The Raiders are getting rid of yet another of their terrible defensive contracts and releasing linebacker Kamerion Wimbley. Wimbley is a good player and $6.5 million of his $11 million 2012 salary is guaranteed but the Raiders pretty much have to cut him because the terrible contract they gave him guarantees his 2013 salary ($11 million) and $2 million of his 2014 salary if he's still on the Raiders tomorrow. The Raiders tried to get Wimbley to renegotiate his deal but he apparently wasn't interested because there should be a big market for him.

I'd be more excited about this if he were a lot younger.

Another move in the right direction, I'm liking where our franchise is heading, almost have gotten rid of all of AL's terrible contracts, while i would have loved to keep him, but not at that price tag, he wont last very long on the open market

The Denver Post repots the Broncos are planning to offer free agent Peyton Manning a contract worth roughly $60 million over five seasons.
An "NFL source" also confirms Manning has narrowed his choices to Denver and Tennessee. The Broncos' offer would include $30 million guaranteed, "give or take." It's reportedly the same contract parameters the Titans are working off of.

2 things i think the broncos have over the titans:

- with peyton the broncos are the division favorite but even with peyton the titans arent the favorite....the texans still would be.

- with the broncos he stays out of the colts division & maybe isnt too thrilled about beating them twice at least this year anyway....not that that really burns a bridge but maybe he wants to keep a good image in indy by staying out of the divison & not having indy specifically root against him.

Quote:
They collectively chanted ‘We want Mario!’ at a Buffalo Sabres game Wednesday that he didn’t even attend. They tweeted a photo out into cyberspace of a pizza that spelled ‘Come Mario’ in pepperoni. Local businesses on Abbott Road, which runs past Ralph Wilson Stadium, had their electronic store signs with messages welcoming him to town. After just three days in Buffalo Mario Williams felt like he was at home.

“It’s a family atmosphere here,” said Williams of the impression Buffalo left on him. “I think the biggest thing is you go from a small city to a big city and then for this example, it almost feels like a big Richlands, (North Carolina) which is where I’m from. It feels like a big home atmosphere and I mean it was just like going back.”

The Bills passionate fan base may not have been the main reason Mario Williams signed on the dotted line late Thursday afternoon at One Bills Drive, becoming the biggest free agent money signing in team history, but they left enough of a positive impression on the premier pass rusher to prompt a tip of the hat from Bills GM Buddy Nix.

“I want to thank our fans,” Nix said prior to introducing Williams at Thursday’s press conference. “You drive up Abbott Road and you see all the signs that made Mario feel like he is wanted in Buffalo. Once we got him here and got him to visit, not the people that heard about Buffalo but the people that live here then you find out what a unique place this is. He is going to help it even get better.”

It’s hard to match the loyalty of Bills fans and at times their passion borders on rabid, but there’s a measure of respect Buffalo fans display at the same time that players appreciate.

“I think the number one thing was coming here and seeing them embrace me and definitely the comfort level of everybody that surrounded me when I got here,” said Williams “This is what people bleed, breathe and live, so I am really happy for the opportunity to be part of it. I had to duck and dodge a little bit because there were a lot of people out there and I did not want to get run over by anybody, but that is great. That’s what you want and you want a fan base like that. This great city definitely offers that.”

Williams did admit seeing a lot of the welcoming messages as well as some of the more declarative signage, like the one hung by a fan at the entrance of One Bills Drive on the parking lot number post that read simply, ‘Buffalo wants Mario.’

“I saw a lot of those,” said Williams. “As far as seeing my name in pizzas that was kind of crazy but it definitely got the message across.”

Williams was glad he took the time to see for himself just what Buffalo and its people were about as well as the Bills franchise.

“I heard so much stuff about this city and it’s not fair to the simple fact that there are great people here,” he said. “Caring and compassionate people that definitely have your back and I see that already. I just feel completely welcome and they look at me as a person and somebody that can come here and help out so that is what I want to be, the person to help out.”

Williams was also told by passerby fans and some of his new teammates about the atmosphere on game day. He’s looking forward to the experience. More importantly Williams has taken a liking to the city as much as he has his new team. Already appreciative of the support he’s received has only made Williams more determined to deliver come the regular season knowing his best contribution will be helping the Bills reach the postseason.

“I feel like this is a great opportunity for me, the team and for us to succeed and get better,” Williams said. “This city is looking for that and looking for the Bills to be where we need to be for the fans of this great city. I am ecstatic. I am excited and can’t wait for the opportunity to get out there and make things happen.”
We love you Super Mario!

Not sure how credible this is considering the source but I think there's a good chance. Top 10 all-time Super Bowl winning QB or Alex Smith, not a hard choice.

Wasn't he only due 28 with the Colts? And the rest was all incentive/ earned basis? So if he gets 30 he'd be making a 2 million dollar profit

I thought his colts base salary was another $7m so that would make $35m+.

IRVING, Texas – When the Dallas Cowboys drafted Tyron Smith, David Arkin and Bill Nagy last year, in addition to adding Kevin Kowalski as an undrafted free agent, it appeared as if they were preparing for a youth movement on the offensive line.

After all, they cut Andre Gurode, Leonard Davis and Marc Colombo, too.

But with the team’s additions of Mackenzy Bernadeau and Nate Livings over the last three days that not no longer appears to be the case. It’s not that the Cowboys got old -- though Livings turns 30 this month -- but they definitely got new.

Bernadeau and Livings received starter’s money from the Cowboys.

They also add size to the interior of the line, which was a problem last year.

Nagy started the year and checked in at 303 pounds. Costa is listed at 314 pounds. Kosier is listed at 305 pounds. Montrae Holland and Derrick Dockery, who replaced Nagy after the rookie suffered a broken ankle, checked in at 340 and 325 pounds, respectively.

Too many times the pressure up the middle bothered Tony Romo.

Carolina listed the 6-foot-4 Bernadeau at 308 pounds. Cincinnati listed the 6-foot-5 Livings as 332 pounds.

At first guess the line in 2012 projects to be, from left to right: Tyron Smith, Nate Livings, Phil Costa/Kyle Kosier, Mackenzy Bernadeau and Doug Free.

Now that’s quite an overhaul in a short amount of time.
Source - http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/cowbo...medium=twitter
Hopefully unlike last year's overhaul this one will have much better results, still think we need to go OL in at least one of the first three rounds in the draft.

$7.4M. I couldn't find anything about any incentives written into his contract. He had three bonuses, a 20M signing bonus, a 3M 2011 Roster Bonus, and a 28M option Bonus in 2012.

Here were his base salary and cap hit numbers for the deal:

Quote:
2011: $3.4 million base, $16 million against the salary cap.

2012: $7.4 million base, $17 million against the cap.

2013: $8.4 million base, $18 million against the cap.

2014: $9.4 million base, $19 million against the cap.

2015: $10.4 million base, $20 million against the cap.

I'm wondering if the 49ers are just showing interest in Manning to try and get Alex Smith to sign his contract. They offered him 3 years but he's been holding out for 5 years. If the 49ers end up with Manning Alex Smith will have made one of the worst decisions in NFL history because no team is going to pay him as much as the 49ers and wherever he ends up will not be as good as the 49ers.

Raiders released OLB Kamerion Wimbley.
Wimbley was one of the league's top pass rushers last season, but the Raiders simply couldn't afford his $11 million 2012 salary. That's despite the fact that $6.5 million of it was fully guaranteed. Wimbley is now easily the market's top available defender, and should draw another huge contract after re-upping with the Raiders for five years and $48 million last August.

This stuff is getting out of hand. I was eating out for lunch today and almost all the TV's were not on NCAA basketball tourney games but rather coverage of helicopters chasing down Peyton Manning's motorcade. I thought I was watching the O.J. car chase again. Amazing how with all the other sports in full swing the NFL still completely dominated television.

It wasn't even Peyton Manning they were following, rather a van of Broncos personnel going to visit Peyton Manning. One of the guys on ESPN did make a joke that was pretty fun as he went into analysis mode on the van's ability to yield into traffic.
