The Lions had two new proposals.

No first down with defensive holding or illegal contact.
Playoff seeding is based on record not division.

What happens on 3rd and long situations once the automatic first down is eliminated from both penalties? Teams will risk getting flagged if the result is only 5 yds, this kind of encourages defensive holding and illegal contact.

As for playoff seeding by record instead of division, what’s the incentive for winning the division then? Yes there are times where a wild card team has a better record than a division winner, but it doesn’t warrant the proposed change imo. The playoff system is fine as is, no need to mess with it again.

You want to change something, how about getting rid of the spot of the foul bs on PI calls. Make it an x amount penalty (15 yds for example) or an automatic first down.

I think no more then 15 yards for PI makes sense. Yet it could be the same issue. A team would rather give up 15 than a touchdown.

I’ve got a couple of co-workers who are Giants fans, they’ve been pretty quiet the last few yrs. It’s going to be a fun Monday morning….for me, not for them.

Incentive is guarantees a playoff spot.
But yes i agree keep as is.
Example this yr "better team" 14 win MIN wouldve played at "worse team" 10 win LAR.
Game got moved due to the fires yet LAR clobbered them.

2nd, 3rd, and 4th seeds also get a home game in the Wild Card round. They would lose that if they changed to seeding based on record. Last season, the Texans won the division with a 10-7 record while the Chargers finished 2nd in their division with an 11- 6 record. Based on the new proposed seeding, the Chargers would get home field advantage in the first round (this is just an example, a couple of other teams finished 10-7 too). Pretty dumb if you ask me.

Yep but like i said incentive in winning division it still locks in a playoff spot.

It wouldn’t under the new seeding. Remember the 2010 Seahawks? The 2014 Panthers? Or how about the 2020 Commanders? The 2nd seed losing their first rd bye and having to play wild card weekend made sense considering they were adding another playoff game. This change doesn’t make any sense

Yes it would.
The 7 playoff teams would still be determined the same way 4 div winners & 3 wcs.
But then AFTER that they would be seeded by record.

"Division champions would still get in. They would no longer be guaranteed a home game, and their spot on the playoff tree would be determined relative to the records of the other playoff teams in the conference."

Back on the Tush Push, the pushing a player rule was removed in 2005. Pulling a player is not allowed.

I didn't like it when Peyton cried to the league and made them change the rules so he would have a chance against those Patriots defenses, and I sure as hell don't like this with other teams crying foul against a legal play! The Eagles did a great job of drafting and building a team capable of pulling off that play with a very high success rate, should be on other teams to find a way to stop it imo.

So, for that skill and having the hosses on the front line to pull it off with great drafting and team building, it gets rewarded by being banned because the poor babies of the league don't like they can't do it themselves!

Because as mentioned in the example they feel that "better" 14 win MIN shouldve played at home against "worse" 10 win LAR instead of vice versa.

As we’ve seen time and time again, record doesn’t necessarily mean a team is better. Giants won the SB with 9 and 7 record. Then you have strength of schedule, a 9 win division winner has a tougher schedule compared to an 11 win 2nd place team in another division for example. Or what if the 9 win team beat the 11 win team during the regular season? Don’t see it happening anytime soon, if at all. Too many factors.

Yes but what they're saying is since seeds 1-4 & then 5-7 are already seeded by record why not just seed 1-7 by record.
I don't see it happening either I'm just saying why some have suggested it.
