Not with your own cap issues... Member we've still got our 1st round picks to sign, thank god they aren't expanding like they were in prior drafts.

I just think it's odd that we go from supposedly being about $25 million under the cap after some restructuring and cap moves are made to having issues, would imagine we'll find out what's up soon enough. If we really have issues, Laurent Robinson may be the only big signing we get this year.

While we both may have broken some rules, its funny it all comes down on our teams now.

Our team got docked $10 million, yours got docked $36 million so pretty much your team just lost 1/4 of their salary cap space. I'm hearing they can spread the damage out but I would just take it all in one year and hope for the best. No wonder they made such a big draft move, they probably knew they wouldn't be able to do anything big in free agency.

The Denver Post reports the Texans "recently inquired" on free agent Peyton Manning, and lists the 49ers as one of six teams "considered alive" in the race for Manning's services.
The report comes on the heels of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel's claim that Manning would visit the Texans, though it makes no mention of a potential visit. It's also the first time the 49ers have been credibly linked to Manning. As of Tuesday afternoon, San Francisco was still believed to be on the verge re-signing free agent Alex Smith. The Broncos, Dolphins, Cardinals and Titans are the other four teams "considered alive" in the hunt. Rehabbing from Lisfranc surgery, current Texans starter Matt Schaub is due $7.15 million in 2012. Rumors have suggested Houston is Manning's preferred landing spot.

Texans informed RT Eric Winston of his release.
The shocking move clears $5.5 million in base salary. Winston hasn't missed a start since his 2006 rookie season, and has been a key cog in the Texans' highly productive zone-blocking scheme. Despite the release, Winston won't have trouble exceeding what the Texans were going to pay him on an incredibly thin offensive tackle market. Only 28 years old, Winston should appeal to other zone-blocking clubs like the Redskins. Pro Football Focus graded Winston as a top-six right tackle last season. He was 11th overall in PFF's rankings.

Very surprising. Hopefully there will be some more surprising releases to make this free agency even more interesting.

Raiders released TE Kevin Boss.
It's a surprising move barely six months after the Raiders handed Boss a four-year, $16 million deal, but hardly unwarranted after he caught just 28 passes for 368 yards his first season in Oakland. New GM Reggie McKenzie appears committed to cutting away the waste of the final days of the Al Davis era. A natural landing spot for Boss would be his former Giants, who are in danger of being without both Jake Ballard and Travis Beckum next season as they recover from torn ACLs.

I don't doubt that the league told the teams not to dump salary during the uncapped season.

My question is...do they have the authority to do so? What gives them said authority?

Does this mean good old Roger can just arbitrarily order teams not to do pretty much anything he wants to? Can he declare that the 3rd Sunday of the season is no-socks Sunday and charge teams who fail to comply?

An unwritten rule turning into a 36 million dollar penalty is flat wrong, I don't care if he "told them" ahead of time. Put it in a contract or get the hell out.

I wouldn't be surprised if Snyder or Jones look into some kind of legal action.

I'm a Texan fan but not really a fan of Eric Winston, even though everybody seems to think he is so good. Hopefully this is a sign that the Texans have something in the works that requires that extra cap room. We need to sign our C Chris Myers or maybe they are working out some plan to try to keep Mario.

A "number of NFL sources" tell CSN Chicago that the Bears are considered around the league to be the favorites for free agent Mario Williams as Tuesday's 4PM ET signing period approaches.
The Bears are all systems go in free agency, and Williams would form the NFL's most dominant bookend duo in the league across from Julius Peppers. Ultimately, Chicago may choose between Williams and free agent wideout Vincent Jackson. It sounds like Williams is coach Lovie Smith's priority, and new GM Phil Emery's old team in Kansas City rarely spent big on wide receivers. While the Chargers, Patriots, and Titans have been linked to Williams as well, the Bears may be positioned best to land him. We should find out by midweek.

while williams and peppers is a sh!t brick inducing thought as a packer fan.....their offense still won't be able to do anything if they can't fix that line and add @ least 1 weapon besides forte!!!
