They are. I noticed this as well with the Elite 3-disc cases. The older ones seemed slightly thicker and sturdier.

Yeah when I got them in I could tell something was off. I mean I can't be too upset as at least they are not eco's.

I wonder why they are going to a thinner mold? I still wish the vortex's where non eco.

To save plastic which directly saves them money and at the same time they're still able to charge the same amount even though they used less plastic.

Viva must have the most variants for cases, eco and non-eco alike, I've seen so many different styles and slight changes it's ridiculous.

I am disappointed about the new, thinner, non-eco Viva Elite cases. Is there anywhere where you can order the thicker versions? Is there a different model number or something?

Is there any way to tell if it is the thicker or thinner version from a picture of them?

Does anyone know where to get clear Elite cases in bulk? There is a korean seller on ebay who has got exactly the ones I'm looking for, but he ships maximum 25 cases at a time and the price is pretty high regardless...

Already bought a few from him to test and they are the sturdiest Elite cases I have had in hand so far. They open and close pretty hard but I don't mind as long as they're not flimsy.

A lot of asian releases seem to come with the clear type so I asked Yesasia if they might be able to sell any... and appearantly their supplier could not do it.

Any hints are much appreciated

Doubt you'd be able to find the older style, or at least easily. I don't think retailers are going to make a distinction between them. And no there wouldn't be a way to tell just by a photo of them.

I don't really like the idea of the new thinner Viva cases, but it's still better than having eco cases. As long as there's an option to get a case without the cut-outs I'm happy.

Yeah, I think that's peculiar. I mean, it must cost a lot of money to constantly make changes to molds and also the machine which prints the silver logo.
And a lot of changes don't seem to have any purpose at all so why are they doing it?

Does anyone have a 3 disc blu-ray case with a 3d logo on it?

I got this case in today from an eBay seller in South Korea. I'm using it as a replacement for my copy of the Blind Dead Quadrilogy. The German studio put it in this strange cardboard case. It's getting too banged up, so, I'm throwing it in the box with all my slipcovers.

That looks to be opaque? I thought the double cases from that seller were translucent.

Not opaque. It's probably from the reflection. It's kinda shiny.

Meritline confirmed that there double cases are Polystyrene. I will not order from them since I don't like this stiff plastic type as the break easier.

However, GenesysDTP lowered their prices on double cases after I inquired with them about competition, so I will order the generics from them since I have ordered before with them and the cases were satisfactory to me.

Really? It looks opaque because it IS shiny. Tranlucent would mean you could see through, instead it only catches your reflection.
So if you put a coverart sleeve that has artwork on the inside, you'll be able to see that artwork through the plastic?
I ask, only because I've seen this seller, selling these on ebay, and was thinking about getting a few.

No, you won't. It's a solid black. It's not like the regular Blu-ray cases.

I own a bunch of these, and they are definitely opaque. You can't see through them at all from the inside.

Mine isn't. When I get home in another day or so, I'll take a pic with cover art in it. You won't see through it.

I think you guys are using alternate definitions for the word, "opaque."

Nisei, rickah88 and noirjunkie seem to be using this definition:

Quote:
not transparent or translucent; impenetrable to light; not allowing light to pass through.
The photo seems to support this definition.

OrlandoEastwood seems to be using this definition:

Quote:
not shining or bright; dark; dull.
The photo does not seem to support this definition.

That is what I've always considered opaque to be.

Wouldn't matted be the correct term for what Orland means.

"Matte" would be nearly synonymous with the "not shining or bright" definition of "opaque," but technically, both definitions for "opaque" are valid, which I think is where the confusion is. The case is and is not opaque, because the case is non-translucent but it also appears to be glossy and shiny.
