DECATUR, Ga. -- Pittsburgh Steelers star wide receiver Hines Ward has been arrested in Georgia on a drunken driving charge.

The DeKalb County sheriff's office says the former Super Bowl MVP and Dancing With the Stars champ was arrested early Saturday. He was booked into the DeKalb County jail in suburban Atlanta at 3:41 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence. He was released on $1,300 bond.

The sheriff's office said it had turned over paperwork to the courts and couldn't release any further information about the player's arrest.

A Steelers spokesman did not immediately respond to a message, and it was not immediately clear if Ward had an attorney.

The 35-year-old Ward played football at the University of Georgia.

I'll never understand why athletes don't hire a driver when they know they are going to be drinking. Is it really worth the risk?

Pacman Jones arrested at bar

Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones was arrested at a bar late Saturday night for disorderly conduct while intoxicated and resisting arrest, local reports say.

Four months after settling a case that punctuated a slew of off-the-field trouble for the 27-year-old NFL veteran, he was taken into custody after being repeatedly asked to leave a Cincinnati bar for rowdy behavior, WKRC-TV has reported, citing court documents.

Two police officers were forced to physically restrain Jones to apply handcuffs as he fought to pull away, the TV report says. Jones had been yelling profanities and waving his arms violently, according to WKRC-TV.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has stated that players will still be subject to review and discipline under the personal-conduct policy for potential violations during the lockout.

In late February, Jones was sentenced in Las Vegas to probation and 200 hours of community service under a plea deal for his role in a 2007 strip club melee.

He spends more time behind bars than on a football field. What a waste of talent, I hope Goodell bans him for a couple years this time.

From what I heard Friday they hit a snag, but hopefully the court decision that came out forces them to get it going.

It's very likely that arrests that occurred during the lockout will not be subject to discipline, so players like Kenny Britt and Pacman might not get into any trouble for their recent arrests. The NFL will likely try to take the position that players are still subject to the personal conduct policy but the NFLPA will argue that the policy stopped being in effect once the league locked out the players, and from what I've read the NFLPA is probably correct. This will probably be decided when they are finalizing the new CBA.

Pacman may still be done though. I wouldn't be surprised if the Bengals released him, although he is signed to such a cheap contract ($640,000 in 2011) that they may opt to keep him rather than trying to find someone once the brief free agency window opens.

Considering how cheap Mike Brown is, how he doesn't seem to care about off the field issues, and the fact that they could lose Jonathan Joseph in free agency...It would not surprise me if the Bengals kept him as long as the league doesn't suspend/ban him.

There is no definite date for the Hall of Fame game to be canceled. If the deal is done by July 21 like currently projected they'd likely play the game even though it would be incredibly sloppy with a lot of free agent pickups who don't even know the offense and defense and have only had a week of training camp (at best).

While ESPN is pushing the July 21 date as the projected date for the new CBA to be ratified I've read that the owners are pushing that date to writers to publicize to try and force the players into a deal. I read that in reality they aren't that close to a deal and it would be a surprise to have it done by then, especially without the sides really meeting and the mediator on vacation.

i think this season will be incredibly sloppy! at least the first few weeks, and forget the rookies doing anything this season
