I have started converting some of my BD collection to Viva-Elite 6mm 1 & 2 Disc BD cases. I have converted about 40 movies so far.
I have found a few of the 12.5mm Viva-Elite case cover art inlays fit the 6mm case without trimming the width. The specification for the 6mm cover inlay width is 263mm. The 14mm Vortex inlay width spec is 270mm (+7mm) and the 12.5mm Viva-Elite inlay are typically 267mm (+4mm). Limited use of 6mm 2 disc case: The 6mm 2 disc case does not have booklet tabs nor would a booklet fit into the 6mm 2 discs case. For now I'm leaveing 2 disc sets with booklets in their original case. Trimming the Inlay: I have a RotoTrim precision paper cutter (rotory blade, flat-bed w/rule) that I use to accuratly trim the width of the cover art inlay. I typically trim equal amounts from the front & rear cover inlay panels, i.e., 1-2mm from each if the Viva-Elite panels and 2-3.5mm from each of the Vortex cover art inlay panels to get the total cover inlay width down to 262-263mm. However, some inlays require less trimming and others may require a less balanced approach to panel trimming. Some of the text on the rear inlay panels are too close to the panel edge so I can't trim the desired amount off without cutting the text or leaving a small margin, therefore I trim an additional 1 or 2mm more from the front panel. Movie Title Legibility: I have fould no legibility issues so far. Some of the movie titles have a small enough font to fully fit with in the 6mm case edge and all other can be easily read from the 6mm end even though the font may curve somewhat toward the front and rear panels. All I need now is the time Last edited by m6bigdog; 02-25-2010 at 03:21 PM. |

Am I the only one who is having problems with their cases breaking at the top and/or bottom of the spine? So, I ordered some cases from ebay so if anyone is interested in some single disc BD cases, brought a 5 pack of Viva Elite for $7.25 off ebay!

I also just ordered from the same guy on ebay today. There's 1 other seller who has the Elite cases, but the above seller ships same day and his location is closer to me, so I went with him. Neither has 2-disc Elite cases as of now. |

If so, which case did you use? Were you able to keep and use the original BD artwork? |

This is the same guy I ordered from. Those are the thick 3-disc cases that Sony and Disney use. He also has 4, 5, and 6 disc sets. Last edited by Mr. Cinema; 03-02-2010 at 11:56 PM. |

I got the Rocky undisputed collection and the case came all broken into pieces with loose discs (from amazon) Never had a problem like that with them before. Anyway... 7 disc Elits? How thick are those? I am not sure, but I believe those 7-disc cases the Rocky collection comes in is something like 22mm. Any info? Read all messages and I realize 7-disc cases are extremely hard to find, but will continue looking.

I just placed an order with Vernon. I need a 4 disc and the options there are limited. I ordered from Sleevetown last time. I thought their prices on the cases were really good, but they make up for it with what they charge for shipping. Overall it's cheaper to order from Vernon because their shipping isn't as expensive as with Sleevetown.
UPDATE: Holy Crap!! I ordered this yesterday and it was delivered this morning. This is where I'll be buying from from now on. I should also point out that these cases have the type of center release button that actually works. No more feeling like I'm going to snap the disc in half trying to get it out of the case. Anyone buy from aaron85045 on eBay? I only need 2 2-disc Vortex cases and that's exactly what he's got, for $4.98 and free shipping. Is that a good price? I need one for A Bug's Life which has a thin crack in the corner and PotC: Curse of the Black Pearl because the plastic for the insert is all wrinkled on the front.
Also anyone know where to get 3-disc Viva Elite cases with the swing tray like The Dark Knight and Wizard of Oz Emerald Edition come in? Last edited by The Blu Knight; 03-06-2010 at 08:38 PM. |
