Like Brees or Manning need to worry about the franchise tag. As long as they don't get severely injured or drop off in talent they will be making big money for 5-8 more years each.

Yeah, but without a franchise tag Manning would be a free agent this year and Brees next year and they could likely get more money if a bidding war started. I really don't understand Manning making this threat. There's no way he would leave the Colts, and he's going to get the biggest deal in NFL history, likely worth $20-$25 million per year with around $60 million guaranteed.

Maybe he wants to be arod greedy and get 26 instead of 25.

Is Manning really that in love with Indy still? I believe all his coaches(Tom Moore, Howard Mudd, Tony Dungy) that you always heard he loved are gone now. Not saying that he doesn't like any of the new coaches, but he can't be as attached to his coaches like he used to be. If you plug Manning into the Redskins(for example) are they worse than the Colts with Manning? I don't think so. If another team offered significantly more than the Colts and they were unable to match, I think Manning could consider leaving. I don't think he is a lock to stay with the Colts his entire career.

According to the previously mentioned ESPN article, the Redskins could potentially have to spend $45 million to meet the cap floor. Would it really be such a long shot for Snyder to throw a huge chunk of that at Manning? He has thrown large amounts of cash at far inferior players. I'm not saying that there is much of a chance at this, but it's an interesting scenario for a team with nobody at quarterback. Going forward with John Beck as your starting quarterback is laughable. Would there be a worse starting qb in the league?

I think Manning is a guy that cares a lot about his legacy, and he would know that staying with one team for his whole career would be a great legacy move. There also isn't a team that can offer what the Colts can. They've built the offense around him. He's got a great receiving core and offensive line. Washington has no receiving core and a sub-par offensive line. In addition the Colts would never let another team outbid them for Manning. They may not be able to give as much upfront money but they would make up for it on the backend.

Regardless, it might be a moot point. Manning, Brees, and Vincent Jackson have reportedly softened their stance on a franchise exemption after a backlash from fellow NFL players, fans, and writers, and the NFLPA has reportedly decided that they won't try to get any special consideration for the named plaintiffs. If the plaintiffs get nothing then Manning will stay with the Colts as they made him an exclusive rights free agent and Jackson and Mankins will likely stay with their current teams as franchise players, although I wouldn't be shocked if Mankins held out for as long as 10 weeks if he doesn't get a long-term deal.

Receiving corps, Fate. Receiving corps. Holy crap! I just got to correct Fate on something. I'm a genius. Jk.

I'm glad they're getting crap for trying to pull this crap. I mean honestly...what's the point? Seriously, explain it to me. What could they gain from getting these last minute requests granted?

English was never my strong suit.

I'm curious when the supplemental draft is going to happen. To my knowledge a date still hasn't been set, and Terrell Pryor (and former Georgia running back Caleb King, who will not be selected) will want to have a pro day. I just can't imagine many NFL personnel people willing to give up the time to travel to wherever the pro day is when they're going to be so busy signing free agents.

Osi Umenyiora will reportedly consider holding out of training camp if the Giants don't pay him like one of the top five defensive ends in the league.
Umenyiora has already testified that GM Jerry Reese broke a promise to restructure his contract, but he won't hold up a CBA settlement because his beef isn't with the NFL. "He assumes they'll throw some cash at him or something," a source tells the New York Daily News. "But do you really think he's not going to sign off on a deal? No." Facing salary cap concerns, the Giants aren't expected to give in to Umenyiora's demands

Yeah I'd say he's MAYBE a top 40 DE, I'd pay him about $7 million a year or let him walk. Giants have cap issues, so they may not be able to offer him even that much.

I agree, though he did have 11.5 sacks and 10 forced fumbles last season. He did more than half of that in the month of October so you have to consider consistency. I don't think the Giants are going to give him that money if they can even afford it. I can see another team willing to pay him more than the Giants will want to offer. I've seen the Seahawks mentioned as a possible spot for him.

Dang, I definitely can't name 39 DE that are better than him. $7 mil a year for a player who you aren't sure is top 40 at his position? Typo? lol

Just saw that Kris Jenkins retired, he was a good player but smart decision on his part for retiring due to his injuries, his health is more important than anything and he is still young, 31 years ago, about to turn 32 next month, I wish Kris the best of luck in his retirement!

Well the problem I have with Osi is he's not much of a run-stopper and he disappears at times. I consider him an inconsistent pass rusher so yeah I'd say he's maybe a top 40 guy. However "top shelf" pass rushers like him tend to make bank and in a free agency that's going to be over before you can blink, he will no doubt get a much bigger contract than he's worth.

It sounds like the new CBA is being held up by plaintiffs Vincent Jackson and Logan Mankins demands for compensation. CBS Sports Mike Freeman said the process has slowed due to the duos demand for $10 million. Jackson said on his Twitter account on Tuesday "Preciate the support guys! Can't believe all u read or see in media.I have made no demands, I wanna play ball like the rest of my peers!" Apparently that isn't the truth and the NFL/NFLPA need to deal with Jackson and Mankins before a new CBA can be finished. Freeman thinks the players will drop their demands today due to criticism from the league's 1,900 other players.

Appearing on ESPN Radio Thursday, ESPN's Sal Paolantonio reported that Kevin Kolb is already looking at real estate in Arizona.
Kolb seemed convinced he'd be traded to the Cardinals on a recent Dan Patrick Show appearance, so it's not surprising that he's already perusing the real estate market. The obvious stumbling block to a Kolb-Cardinals trade is the amount of compensation. It's expected to include Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a draft pick, and Arizona will also have to fork over a long-term deal at least in the Matt Cassel range (six years, $63 million).

If I were the Cardinals GM I would not give up a good young corner in Rodgers-Cromartie plus reportedly a second or third round pick for Kolb, and I certainly wouldn't give him a big contract unless it was backloaded to the point where Kolb wouldn't be making serious money until year 3 of the deal (which Kolb's agent wouldn't agree to). If I was the Cardinals I'd rather sign Matt Hasselbeck to a 2-year deal and draft a QB next year.

In all seriousness, if they won't drop this stuff to get the CBA done, I would blacklist both of them from the NFL. All the other 1900 players along with owners are working together to get football back. If 2 guys wanna hold that up let them go play somewhere else and get their 10 million. But that isn't possible.

I love how V-JAX totally said that wasn't the truth and it really is. What a d-bag.

BIG NEWS: Albert Brier is reporting that the owners will vote on a new CBA deal today and then the players will vote on the new CBA tonight at 8pm.
