The Packers signed Jordan Love to a four year extension worth $220 million.

he may be a talent and eventually worth this but signing him to this after half a good season is a bit crazy. I haven't heard details but some are saying it may be a combination of incentive laden, back loaded or team friendly enough that it can be restructured every couple of years.
This is also setting the market for what the Niners are going to have to pay Brock.

MIA also extended Tua, 4 yrs $212m

Didn’t Trevor Lawrence get a deal just like that? He hasn’t really done much either.

Another 1st overall pick who hasn't lived up to their draft pedigree.

I like the Love deal more than the Tua one who is still a hit away from possible Retirment. You can't take those concussions back, and that is a risky deal to make but understand why they had to.

I guess this is what the game is, the RB money went to mostly extra for qb's and the rest of it to wr's contracts. Wonder if the NFL might think of setting minimum - maximum contract deals so we don't get this continued escalation of only certain positions.

This is pointless and completely takes the fun away from the play.

We knew about this since march so not really news.

What fun ?? nobody returns kicks anymore.
Super Bowl had 13 kickoffs & 0 were returned....thats stupid....so they had to do something.

If teams kick into endzone other team gets it at 30.
If too many teams keep kicking into endzone theyll just change the rule to the 35 to increase returns.

I knew about the changes to the kickoff rule but this was the first I had heard of the onside kick rule. Kinda sucks but at the same time they were very rarely successful.
I did always like once in a while a coach would call for one when trying to be sneaky and catch the other team off guard, those were always fun.

Almost seems like they changed it just to change it, i never seen the onside kickoff rules as something that needed fixing to be honest.

No they didnt do it to change the onside kick rule.
They changed the kickoff rule because theres too many touchbacks & not enough returns anymore.

But now with where the players have to line up on kickoffs & when they can move (i hope everyone at least knows about those changes) the old onside kick was impossible to do so they had to change it.

The problem is with the old rule & even with this new rule the onside kick is still almost impossible to recover.
They shouldve just gone to the proposal of the team has to complete a 4th & 15.

Well i can tell you for certain when you have to go tell the other team you are onside kicking it becomes absolutely pointless. The element of surprise was how most onside kicks were recovered, it shouldn't be something that has a high success rate but this change is straight dumb imo!

I think a 4th and 15 rule would have an opposite effect and would be almost too easy for good teams to convert.

4th and 15 sounds harder than an onside kick

easier than an onside kick but not necessarily easy, even for good teams

Not imo, just for instance while not 15 yards as they dont break down every 4th down stat. But a guy like Brady in his career had a 60% completion rate 91 completions on 153 attempts for almost 1,000 yards in his career on 4th down passing plays. I just think getting a guy open to catch a 15+ yard pass is much easier than getting the perfect kick and bounce to recover a kick.

Over the last 10 yrs 4th & 15 situations have conversion rate of about 20%.
Before all the kickoff rule changes over the last few yrs onside kick conversion rate was about 10%.

Alot like the 20% because it gives teams that are losing still a chance to win & thats the point to keep people invested in the game.

Cause the way it is now if a team is up by 9 late in the game even if the losing team has the ball the game is basically over since even if the losing team scores its almost impossible to recover the onside kick & get a chance to win the game.
