In a bit of a surprise the Bears have fired GM Jerry Angelo. Angelo had been Bears GM for 10 years. This makes Lovie Smith's future a bit uncertain. A new GM may want to hire his own head coach but Smith is unlikely to be fired considering the Bears made the NFC championship last year and the team was playing well this year until they lost Cutler, but if the Bears don't make the playoffs next year Smith is almost certainly a goner.

Edit: The Bears have announced that Lovie Smith will be their coach in 2013. Smith has 2 years left on his contract and is believed to make about $5 million per year.

I'm definitely a Stafford fan and anti-Cowboys (but I like Romo and Ware), but Stafford's numbers are a little deceiving: he threw way more passes thanks in large part to a terrible running game.

Who?
Also the Colts were competitive for almost a decade and now they suck and have to fire everybody? If I were Andrew Luck I would not want to go to a team with such a fluid situation, even if it meant I had to pull an Eli Manning/John Elway.

He also has Calvin Johnson. I say this because Stafford quite frequently would throw into triple coverage and Johnson would go get it anyway. Having a receiver like that does a decent job of padding the QB stats.

*EDIT* Having said all that I'd still put Stafford in over Romo. 5000 yards is noteworthy enough.

Jags are in the process of meeting offensive coordinators Mike Mularkey (Falcons) and Brian Shottenheimer (Jets) for the potential head coaching job.

I could see the argument for Mularkey but are they really allowed to talk to him while the Falcons are still alive in the race for the Super Bowl?

I don't understand how Schottenheimer is getting head coaching interviews. His offense has been the Jets problem for the last 3 years and he has done a terrible job developing Mark Sanchez.

Riiiiiiiiiiight blame the coordinator for your horrible offense. Ever think your offense sucks because of the personnel and not the guy calling the plays? Doubt that long term injury to your best receiver helped either.

Yeah I'm not impressed with the current selection. I'd keep Mel Tucker if we can't find a more successful coach.

good thing about the packers....mccarthy is the play caller.

don't have to worry about someone targeting us to pull a coach!!!

and dom capers did us fans a favor w/us having the 31st def. in the league this year. no one s/b looking @ him as a head coach for a while.

huh? Edsall is the head coach at UMD (who was said to have a very slim shot at the Jags job)

Packers ended up with the 32nd ranked defense. They gave up 411.6 yard per game, just edging out the Patriots 411.1 YPG by 8 total yards.

Isn't it 50/50 between himself and Rodgers?

Also I was talking with a football buddy and according to him, Capers making our Def 32nd is all part of his plan going into the playoffs, what do you think Benny?

mccarthy sends the play in and rodgers has free reign to change it if he sees something in the def. when he gets to the line.

while that would be nice if it were true, that doesn't explain our lack of a pass rush all season and our shaky @ best 2ndary.

does anyone have any stats on where the packers def. finished in sacks this season??

they have to be one of the 5 worst in the league.

Packers finished tied for 27th with 29 sacks. The only teams worse were the Titans with 28 and Buccaneers with 23.

New England led the AFC in takeaways and turnover diff, but Green Bay had better numbers at both. Brady threw two interceptions over his last eight games, Rodgers three over his last seven, having not played this past weekend. Neither of the starting running backs fumble very often, Law Firm having never lost a fumble in his career and Grant losing just one this season.

So, then it would have to come down to matchups. The biggest differences I see between these teams on Defense is pash rush and defensive backs. Green Bay has Matthews and New England had Andre Carter, who is now on IR. However the Pats finished with 11 more sacks than the Packers. The Packers obviously have the better defensive backs, with seven more interceptions than the Patriots.

It's a very difficult question to answer, because of how poorly both have performed. Ultimately I'd have to give the Patriots an edge, because of their triumvirate of receiving options(welker, gronk, hernandez) particularly the TEs against GBs linebackers and safeties, unless Jennings can return to form in the playoffs after his injury. I wonder if the packers would put Woodson on Gronkowski or Welker?

Blu-Benny, since you're a Packers fan (and I think they'll be in the SB again) your team may lose McKensie. My team (Colts) probably will go after him to be our new GM.
