Oh, sorry, I completely misunderstood what you were driving at. Yes, they can absolutely output multiple grades from a single 'home' DV master providing that the relevant trim metadata has been completed. As an example, when the DV mezzanine files are handed off to Netflix they generate EVERYTHING else from that one master, including the SDR stream (there's always an exception though: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...a#post15920108).

I will agree that the technology has not advanced to the stage that a close up of a fully animated human face could totally fool us. But I believe that Alita can. Cameron is risking that the “Uncanny Valley” will not turn too many people away from seeing the movie. Yes, the big eyes are somewhat faithful to the manga. But, I think he wanted to push the envelope and see if he could get an audience to fully buy in and relate to an almost human face character. I think that the big eyes give our subconscious mind the excuse to fully believe in Alita's countenance.

Contrary to your statement, Alita has way too many facial expressions. She does not have the muscles to make these expressions, since her brain is in a metal skull covered by some synthetic skin. But these expressions are there to help us see Alita as a fellow human. The ultimate success of this movie depends on it.

Thought this was worthy to cross post a Blu-ray.com thread I started on the surprise early launch of Sony's 2019 X950G series.

From my findings at CES 2019 this was on my very very short list of TVs I absolutely fell in love with. 55" to 85" screen choices makes this TV appealing to enthusiasts with a larger budget, but will enjoy the value/performance and to an even larger market of those on a moderate budget. I even wonder if folks who are looking in the entry level of TV offerings might consider the X950G or another one of the many other excellent step-up choices for 2019.

The X950G series has Sony's Backlight Master Drive, X1 Ultimate processor and the latest in panel and backlight control available.

So let's say someone, a "friend" , has a 65" OLED. He's been itching to go bigger. Let's also say that by 4Q '19, the 77" LG C9 OLED can be had for $5,000 and the 85" Sony 950G can also be had for $5,000.

Robert, what say ye? Based on what you saw at the show, how would you recommend someone choose between the two?
