soon enough this league is gonna dissolve into the point of where if you're a QB and you've been in the league longer than 8 years, you're old news and will be replaced by a rookie QB, ANY rookie QB, because they're a rookie

Collie with another concussion... I know it's harsh but, he should re-evaluate his football career. He had 2-3 concussions just last year.

Michael Strahan is reportedly becoming the permanent co-host of Live with Kelly Ripa. He is expected to keep his gig on Fox's Sunday pregame show as well.

But hey, if Tannehill is good enough, why wait?

I think that's a bit of a stretch.

Suspended sentence sounds mild for what he did, but it does sound like this guy needed help more than just jail time.

Corwin Brown sentenced

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Former NFL player and assistant coach Corwin Brown received a suspended four-year sentence Tuesday for striking his wife and holding her hostage during a police standoff, after his wife said sending him to prison would do more harm to him and their family.

Brown, 42, pleaded guilty but mentally ill in June to felony confinement and domestic battery as part of a plea agreement. He gave a tearful apology Tuesday to the court, the lawyers involved and his family. His wife, Melissa, handed him a tissue and rubbed his arm as he spoke.

"I have a long way to go," Brown said. "It's disappointing I put you guys in this situation."

St. Joseph County Judge Jane Woodward Miller sentenced Brown to consecutive two-year prison sentences, which she suspended and placed him on probation. Neither Brown nor his wife commented after the sentencing.

Melissa Brown told Miler during the hearing that Brown is "getting better."

"We're starting to rebuild our life with our children," she said.

Brown, the defensive coordinator at Notre Dame from 2007 to 2009, was taken from his home Aug. 12, 2011, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a seven-hour standoff with police in Granger, just northeast of South Bend.

Relatives said previously that they believed Brown sustained brain trauma while playing as a defensive back at college in Michigan and during his eight seasons in the NFL with the Patriots, Jets and Lions. But at the sentencing Tuesday, his attorney, William Stanley, told Miller that should not be taken into consideration.

"I didn't think it was an issue. I think things get lost," Stanley said later, outside court. "I think the real issue before the court today was what was best for the community, what was best for the family and what was best for him. I didn't want to cloud it with any discussions about the perils of playing football and concussions or anything else we read about. If that's an issue, it will come up later on."

Melissa Brown said her husband's mental health had been deteriorating for a while. Chief Deputy Prosecutor Ken Cotter said he normally would seek prison time in such cases, but he agreed to no prison time after talking with Melissa Brown and Brown's doctors.

At one point, when Cotter referred to Melissa Brown as the victim, she said: "I don't consider myself the victim."

Brown moved back in with his wife and three children in their Granger home about a month ago, Stanley said.

"Being back with his family is just as important as the counseling and the medication," he said.

Miller ordered Brown to continue counseling and take any medications prescribed as part of his probation. She also told him he couldn't own a gun and ordered him to pay more than $8,000 in restitution to two police departments that responded to the standoff.

Brown most recently coached defensive backs for the New England Patriots in 2010.

Somewhat not surprised that MJD is now on the trading block

Maurice Jones-Drew open to trade from Jacksonville Jaguars

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap100...headline_stack

Quote:

The comments by Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan on Tuesday sparked a visceral reaction from a disgruntled Maurice Jones-Drew. The running back even told one person close to him that if the owner really isn't concerned with him, then he should trade him to someone who will be.

If Jones-Drew is expendable, his camp believes that gives them permission to seek a trade. But the running back's trade value isn't clear, because the new team would have to offer him a new contract, as well.

Earlier today, Khan reiterated once again that he won't back down to Jones-Drew's desires for a new contract with two years remaining on his current deal. "Train is leaving the station," Khan said, "Run, get on it." Earlier in the week, Khan told Yahoo! Sports about his absence, "Believe me, it's not a great concern."

That hasn't sat well with Jones-Drew or his camp. Jones-Drew has held out all offseason, hoping to negotiate a third contract. He is owed roughly $4.45 million this year and $4.95 million next year.

Khan's comments seem to violate what Jones' camp calls unwritten rules of keeping negotiations in-house. Interestingly, Jones-Drew and general manager Gene Smith speak regularly, and they did so Monday night. But publicly, Khan has sent another message.

Jones-Drew has saved his money, a source close to him said, meaning he doesn't have to show up for financial reasons. In fact, DirecTV will come out with a feature tomorrow that has Jones-Drew Skyping with fantasy football fans. He is being compensated for it.

Jones-Drew gained 1,606 yards last year with a career-high eight touchdowns. This preseason, though, Rashad Jennings has impressed as his replacement.

A source said the two sides are no closer to Jones-Drew showing up to Jaguars camp.

Ryan Tannehill breaks new ground in being named Miami Dolphins’ starting quarterback

Quote:
Ryan Tannehill broke new ground for the Dolphins in April’s NFL Draft when he became the team’s first first-round quarterback since Dan Marino in 1983.

Monday, Tannehill again established a new organizational benchmark as coach Joe Philbin officially announced him as the winner of the Dolphins’ quarterback battle. When Tannehill takes the field Sept. 9 at Houston, he will be the first rookie to start on opening day since the Franchise’s inception in 1966. Not even Marino started right away – he didn’t get his first start until Week 6 of the 1983 season.

Tannehill, who wears No. 17, will be the Dolphins’ 17th starting quarterback since Marino retired after the 1999 season. In a further coincidence, it has been 13 seasons since Marino, who wore No. 13, retired.
Quote:
Philbin said Tannehill was helped by the fact that the Dolphins have the same coaches and playbook that Tannehill used at Texas A&M. Dolphins offensive coordinator Mike Sherman was Tannehill’s head coach, and assistant quarterbacks coach Zac Taylor was also on the Aggies’ staff.

“You have to feel like that maybe helped him a bit,” Philbin said.”It’s very unusual for the situation to unfold for a rookie quarterback like it did for Ryan.”

Just give the guy a contract that reflects his value already. This plus finding out the team will be playing one "home" game every year for the next 4 years in London makes this a very frustrating day for the Jags.

Give it up NFL, the British don't give a damn about American football and never will. Trying to get them to care about American football is them like trying to get us to care about soccer.

Tomorrow could be interesting to see which teams would be interested. I wonder what the Jags would get for him. A 1st Round pick and what?

Jennings is a decent RB, but he's coming off a year long injury but when he did back MJD, he did fairly well. Jags so far are doing very good on offense and I want MJD to be there to see how better they can become.

I just don't get Jacksonville not working with him on a new deal. Trent Richardson was the highest RB taken in this past draft and his rookie deal is 4 years $20.4 mill. He hasn't played a single NFL game. Jones-Drew is the NFL's leading rusher and makes 5 years at $31 mill. His contract just doesn't come close to his value on the field. And with the Jags well under the salary cap they can afford it.

Here's the deal with the Jags. Even though the owner has major cash they don't have the fans. It's gotten to point where they're now taking away 1 home game to play in London for the next 4 years. And as good as MJD is the owner refuses to hear his demands cause he feels he needs to play out his current contract. I could understand MJDs situation. He just turned 27 and by the time he plays out his contract he'll be 29 meaning near the end of the line in RB terms. And with what current RB's are getting this year I don't blame him. As for Trent Richardson's deal....thats how the draft works you take a chance on an unproven player. Either your gettin' the next AP or a dud in Curtis Enis. At least the money is lower than what it was a couple years back. If they didn't change rookie scale he'll probably be looking at $30 million guaranteed.

I don't even think the Jags could get a first round pick for MJD. Teams just don't value the running back position anymore, and while MJD was very good last year teams aren't going to give up much near the end of training camp for a 27-year-old undersized running back with a lot of wear on his legs and who wants a big new contract. I don't see any realistic chance of MJD getting traded.

I also don't think the Jags would consider trading MJD unless they got a massive offer. This is the Jags first holdout with Khan as the owner and he's not going to want to set a precedent that he will cave to players that hold out. I think they should have given MJD a new deal in the offseason but I think it's gotten to the point that the Jags aren't going to cave and force MJD to play this season under his current deal.

Right, and Khan isn't going to fold and let other players on that team see that if they can hold out like MJD, they can also reconstruct their contract too.

Before preseason started I to think the Jags would give MJD a new contract eventually. Now that we played 2 Preseason games. The organization is doing okay without MJD. That's if Jennings stays healthy and Gabbert continues to grow. Coach Mularkey stated already that we're going to pass more since that's how NFL teams succeed. Just from thinking.... Arian Foster, and Chris Johnson, and Adrian Peterson. They led the League in rushing before. I don't think any of those teams made the Playoffs that year.

The photo below is featured at Brother Jimmy's BBQ in Miami, a restaurant co-owned by Jonathon Vilma, Denver Broncos linebacker D.J. Williams and Carolina Panthers linebacker Jon Beason. It's understandable why the players don't like Goodell, with Vilma suspended for the season and Williams suspended 6 games.

It isn't as dire as people make it out to be. Jags had 62.3k fans per game in 2011. That was the highest of the 3 Florida teams with Miami at 60.9k and Tampa Bay at 56.6k. Attendance and fan support problems are not a Jacksonville problem, they're a Florida problem. And this extends to all sports. Our MLB teams don't even draw well when they're good. The Magic and Heat also have those problems unless the teams are winning big.

Look at the 2 super bowl teams.
The giants were dead last in rushing & the pats leading rusher who didnt even have 700 yards they let walk.

Give me 3 decent rushers instead of 1 great who just ends up getting hurt anyways.
Defense & rushing are overrated -- its a QB league.

Yes, and that works if you have a great QB. Maybe Gabbert will become top-tier, but we've seen nothing thus far to indicate that.

Not yet, but his great preseason play gives some of us in town hope.

Eager to see our current offense against most of the starting Ravens D tomorrow night.
