for 30,000 yards – 114 games (tied with Dan Marino)
Fastest player to pass for 10,000 yards
Only quarterback to throw for over 14,000 yards with two different teams (St. Louis Rams and Arizona Cardinals)
Only quarterback to throw 40 touchdowns and win a Super Bowl in the same season (in 1999)
Most yards passing in the first three games of a season – 1221 yards (2000
Most yards passing in the first four games of a season – 1557 yards (2000)
Most yards passing in the first five games of a season – 1947 yards (2000)
Most yards passing in the first six games of a season – 2260 yards (2000)
Most yards passing in the first seven games of a season – 2445 yards (2000)(Injured during game, missed the next 5 games)
Highest average passing yards per game on Monday Night Football – 329.4 yards (min 7 games)

Montana didn't need to pass because he knew he'd win

...very true. From the supermarket to the Super Bowl. He'll get in for sure. The previously posted stats on Kurt are remarkable considering his beginnings. If Trent Green doesn't get hurt, Kurt may have faded into oblivion.

Kurt Warner is a first ballot hall of famer.
2 time NFL MVP
Two historically awful franchises to the Super Bowl
If it weren't for last minute collapses by his teams defense, he could have 3 rings.
Gone to super bowl every season in which he started all games
Top 3 passing yards in Super Bowl
GREATEST SHOW ON TURF

Warner was on pace for 5588 yards in 2000 before he got injured.

Aaron Rodgers is not a lock for hall of fame at this point in his career, he doesn't even have an MVP yet. If he retired right now, would you vote him in? Nah.
Playing like he is now, in 2-3 years he'll probably be a lock

Big "rapist" Ben could get in but it'll take him a few years
