Once again Goodell making an excellent decision and setting the example. The year long suspension for Payton seems perhaps a bit steep, but Williams is lucky he doesn't have a lifetime ban. He's a crook.

First Media report on Tebow trade

Quote:
Jets acquire Tim Tebow from Broncos for fourth-round pick
Posted by Michael David Smith on March 21, 2012, 12:51 PM EDT
Tim Tebow AP

Tim Tebow is a New York Jet.

One day after the Denver Broncos signed Peyton Manning as their new starting quarterback, Denver has traded Tebow to the Jets for a fourth-round draft pick.

The trade ends a tenure in Denver with Tebow that was one of the most astonishing two-year stints that any player has ever had with any team. Tebow was a surprise first-round draft pick in the 2010 NFL draft, then surprisingly became the starter in the fifth game of the 2011 season, and then shockingly led the Broncos to a series of improbable comeback victories and became arguably the NFL’s biggest star.

And now Tebow is with the Jets, one of the many teams he beat with a great fourth-quarter comeback last season. It’s not clear whether the Jets plan to allow Tebow to compete for the starting job, or whether they expect him to be a wildcat quarterback, but the player who’s as famous as any in the league is now in the Big Apple.

Mark Sanchez, Tebowmania is in your rear-view mirror.

Several people are upset that Tebow is going to New York. I heard whispers and word "Jets" maybe 10 times the past minute.

Anyway, I remember when Greg Williams was a DC in Jacksonville. A very physical minded coach.

Hes suspended Indefinitely, meaning hes done for at least 1 year, could potentially be a lifetime ban.

I don't know how I feel about Tebow going to the Jets. If Sanchez continues to struggle, the fans will start going crazy for Tebow. I'd love to see that locker room implode even more. But my fear is that Tebow becomes a very successful hybrid WR/TE/H-B.

I still don't think Williams ever coaches in the NFL again. He's likely done. Goodell has a reputation of tough discipline but I didn't think he had the stones to ban a top-tier head coach for a full year AND ban the team's GM for half the season. These suspensions are far more devestating for the Saints than any loss of draft picks would have been.

As cool as it would have been to see him go to the jags, he'd have never succeeded. Les Carpenter said it on my local show yesterday, good team where he can learn with an established coach and he could really step his game up in a few years. I honestly don't even like the Jets trade and while its still a better place Shoti hasn't exactly done wonders with Sanchize.

So who's going to be Denver backup QB?

I don't think Manning is going to survive for the full season.....

My guess would be a rag tag team of the remaining assistants and a couple guys that will be brought in to help until Sean Payton returns.

They lost draft picks, too, but I agree the suspensions are far more damaging.

Tell me about it. I doubt they want to promote an assistant who may also be scandel tarnished. Surely they'll bring in a fresh face.

I loooove that goddell dropped the hammer on the saints.

There’s no way they would’ve learned anything by losing some draft picks or anything like that.

This is def. the way to send a message to the rest of the league.

If Tebow came back home to Jacksonville. He would put the Jaguars back on the map during the entire season win or lose. Sure it will fill up the stands in the stadium, but it's ultimately about winning games so it doesn't bother me much.

During a report, they said Kahn stopped and ended all negotiations late Tuesday with Denver. I have a feeling Kahn pursued just so that Gator/Jaguars fans would of "thought" the Jaguars at least tried to get hometown hero Tebow. I think Kahn sat down with GM Gene Smith and discussed a lot of things that would go wrong if we revamp and reconstruct our offense to accommodate Tebow. Just my speculation.

Oh ya, looks like they lose two 2nd round picks. Didn't catch that at first. Another big loss, though not as harmful as the suspensions.

Tebow coming to the Jags would've been a huge win for Jax. They could still play Gabbert, have Tebow on the team at very little expense, and make everyone happy.

They dropped the ball on this one big time.

(I'm just glad the Packers didn't get the guy).

And Tebow wouldn't get booed in Jacksonville. For probably the first time in Tebow's life he'll be in a situation where the home fans will have no trouble booing him loudly. If he thinks he'll be able to talk into the Meadowlands and become a beloved figure like he was at Florida and Denver he's sadly mistaken. Hope he's ready.
