Silly question:

Is there any reason to manufacture a player with the main boards upside down, apart from preventing casual peeking?

To use the bottom plate of the case as a heat sink for the SoC to reduce costs and eliminate the fan.

Keith

Are there more companys making devices like the TVix and Popcorn Hour or are they going to be limited to a very small amount of companys doing these types of devices?

In a related question, I realize it's not your field necessiarily, but why are PCI cards always upside down, even when they could greatly benefit from being rightside up (especially on a graphics card) for heat dissipation?

There are many others, such as

2001 Technology
D-Link
Egreat
Freecom
Hantech
HD Digitech
Istar
Mediagate
Mvix
Pinnacle
Pixel Magic
Shenzhen JWL Electronic
Tomacro

HP has it integrated inside their new HDTVs, and several other HDTV manufacturers will be following the trend.

A variation of these devices are Media Center Extenders, and several major CE companies will be producing them.

They've been upside down ever since the PCI spec came out originally, so that motherboards could have combo ISA/PCI slots and still fit in the old cases. Granted, they could put the GPU and memory on the opposite side of the metal backplate, but that'd be very inefficient space-wise.

Also, any card with cooling concerns is going to have a fan on it anyway, making orientation much less important, especially with the newer squirrel-cage fans.

Awesome. 179 for the Popcorn Hour is too much, so i was hoping more companys would be making similar players so everything gets cheaper faster. Thanks keith.

Hey Kjack,

For the UWB over Coax. Will there be multiple set-ups for this.

For example 1 sender and 2 receivers(for 2 tvs) over coax, or am I going to need 2 senders and 2 receivers.

I am was going to re-wire my house, but now I am waiting for this technology to come out. I want to hide all my equipment, in a closest on a rack.

Thanks

Default Profile 3 finalized?

Kjack, do you know if the elusive Blu-ray Profile 3, rumoured to be an audio-only variant of the format, has been finalized?

(Some of us on this board are hoping that Blu will pick up where SACD and DVD-A left off and I'm wondering whether it isn't too late for consumers to agitate for it, prod the Resident Powers to include their fav features etc.)

TIA.

If you look closely, you'll see six Chinese manufacturers showing their BD players, Plus, several Chinese manufacturers didn't make it to the show.
