(No pun intended) The Packers go from Favre to Rodgers and the Colts go from Manning to Luck.
And I just looked up Peyton's rookie stats with Indy in 1998.

26 TD
28 Int
56.7% comp rate
71.2 QB Rating

Andrew Luck will destroy those numbers. More likely Luck's rookie numbers look more like Peyton's 2nd year numbers: 26TD/15Int 90.7 QB Rating.

U can thank Ron Wolf (Packers GM) for trading for Favre and the old grey squirrel himself (Ted Thompson) for picking Rodgers when he was available and having the nut sac to kick Favre to the curb after he “retired.”

Picking Rodgers totally made up for Thompson’s pick of Justin Harrell in the 1st round however many years ago!!

According to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Cortland Finnegan has been trying to recruit Vincent Jackson as a package deal in free agency, most likely to the Buccaneers.
Cole acknowledges the Bears are also a possibility for the dynamic duo. We suspect the Vikes could be in the mix as well. All three teams have not only salary cap space, but also a need at cornerback and receiver. Finnegan has been texting Jackson, though it's not clear just how much interest the latter has in tagging along. The package deal would take the Cowboys out of the picture for Finnegan.

Ya... look at the HOF QB's for those teams.

Indy: Unitas -> Manning -> Luck
Green Bay: Starr -> Favre -> Rodgers

I'd even add these teams.

Pittsburgh - Bradshaw and Roethlisberger who led the team to 6 Super Bowl wins.
Dallas - Staubach and Aikman for 5 Super Bowl wins.
San Francisco - Montana and Young for 5 Super Bowls

Then some teams go half a century never getting a franchise QB.

The guys in the front office can make all the difference!!

It’s not the head coach apparently b/c it was McCarthy that was 1 of the guys that selected Alex Smith # 1 w/the 49ers over Rodgers!!

Indy should never get credit for Unitas or the accomplishments that took place in baltimore. Especially if you read up on how the Irsay family screwed the city.

What was the issue with Rodgers? I believe he was an early consensus #1 overall but slid down to 20-something. If I rememeber right part of it was personality/attitude issues where he came off as something of a jerk to many GM's? Which is funny considering his teammates and coaches in GB all seem to love the guy. Maybe he just wasn't good in face to face interviews with people he doesn't know.

Funny thing is the Steelers drafted Unitas. He was born in Pittsburgh. Had Pittsburgh not had a monumentally stupid coach who thought Unitas "wasn't smart enough to be an NFL QB" Unitas would probably among the Steelers all-time greats instead of the Colts.

Quote:
After college, Unitas was drafted in the ninth round by the Pittsburgh Steelers of the NFL but was released before the season began as the odd man out among four quarterbacks trying to fill three spots. Steelers Head Coach Walt Kiesling had made up his mind about Unitas; he somehow thought him not smart enough to quarterback an NFL team.

Cause we pay $$$$$$$ ... And most of the guys we get are selfish enough to take it, I thought it might be the case with Peyton (that he just wanted money) since he was unwilling to re-structure his deal. But I give him kudos if he doesn't take Snyder's money. Maybe that will wake up the FO that you need to have a team if you really want high quality free agents.
Naw man playing his brother twice a year is not gonna cut it for no amount of money. Got Em!!

Wow, I didnt even think about that, all you really hear about is football, just shows NFL is king of all sports

Should get even crazier with free agency and the draft right around the corner....

Part of Rodgers' issue was he played for Jeff Tedford, and every Jeff Tedford quarterback hadn't lived up to their draft status. Tedford's quarterbacks prior to Rodgers were #6 pick Trent Dilfer, #1 pick David Carr, #3 picks Akili Smith and Joey Harrington, and #19 pick Kyle Boller. Of those QBs only Dilfer ever made a Pro Bowl and he didn't have any team success until he left Tampa for Baltimore. Rodgers also fell because their weren't a lot of teams that were looking to draft a quarterback early in his draft. Only 3 quarterbacks were taken in the first 2 rounds of his draft.

I'm down in Arizona right now and all the state is talking about is Peyton Manning. I was watching the Phoenix Fox morning show this morning and they just kept talking about what needed to be done to get Manning. I was listening to a local sports radio show and they thought it was nearly a done deal that Manning was coming to Arizona. They had coach Ken Wisenhunt's agent on the show yesterday and he said he'd be shocked if Manning didn't end up in Arizona, and they just kept going on and on about how good the team would be with Manning throwing to Fitzgerald and how Manning should want to come to Arizona because of how Kurt Warner did when he came and how advantageous it would be for Manning to play in a dome. What's funny is I was down here last year as well and they were so excited to get Kevin Kolb and thought he was going to be their quarterback of the future.

The media attention is getting out of hand nowadays. There were news choppers stalking Peyton's vehicle when he was in Miami. Looked like the O.J. chase.

I never got the whole Kolb craziness. The guy barely played with Philly and there was no indication he was ever a franchise QB like they paid him. Arizona does seem like a great situation for Peyton though.

It's funny to listen to the radio sports talk shows here and hear fans calling in and saying the Texans need to get Manning here. I think it is way too risky. I know Schaub is not the greatest QB but he is good enough for us and we are legitimate Super Bowl Contenders. To let Schaub go and hope that Manning is able to play would be too risky for my liking.

All the time. Favre, Lebron, various others. This isn't anything new. A big name player getting released or leaving via free agency happens quite a bit because of the media blowing up, sometime overblowing these situations.
