Manning may be cleared by doctors, but Colts owner Jim Irsay made it clear last night at 1:00 AM Central time on Twitter that he hadn't been cleared by the Colts:

Peyton has not passed our physical nor has he been cleared to play for The Indianapolis Colts. Team statement coming on Friday.

At this point it is clear that the Colts have no intention of keeping Manning regardless of whether he's healthy or not. Numerous reports have said they decided weeks ago that they would cut Manning, and their actions and words certainly seem to be confirming that. There are rumors that the NFL has told the Colts they can't cut Manning this week because they want the Super Bowl to be the big story of the week, but it wouldn't shock me if the release happened next week.

it'll be interesting to see what Manning does if he hangs it up or tries to continue like Favre and Montana.

on a side note, i'm rocking my Super Bowl XLV shirt today.

I wonder how pissed Eli is that everybody is talking about Peyton this week instead of him. I hope Eli gets his second ring, and Peyton retires with one.

Manning has never talked about retirement and if the doctors say he's completely healthy I see him continuing his career. I know a lot of people have pointed to Washington as a possible landing spot for him because they'd likely offer the most money but if I were him I would go to a team with a realistic chance at a ring and as much as I hate to say it that team would be the Jets. They have a very good offensive line, a decent receiving corp, a serviceable running game, and a very good defense, all they are lacking is a QB.

Roger Goodell announced today that there will be 15 Thursday night games next season, with NBC carrying Thursday night games during week 1 and Thanksgiving night and the NFL Network airing the remaining 13 weeks. There will be no Thursday night games in weeks 16 or 17. He also announced that each team will be guaranteed a prime time game next season.

Aside from the Thanksgiving Day games (tradition) these are absolutely worthless. All Thursday night games do is screw with training and scheduling because sometimes you have 4 days off and sometimes 10.

Forcing people to get the NFL network to watch them is just another slap in the face. That is one of the most overpriced channels available. If it weren't for bars I don't know a single person who would be able to watch those games.

I love the NFL Network but I can understand the complaints from those who do not have it.

In regards to Goodell saying that every team would be on at least 1 prime time game, I do no think I like that idea. Some teams are just not good and would likely make for a bad game, unless you match them against another equally bad team. Then who would really want to watch that, except fans of those 2 teams?

The thing is with the way the NFL changes each year it's impossible to know who will be bad and which teams will be surprisingly good. Last year 5 teams didn't have any prime time games: Tennessee, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Arizona, and Carolina. Each of those teams had decent seasons, with Cincy making the playoffs, Tennessee still in playoff contention going into week 17, Arizona and Carolina greatly improving during the year, and Buffalo starting well before being ravaged by injuries. I'd rather have teams that are expected to be bad on Sunday night later in the year when they could be flexed rather than ignoring them completely.

They should allow flexing primetime games earlier in the year.

They dont want to flex games to different days so thursday & monday wont have that option.

Moving a game from 1:00 to 8:30 on a sunday is 1 thing but actually moving days they will never go for cause it screws up peoples plans too much.

But they did mention maybe moving SNF flex weeks earlier than week 10.

New offensive coordinator Greg Knapp is expected to install a zone-blocking scheme in Oakland.
Darren McFadden never flourished under former coach Tom Cable's zone-blocking scheme, only emerging once Hue Jackson molded the offense to his strengths. ESPN's John Clayton suggests the Raiders will have to decide whether to re-sign free agent Michael Bush or trade McFadden this offseason. Knapp has been a decidedly run-heavy play-caller, though it's odd that the Raiders are now installing an offense that won't cater to the skills of its most dynamic player. Beat writer Steve Corkran suggested last week that McFadden could be dangled as a trade chip for new GM Reggie McKenzie.

I agree, you do not want to change days but I was talking about SNF. If they do move flex up earlier than week 10 then yeah that would be nice.
