I'm guessing the cliff-side matte painting was the original analog one. Notice that? Spielberg may view the matte painting as a "change", but the reflection as a "fix". |

![]() Anyone else seen the film in IMAX that wants to comment? I don't see that there needs to be an argument. I'm just wondering what I was seeing. |

Anyway, I didn’t necessarily mean it would deprecate it. Honestly, at this point, the only thing I’m clear about regarding the frame rate and shutter angle combination issue is how unclear the situation is…..at least based on theory and never having personally seen 48fps shot with a 270 degree shutter angle (I’ve only seen that frame rate captured at 180 degree, and in 2D). As to the math, think of it this way. Normally, one shoots at a frame rate of 24fps with a 180 degree shutter. So, in order to get the same motion characteristics shooting at P.J.’s desired frame rate of 48fps, one would have to shoot with a 360 degree shutter. But, the stickler being that this refers to the motion blur on or in each individual frame. Next one must consider the fact that you are also shooting with a higher frame rate (48 fps) so, there is not as much of a gap between frames and therefore, to use P.J.’s words, it will look more “velvety” or fluid-like….or less judder-ish, especially on pans. So, perhaps their tests showed that shooting with a 360 degree shutter at 48fps, resulted in imagery which was too “velvety” or even smeary, thusly they went with a 270 degree shutter angle which looked better. So, you see, it all does get very confusing - What I am clear about though, is that the limiting factor which will decide the adoption and adoption rate of HFR (high frame rate) 3D, will not be the filmmaker, the movie-goer, or the theater owners upgrading their equipment but, the post facilities who will have the handle the extra data. |

Hey, P, got any particular feelings about the "pro" glasses (from likes of Oakley, Gunnar, etc.) for REALD? I know it's completely stupid to buy $100+ glasses for use only intermittently at theatres, but I've blown far more money on incremental increases on HT, and I'm really getting bummed out by the disposable crap ones. Pre-SW:TPM, thought of picking up a pair.
Happy to have you PM me to say you've got a line on a cheap pair ![]() |
