Appearing on PFT Live Wednesday, Tom Curran of Comcast SportsNet New England predicted that Chad Ochocinco will not make the Patriots' 2012 roster despite his recent pay reduction.
"I'm just mystified as to what the upside is," said Curran, noting that there are at least four receivers better than Ochocinco on New England's roster. "I can't imagine him making it." While Ocho recently dropped his salary from $3 million to $1 million, he remains without assurances. Barring injuries to receivers ahead of him, we wouldn't expect Ochocinco to make the Patriots, either.

Just out of curiosity, why don't they like each other? Hopefully ESPN picks Andrews, she's much easier on the eyes than Beadle. (Although to be fair, they both know their stuff, I just never cared much for SportsNation.)

Beadle has said in the past that she doesn't like Andrews and said in the ESPN book that she watched the Erin Andrews peephole video and implied that Andrews exploited the controversy to get ahead in her career. There is also supposedly a lot of friction in Bristol between the two.

It wouldn't be surprising if EA chose to leave ESPN because it's long been rumored that she would prefer to work on an entertainment show like Access Hollywood or Entertainment Tonight. It's also possible she could stay with ESPN but spend more times doing non-sports stories on ABC shows like Good Morning America. Beadle wants to stay but wants assurances Colin Cowherd stays on Sportsnation when his contract is up and from the sounds of it he doesn't really want to do TV work and would rather just do his radio show. It's not out of the question that they could both stay but it wouldn't be a shock if they both left either.

In 2008 Michael David Barrett, 46, filmed Andrews in her hotel room through peepholes at the Nashville Marriott at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee and the Radisson Airport Hotel in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. On July 16, 2009, one of these videos, in which Andrews appeared nude, was posted online and quickly went viral.[6][18] Barrett was arrested on October 2, 2009, by the FBI for interstate stalking, and pled guilty to the charges on December 15, 2009.[19][20] On March 15, 2010, Barrett was sentenced to 30 months in prison, three years of probation, $5,000 in fines, and $7,366 in restitution.[21] He currently is serving his sentence at the Seattle Community Corrections. He is scheduled to be released on July 3, 2012.[22]

Andrews has sued Barrett, Marriott International, Radisson Hotels, and five other entities for negligence and invasion of privacy in connection with the secret videotaping.[23] In 2011 Andrews worked with U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar to enact a new federal anti-stalking law.[24]

Bengals re-signed SLB Manny Lawson.
Lawson will retain his starting job on the strong side, with Thomas Howard at weak-side 'backer and Rey Maualuga in the middle. Look for the Bengals to dangle Keith Rivers for trade, if they can. Lawson, 28 before the season, started every game last season but was often spelled by Brandon Johnson. Lawson will likely become more of a full-time player in his second year with Mike Zimmer.

Yeah I wanted him too, bet he would've flourished under Rob Ryan, will probably have to settle for a linebacker they take in the draft.

I agree with others that the media is just looking for a story and there's no way Luck doesn't go #1. Rich Eisen actually told Andrew Luck when he was interviewing him at the Super Bowl that this was going to happen. He said RGIII would run amazing at the combine and both would have great pro days and suddenly the media would make it seem like RGIII could surpass Luck, but in the end Luck will be the #1 pick. Irsay just had 13 amazing years with Peyton Manning and now has the chance to get the best pocket passer since Manning, I just can't see him passing that up.

As certain as I am that Luck will go first, you really shouldn't worry either way Six. The Skins already traded up to #2, so they are guaranteed to get Luck or RG3 if they want one of them. Both should have great careers in the NFL as long as they are supported with a good team.

Sean Payton gets suspended on Sunday and the team still hasn't named an interim coach. If they want to hire Parcells they have to interview a minority to satisfy the Rooney Rule and it may be tough to find a minority willing to interview if they know Parcells is going to take the job. If they hire an assistant for the job they don't have to comply with the Rooney Rule.

I don't know how much it matters to Parcells, but if he coaches he won't be eligible for the Hall of Fame for another 5 years. Last year was his first year on the ballot and he didn't make it but a lot of people think he's got a good chance next year. I've heard there's a possibility that Parcells would take a consultant role in which he would frequently (and illegally) discuss strategy and personnel with Sean Payton and help GM Mickey Loomis with personnel decisions since Loomis is not as involved in football decisions as many GMs, and then during Loomis' suspension Parcells could become the interim GM. In this scenario Parcells Hall of Fame eligibility wouldn't be reset.

This is the most ridiculous rule around. I understand minorities getting consideration for jobs, but a lot of times it's just a wasted interview. Like the year plus long "interview" of Mike Singletary.

What's more crazy is that they can hire Parcells. It should be that the OC or someone that's already a coach for the saints has to take over.

Bob Kravitz of the Indianapolis Star was on the Dan Patrick Show this morning and said the only way the Colts don't draft Andrew Luck is if his right arm falls off. He said the Colts made the decision to draft Luck when they were 0-13 and nothing RGIII does could change that. He said Irsay is just toying with the fans by making it seem like he could pass on Luck.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen said on SportsCenter Thursday that his "gut feeling" is Bill Parcells will be the Saints' head coach in 2012.
"My gut feeling is, he'll do it," said Mort. "... That he'll do it if they reach out to him." Parcells is incredibly close to Sean Payton, and may feel almost obligated to take the position if offered. In turn, Payton would be giving Parcells a chance at a long-elusive third Super Bowl ring. Parcells last won the Super Bowl in 1990. He didn't stop coaching until 2006.

I agree with whoever said he'll only be a consultant, can't see him coming back to coaching after a second long absence.

More about Tannehill, this time from Charley Casserly.

Raw skills, upside legitimize Ryan Tannehill's top-10 value

Quote:
He has a strong arm and can plant his back foot to throw the ball with velocity into tight spots. He throws a nice deep out, which is a true test of arm strength. He also displays good movement, both in and out of the pocket; he can slide to avoid the rush and also has the ability to make plays in the open field. He has experience in a pro-style offense. I have seen him read through his progressions and go to secondary receivers. The accuracy is above average, but there's certainly room for improvement.

Sometimes it appears that Tannehill and his receivers are not on the same page in their routes, which feeds into his inaccuracy. He tends to pat the ball and hesitate before he releases it, causing him to be late on some throws. He also gets some balls tipped, possibly because of this slight defect. And at the end of the day, you just don't see as many of those "wow" throws as you'd like to see from a top-10 prospect. But, I believe there's plenty of upside because of his relative inexperience at the position compared to the other QB prospects. After all, Tannehill spent his first two years at Texas A&M as a receiver. (And a pretty darn good one, I might add.)

In fact, I like Tannehill more than some first-round quarterbacks taken during this period. I think he displays better decision-making and accuracy than Josh Freeman, more experience at a high level than Joe Flacco, a stronger arm than Christian Ponder and more precision than Jake Locker.

Bob Grotz of the Delco Times believes Eagles CB Asante Samuel is more likely to be released than traded.
It's about money, not talent. The Titans, through beat writer Jim Wyatt, have essentially laughed at the Eagles' reported third-round asking price for a 31-year-old cornerback with salaries of $9.9 million and $11.4 million the next two years. Even if Samuel restructures his deal, the cap hit will be divided over the next two years while the base salary is converted to a substantial signing bonus.
