Thanks Penton Man. Good info.
KFP2, Madagascar 3, The Croods, HTTYD are great in 3D. Puss in Boots and MvA, while good, seems more mild for 3D layering in a number of shots.
Turbo's 3D looked great. And the new trailer before Man of Steel 3D looks like fun. Will check it out!

When I saw the trailer I was iffy about it but went to see it anyways and I loved it. It was a very good film, but I wish I got to see it in 3D, but good thing I have a 3D TV!

Turbo will be in theaters in about a month...http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1860353/

It contains some very deep racing sequences.

Will Captain 3D continue to work in Hollywood 3D? If not, I'd be pretty disappointed although DreamWorks still has another ace in Willem Drees (Kung Fu Panda 2 and Rise of the Guardians).

I felt that way from the comedy skit trailers that didn't show enough adventure or story, but after seeing it, turned out to be a fun adventure movie I was hoping for with great characters, even Nic Cage as the father surprised me. And the 3D was strong all the way. The slap stick here is on par with the comic violence of classic Looney Tunes! Very refreshing to see that happen in this day of "try doing everything you see on TV".

Awesome. They only hint at the racing action in the trailers, so that's good to hear. I like the main character Turbo Snail. Thanks for the link. I'd say 3D is already on par with The Croods from the trailer so far anyway.

If he does retire, hopefully he's taught an apprentice everything he knows about the value of strong 3D.

He’s still young and stereoscopy is in his blood. As to where, or in what capacity, he’ll again make his commercial mark, I don’t know…and at this point, I doubt neither does he.

I'm disappointed this couldn't be released after the usual three month period but, hey, at least there's finally a definitive release date.

Yeah...I dont know why we are getting this so late. I mean, were getting Iron Man 3 (August 27th), The Great Gatsby(August 27th), and Star Trek: Into Darkness (September) before we are getting The Croods and Croods came out almost 2 months before.

Oh well...no biggie. Just odd.

October. That is later than expected. They might be targeting this as a Halloween type movie with all of the monsters they faced off against, but that's a stretch. Then again, they marketed Rise of the Guardians 3D as an Easter Movie "Perfect for Easter" thanks to the Easter Rabbit scene in that movie.

Also:
GI Joe Retaliation 3D July 30. 24.99 on amazon.com. Hopefully the Croods hits that price also.

Well, both of DreamWorks' previous movies released in March (Monsters vs. Aliens and How To Train Your Dragon) got pretty delayed releases (November for MvA and October for HTTYD). Granted, those were four and three years ago, but maybe waiting until after summer helps them maximize sales.

The Easter tie-in for Guardians makes sense... The entire movie virtually centered around that holiday. So it wasn't any sort of stretch at all, though I agree tying in The Croods with Halloween definitely would be.

Why are there three separate dates listed on this site for the The Croods? It doesn't make sense.

Is the guy who posted that Captain 3D has left Dreamworks sure about that? The link he posted doesn't say anything about him leaving and he is listed as working on Dreamworks Mr. Peabody & Sherman and How to Train Your Dragon 2 on his IMDB.

I'm pissed I skipped Croods in theatres. Thought it would be out on BD shortly after.

Yes, “the guy” ...https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=31882 is sure about that just like the guy knows without reading any internet forums that Guillermo Navarro and Guillermo del Toro shot a 3D test for Pacific Rim but the studio then informed them that it wasn’t in the budget to shoot native 3D.

Initially, the Director was not interested at all in doing a conversion. But later on the studio apparently *encouraged* him as to the merits of a 3D release (vis-à-vis what was within budget, i.e. a conversion). Turns out in the end I think everyone involved (including consumers) is happy about the outcome.

I posted the link not as to give an update about his employment status but rather to show a pic of his mug and demonstrate how respected he is in the Stereoscopic industry. Last word is he’s working on some personal projects involving shooting stereo flight movies and viewing them on Oculus Rift goggles ( http://www.oculusvr.com/ ).

Even though "the guy" is officially retired, "the guy" still keeps his nose to the wind and is savvy to quite a few things which are not reported.

Interesting. Thanks Paul. We'll see if it sticks, but usually when then set it earlier than the later estimate, that's usually a good sign.

Pacific Rim's 3D was awesome, yes. Thanks for that behind the scenes info, which is always appreciated.

I think the Croods will be a day one buy if it's 24.99 or less. Lots of adventure, Looney Tunes slapstick humor and the 3D was strong. Fun movie.
