True...if all 3 teams lose outright than the pick goes to the Colts. But nothings guaranteed obviously and winning @Jacksonville is a possibility.

Thats the problem with resigning Manning. If he comes back at the $26 million pricetag I can't imagine how they're gonna afford certain players such as Reggie Wayne. Thus why it's best they tank at Jacksonville and secure the #1 pick. Yeah a win is a win but does this really help the team going into next season honestly.

Dominant D makes 49ers dangerous

Yet this is just the type of team that has succeeded in postseasons past.

The 2000 Baltimore Ravens won Super Bowl XXXV with a dominant defense and Trent Dilfer at quarterback. The 2002 Tampa Bay Buccaneers won Super Bowl XXVII with another distinguished defense and Brad Johnson at quarterback.

These 49ers already have stymied explosive attacks in Philadelphia and Detroit, and are capable of doing the same to New Orleans or Green Bay. The precedent is there, and so is the talent on San Francisco's defense.

It is that good with Smiths alone. Defensive end Justin Smith personifies the effort and intensity that these 49ers constantly give. Rookie linebacker Aldon Smith has 13 sacks and needs two more to break Jevon Kearse's single-season rookie sack record.

And 49ers linebackers Patrick Willis and NaVorro Bowman are as good as any linebacking tandem in the league, including any in Baltimore or Pittsburgh.

As good as the Packers and Saints are, San Francisco is just as scary, though in an entirely different way. During a season in which so much of the football conversation has been about Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees and Tom Brady and Tim Tebow, San Francisco's defense is capable of sneaking up on anyone not expecting it.

The 49ers already have upset the Eagles, Lions and Steelers. Be forewarned. They also are tough enough to upstage the faces of football and this entire season.

Apparently so, I certainly wouldn't compare them to the Super Bowl champion Ravens or Buccaneers' defenses. Run defense wise sure but that pass defense is an absolute sieve.

Yup, all of their 11 wins were just pure luck as all their opponents tanked their games to get a better draft pick.

No but they're not exactly dominating most teams either. That defense is NOT good enough to carry Alex Smith in the play-offs against offenses like the Saints or the Packers or even dare I say, the Cowboys.

Week 17 Flex Decision to Come by Monday Night

As of now here is the list of possibles

Skins @ Eagles
Detroit @ Green Bay
Ravens @ Bengals
Bucs @ Falcons
Jets @ Dolphins
Bills @ Pats
Boys @ Giants
Titans @ Texans
Chiefs vs Tebow

And so, for now, it appears that the best candidates are Cowboys-Giants and Chiefs-Broncos. We’ll know more by Monday night.

CBS and FOX cannot protect games in Week 17 FYI

The problem I have with the Lions is they have no healthy good runningbacks and that offense really is still just Matt Stafford to Calvin Johnson. Nate Burleson and Titus Young are all right but they don't really scare anybody. Pettigrew is a bit of a wild card but Stafford has to throw it to him first. Actually think the Falcons have a better offense than the Lions.

give stafford another legitimate threat to throw to and i'll be scared...but until then, i don't think they can be considered an "elite" team.

Romo has 4, which is more than a lot of offenses have and now he has a running game, provided Felix can stay healthy. Not sure how I'd feel about trotting out Chauncey Washington and Sammy Morris at RB but I doubt it would end well. Looks like our season's going to come down to how far Romo can take us with his arm, again.

Hoping this is the year he gets some well-earned post-season success but I REALLY don't like our chances even at home against Atlanta. I actually like them more against the 49ers so if we get past the wild card round I could see us going to the NFCCG.

romo just doesn't seem to be a clutch QB and tends to blow it in big games.

and i think he's actually in his own head about the whole thing too.

Honestly I have to give him a pass on the Seattle game, his gaffe was as a holder and he still had the presence of mind to almost score.

The 2007 Giants game he was really 2 bad defensive plays and 2 boneheaded plays away from leading the Cowboys to a big win over the Giants

2009 he helped us smoke the Eagles in the play-offs and then got rocked every time he dropped back against Minnesota, didn't help that our defense played like crap.

2010 we missed the play-offs as our defense fell apart.

Not sure what to expect this year, hoping for our sake Felix lasts the rest of the way and Rob can work some more magic with last year's horrendous defense.

Was at the Falcons/Lions game earlier this year and you may be right. It was a close ballgame but Stafford really didn't get things going. Their running game is non-existent, hence the loss. With the Browns out (AGAIN), I'd like to see the Lions at least win a playoff game. First they have to get there. They have to beat San Diego at home this weekend as they don't want to go to Green Bay next week, HAVING to win.

Well the Falcons have 2 stud wide outs, a good #3, a HOF TE and a solid RB. Matty Ice may be over-rated but his supporting cast makes up for that and they ARE almost impossible to beat in Atlanta. Thankfully if we play them it'll be in Dallas, where we are tough to beat and much more likely to win.

Their 3 wideouts are Great and then there's Gonzalez at TE. Seeing them in person sure made me appreciate how talented they are. Exceptionally fast and running nice crisp routes. Five of me couldn't cover one of them.
