Nowadays coaches like Noll or Landry would get canned after one or two bad seasons and be forgotten to history. Knee-jerk coach firings are the new norm.
Honestly I'd bring in SOMEBODY to teach Jason how to manage games and run the offense. I mean look at Sean Payton, he was an iffy offensive coordinator in Dallas too but now that he's the head coach in New Orleans, his offense is breaking records. Garrett is either not good enough yet or will never be, I think next year will be huge for his future in the NFL. The guy is 13-11, not impressive at all, especially when you consider how many games the Cowboys have blown in the 4th quarter under his watch.

I'm shocked by those won/loss records. Back then they were patient with development, unlike today's quick fix society . Those 2 guys only went to 9 Super Bowls between them.

Who do you all think the candidates will be for the Colts HC job? I know who I WANT (Jon Gruden) but I know that's just a pipe dream.

I wanted Gruden in Cleveland after they fired Romeo. Why Chuckie isn't coaching somewhere is beyond me. I mean, his Bucs beat His Raider defense for a ring. He's fire & brimstone and probably sleeps with a football.....he needs to be in the league.

He has the perfect job right now though. He gets to talk football with no stress and makes millions. Why would you leave that? He already has his ring.

These days it seems like coaches are far more likely than ever before to be content quitting coaching. They can collect huge paychecks for more or less doing nothing (BS'ing in a studio) one or two days each week during the season as opposed to being a head coach - a job that's basically 365 days a year. Some guys just too competitive to leave the sidelines, but it does seem like more and more are burning out and walking away. To be honest I always considered Jon Gruden a bit overrated to begin with. His brother Jay Gruden is one guy deserving of a head coaching job though. However it appears he's happy being an OC with Cincy at the moment.

It certainly seems to be the way things are, which is surprising to me. This game is in their blood and I still think Gruden and that "Former Squeeler" will be on the sidelines again. What's "Marty" been doing? He's my all-time fave.

Marty and Bernie.

Anyone but the Ravens winning the Super Bowl sounds good to me or else we'll have to hear them brag about winning with the two worst QB's in SB history(Dilfer and Flacco).

That Flacco press conference last week was pretty funny and what he said is true. He'll have nothing to do with the win and he didn't, the Texans handed him 4 turnovers, some short fields, and he only won by 7.

He'll need to step up like Alex Smith if they want to beat the Patriots.

He'll need to do alot more than that to beat the Pats, if it comes down to it (meaning the defense isn't stopping the Pats). It also doesn't help when even your own teammates don't have faith in you (referring to Ed Reeds comments)

The Chicago Tribune reports the Raiders have requested permission to interview Bears OC Mike Tice for their head-coaching vacancy.
The Bears just promoted Tice from offensive line coach to offensive coordinator on January 6. Tice, of course, is the former head coach of the Vikings. After taking over as interim coach late in 2001, Tice was hired full time, guiding the Vikes to a 32-33 record and one playoff appearance before being let go following the 2005 season. Tice has drawn raves for his work with an under-manned Bears' offensive line the past two seasons. He is the sixth known candidate the Raiders have sought permission to interview to replace Hue Jackson.

Well as much as I'd love to see my Ravens win a second one, as long as a DEFENSE wins the Super Bowl I'll be happy. I'm tired of these games that go over 75 points (combined) because everyone throws it 40+ times to 5+ different receivers. Maybe it's just the way I was raised, but a solid defensive battle is way more exciting than a shootout (or more often) offensive beatdown.

Redskins wins with the Qb's they had are far more impressive . And it was at a time you couldn't go pick up Drew Brees in an off season.

Because he gets to watch film, get treated like a god, and I think he nets near what he'd make as a coach, with zero fans freaking out at a lose, hours studying for a game, player issues, coaches issues, owner issues, exc. I like the first part far more than the second

Normally I think it's a bad idea to call out teammates publicly. But I'm glad Reed said what everyone is already thinking. In some ways Flacco is more of a liability than Dilfer was. At least Dilfer didn't force throws and turn the ball over like Flacco does.

Flacco is a poor man's Favre really and that's not a good thing. Still think the Giants will expose Smith this week, especially if they can shut down Gore like the Saints did.

A-FRAKKIN-Men!!!!!!

90% of our offense struggling is Flacco (and to an extent Cam Cameron calling way too many pass plays) not doing his job. Make the throws you needs to, the 10 and 20 yarders, maybe one or two deep to Torrey Smith/Lee Evans. But most of the time, hand it off to Ray Rice/Ricky Williams/ Vonta Leach.

He holds the ball all damn day and then always gets sacked. I mean compared to other QB's getting sacked as much he has a much better O-line, and more than half of them can be attributed to not getting rid of the ball. Someone just needs to tell him, "throw it to Harbaugh on the sidelines rather than take the sack".

Tim Tebow, the newly proclaimed starter for Denver's 2012 training camp, is tougher than you all think. The Broncos quarterback played the second half against the Patriots on Saturday after sustaining some pretty severe injuries in Denver's 45-10 loss.

Broncos spokesman Patrick Smyth didn't detail the exact nature of Tebow's injuries, but did confirm an earlier report from ESPN that Tebow was in considerable pain when he finished Saturday night's game.

Tebow reportedly tore some rib cartilage and bruised his lung but continued to play. this resulted in a a build-up of fluid on his chest (during the game and afterwards).

After Tebow had struggled to sleep on Saturday and Sunday night, he reportedly underwent an MRI on Monday.

The injury occurred when Vince Wilfork and Rob Ninkovich hit Tebow; backup Brady Quinn began to warm up on the sideline following the injury, but Tebow stayed in.

It really shouldn't be a surprise that Tebow eventually suffered an injury: he's one of two NFL players to attempt at least 100 rushes and take at least 30 sacks in the 2011 season (Cam Newton's the other). Tebow also ranked 40th in the NFL in rushing attempts.

These are the sort of things that expose the body to viscous shots from defenders. The irony is that Tebow reportedly suffered the injury after throwing a pass.

Tebow would reportedly be almost doubtful -- and certainly questionable -- to play this Sunday if the Broncos had advanced to the AFC Championship Game. As it is, Tebow is expected to make a full recovery and the injuries are not expected to interfere with his offseason training program.
Talk about one tough customer!

Actor Rob Lowe tweeted today that Peyton Manning is going to retire. His tweets were:

Quote:
#Colts fans, let's hope my info is wrong. Don't like being wrong, but this time... I'm hoping #NFL #Manning
57 minutes ago

@richeisen My people are saying Manning will retire today. What do you hear? #NFL
1 hour ago

Hearing my fave, #18 Peyton Manning will not return to #NFL. Wow. #Colts
1 hour ago
Lowe is a Colts fan and friend of Colts owner Jim Irsay so it is possible he got his information from someone inside the Colts organization, or he could be trying to get his name in the news to promote his Lifetime movie.
