this is playing out like Russ in DEN. ATL doesn't believe they'll be able to make a trade in the offseason. By releasing him, he will be a FA any team signing him can offer the vet minimum (like Russ) but ATL will still be paying him.
I know he has been a TO machine this season, most have been in the last six games or so, but ATL is only a game back from TB in the NFC South and holds the tiebreaker over them so this timing is a bit weird.

If this does indeed happen, you think Lynch and Shanahan go after him? Ever since Kyle became HC, Cousins has been a rumored option at QB before Brock emerged. Kyle finally gets him on the roster, the 49ers get a veteran as a backup and they don’t have to pay a whole lot to do it.

he would be great to have as a backup but I get the feeling with a QB light draft and no marquee FA QB's someone like the Raiders, Giants or Jets may scoop him up. Some team out there will see him as a suitable bridge QB.
Whatever the case, for us I am just hoping for a quiet drama free offseason.

If the Vikings beat the Packers on Sunday I'm guessing the week 18 game against the Lions will be flexed to Sunday night.
