Tsk, great QBs don't need great coaching. Alex Smith simply lacks play-making ability with his arm, that's not something that's going to change 7 years into his career. Took 7 years to reach the post-season, that's just pathetic.

I'm aware, but I just don't know if I buy this. I just don't think he's going to develop into an elite QB this far into his career. The dude has a career TD:INT ratio of 1.17 over seven seasons, and that's after he posted a career best ratio of 3.4 for this season. Alex Smith's career QB rating is a 76; compare that to Drew Brees' stint in San Diego where Brees averaged an 87, for example.

But like I said, the only Niners game I watched this year was Alex Smith vs. the Baltimore Ravens. And honestly, he never even had a chance in that game. The Niners gave up like ten sacks, and he was running for his ****ing life all night long. I hope the O-Line has patched up its holes...

As an aside, I did make a mistake in that lengthy post up there when I said I thought that all of the 1/2 seeds would advance (forgot NO is the 3-seed).

I never said Smith would/should have been a great QB, I'm just saying it did not help his development.

Ugh, ESPN just showed a ten-minute clip about the Tuck Rule Game consisting of interviews of refs and players from both teams (ten-year anniversary is this week).

Yeah, I know.

I have no allegiance to the Raiders, only to the game of football itself, but I hope the Patriots never win another Super Bowl in my lifetime because of that incident. Or even better, I hope the Patriots one day lose a game because of that stupid ****ing rule. Mike Pereira said this about the rule after it was enforced in a Ravens/Chiefs playoffs game last year: "I think it’s time to change this rule. A pass should only be ruled incomplete if the ball comes loose in the actual act of passing the ball."

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I believe he had 5 offensive coordinators in 5 years and has had a different receiving corp just about every year. However when you're the #1 pick in the draft, more is expected of you, especially when you get picked over Aaron Rodgers. Not to mention the success of both #1 pick Manning brothers.

Well here we are - 2012. It's now the 5 year anniversary of Oakland drafting the guy who would do the impossible - make the Ryan Leaf pick look good by comparison. It's funny listening to the analysts rave about how great he'll be in this video. Someone compares him to John Elway...

Check out the list of QB's drafted in 2007. Complete disaster. I guess Kevin Kolb was the "best" of the bunch.

1st round: JaMarcus Russell, Brady Quinn
2nd round: Kevin Kolb, John Beck, Drew Stanton
3rd round: Trent Edwards
4th round: Isaiah Stanback
5th round: Troy Smith, Jeff Rowe
6th round: Jordan Palmer
7th round: Tyler Thigpen

No gm could have done right that year from a qb standpoint. I guess philly did since they turned an average qb into some good draft picks.

Wow. I'd never seen the draft video for JaMarcus Russell before.

That is...unbelievable.

"Instantly Energize Raider Nation"

Hilarious in hind-sight.

Just in case I didn't get them in earlier -
Patriots over Broncos
Ravens over Texans
Saints over 49ers
Giants over Packers
Can't wait to see who gets the most correct picks this weekend.

come on Niners...win this for the city of Bay Area

I think the Saints offense is just too much for Niners defense.

Anyhow, I'll be very surprised if Niners win today.... Not too many people respect the SF at all, but I hope the players, especially Alex Smith use that to beat Saints.

Saints over 49ers... Brees/Sproles will be too much for them to handle ... But it would be nice to see the win, for Alex Smith and the Bay Area...
Pats over Donkeys... Pats are too good to lose to the Tebows...
Packers over Giants... Aaron Rodgers, enough said
Ravens over Texans... Ravens D will dominate this game!

Probably whomever picks all the favorites. The only game that isn't a real mismatch is Saints-Niners IMO. And I still think the Saints win that one.

I believe this is the first ever divisional round weekend where 4 Super Bowl MVP quarterbacks are playing, too bad at most only 3 can make it to the next round but it should still be quite exciting!
