^ Especially, paragraph 2 ^, since, as by your signature, you’re a home theater guy.

Anyway, if your particular favorite commercial theater is light challenged at the current time…in the grand scheme of things, I think this will be but a blip (dim) on the radar screen (or sonar, in your case), for as I said in that linked post of a couple weeks ago, in 5 -10 years there will be laser projectors in the field and these should get the light level up to around 8-10 fL and that doesn’t even include any possible interim advancements in screen or glasses technology, should they occur.
I have no doubts that the technology will mature over time and the light issue with be resolved. I am speaking more in regards to the films being released in the near future. Even in my HT, which is 3D equipped, I am only seeing about 3-4 fL on my screen through the glasses. It works better in this respect than a commercial theater because I have less ambient light to work against, but I RARELY watch anything in 3D at home. While I think the tech works really well for being so early on in its rollout, I prefer the passive experience at a theater compared to the active experience at home (with regards to glasses). Unfortunately the passive options for home don't deliver the same benefits as the theater (less resolution).

I've heard rumblings that there will be some laser based PJs at CEDIA this year. Aside from 3D, the front projection market has largely been stagnent for awhile with only small improvements being made. I am hoping this year CEDIA will provide some excitement in this arena. Laser projection and 4K would be an interesting start!

I’m for anything which is done well …..and 2D -> 3D conversions can be done well. Reviews for ‘Dark of the Moon’ bear that out, as well as the generalized lack of the viewing public and critics alike to noticing any converted material present in AVATAR, despite the fact there was some -
https://forum.blu-ray.com/insider-di...ml#post4753467

‘Converted ‘ scenes can have their strengths because of their increased flexibility as compared to that of native stereoscopic acquisition, for example, see the paragraph here on ‘more control’ –
https://forum.blu-ray.com/insider-di...ml#post4821145

Some of you guys have a tendency to simplify processes into absolutisms and then align yourselves on a particular ‘side’. Often, it is not as cut-and-dried as that.

The article which you link is inaccurate and out of date, for, by the end of the post production process, when all was said and done, it turned out that much more than the CGI was converted.

Perhaps you missed or didn’t quite understand this past post(s) of mine – https://forum.blu-ray.com/insider-di...ml#post4917317

Fact of the matter is that Legend3D did a substantial amount of conversion of both non-vfx and vfx shots. I think that ‘SCREENRANT’ is about as clueless to this as they are/were to the presence of any converted material in AVATAR, for this was not publicized in mainstream media.

I always imagined that the next format would be 4k. Sadly, it is in the back of my mind that we will all be force fed HD lite from various streaming companies.
I truly hope bluray will carry on and exist for many, many years. I just have this rather nightmarish scenario where 4gig 720mbps is the norm and all the home cinema fans do not have any true HD source at all. It worries me that in 5-10 years i will not have cinema quality in my own home. In fact, if this ever happened i think my home cinema days would be over. Could not bear such atrocious quality like certain companies provide from their Hd streaming/downloading. So all of this talk of 3d and 4k does not interest me. what does interest me is the preservation of my beloved 2d blurays.

Baz Lurhmann is shooting The Great Gatsby in 3D, which to me is a sign that the 3D craze is getting out of hand.

Well, Mr. Luhrmann's productions have always been out of hand. Had he told you, some years ago, that he was planning a Romeo and Juliet for the screen, it might not have occurred to you to ask if he'd secured a shooting permit for the perfect gas station. If you knew he was making a musical about the Moulin Rouge, you probably wouldn't have asked if he'd locked down that Bowie tune.

Why that's wonderful news...though I get the feeling you don't share my enthusiasm.

Obviously, I don't agree it's a craze...3D's more like an inevitability.

Some years ago, there were people who perhaps said the same thing about the "color craze."

Just watched SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS for the first time tonight - absolutely stunning film, Criterion did a magnificent job. Also finally managed to track down a copy of LEBANON on Blu, can't wait to watch it for the first time!

If filmmakers expended as much effort on writing as they do on CG and 3D, I'd be far more impressed.

Eliminate the glasses, eliminate the dimness, and make sure the rest of the film is quality, and I'll buy into 3D.

So, are you also waiting for the writing to improve across the board before jumping in on this whole "color" thing?

It was the first page that came up when I googled it. I guess that's why they call the internet the "misinformation super-highway"

Well, in my last post, I was referring more to present day situations, not historical analysis but, if you must –

You mean that instead of a certain major studio in Burbank sitting on the fence and milking the situation for every cent, as long as it possibly could (https://forum.blu-ray.com/insider-di...ml#post3137443)

-that organization could have flipped exclusively to HD DVD and subsequently changed bunker planning and the ultimate history of the war?

Not likely at all, for the retailers were about to make *the choice* for them….https://forum.blu-ray.com/insider-di...ml#post3137333

Nevertheless, Adolf’s prediction was absolutely spot-on regarding LOTR, whether he was referring to the theatrical editions (https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=4445) or the recently released extended editions (https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=6819 )…..or both.

P.S.
I think that the first time this video ^ was posted on YouTube before it was taken down, it had something like several hundred thousand views and approached the 1 million mark if I recall correctly.

Not a problem , for as I said, this post production information was purposely not revealed to the general public or even cinema-related websites, for a reason -

Oh no let's not bring up that subject yet again. - "Format War" -

I think most of us would rather just forget it even happened.

So much time, energy, and resources wasted.
