This time around, all of the cases in the shipment of 100 that I took out of the box were thankfully undamaged. They don't close quite as airtight as I'd prefer, but that's a small complaint and it happens with most of the Amaray cases out there anyway.

Now that I've finished replacing the eco-cases in my collection, I still have about 55 new Viva Elite cases in the box to use for future purchases. I guess that purchasing another box of 100 was overkill, but my future purchases should be covered for quite a while.
It wasn't. The boxes come in numbers of 25 and each time you order a 100 the price of one case goes down. Have a look:

25 - $0.39 each
100 - $0.33 each

So, when I need a lot like I did a couple months ago I will buy a 100 at a time. Now, that I am caught up with about 25 or so extra cases I should be good for at least several weeks.

Now I'm thinking about selling off the bulk of the dvds, as I never use them unless they house extras not available on the BD. That would probably free up a lot of cases.
Selling the DVDs will definitely give you some cash. I honestly don't need them except for kids/family titles.

True. Cash is always nice. I'm interested in "case consolidation".
I'm getting a rough count now, man this is tedious!

That was my logic as well. 100 cases for $43 is tough to beat.

I also did business with Casetopia this weekend to buy 10 double-disc Scanavo cases for the upcoming Criterion purchases, since my copy of Thief needed a replacement case, and I wanted more on hand.

Which brings me to the latest on the list of "First World Problems of Blu-ray collectors"...
It's time-consuming to replace the eco-cases with the Viva Elite cases if I'm replacing a bunch of them at once.

Thankfully, this won't be a problem from now on.

Kinda defeats the purpose of eco cases if you buy other covers to replace them with Why are they so bad? Do you fondle your keep cases often?

Well, it's not exactly our choice to have the eco cases to begin with. I just recently replaced about 130 eco cases (took me 2 days, lol). Speaking for myself, the reason I pretty much despise eco cases is because it has to potential to damage the artwork, not to mention, the cases are less sturdy. And I plan on either recycling the old cases, or selling them off to someone who doesn't mind these types of cases.

I don't like the holes behind the discs in the eco-cases. They're just too flimsy for my tastes.

It's not a grand scale life or death issue, by any stretch, but good replacement cases are pretty inexpensive.

I'm looking to replace all the Eco Cases - and also maybe do a few batches of different colors to start to organize my collection a little differently (i.e. orange for horror, green for sci-fi... or something like that to make it easier for me).

I notice that Viva Elite is doing alot of eco cases for studios now. Almost every case is an eco case, and many of them are labeled as Viva Elite...

If I order from one of these websites (such as discmakers), is it 100% that I will get a NON-eco case? That would be a real ***** to order a batch of replacements, and I get more of the stuff I"m trying to replace.

Do you really think the studios made the movie to be green? Or because they closet less to produce? I too have at least 5 artwork damaged due to the holes, if you pick on up you can easily tear the paper if your thumb or finger is on the open hole. The Eco-lites are much better, but still flmsy, I still prefer the Viva Elites. My collection is almost 100% Viva Elites.

Too bad for many older (or more mass produced) DVD's, selling the disc wouldn't even net a replacement case.

I'm definitely thinking of doing it on some of the criterion "multi-packs" in the future. Especially anything that's a box set. Whenever I get around to getting Zatoichi, I will almost certainly make a custom case for blu-rays - and do what I can to sell the DVD's.

Yes you will be getting the regular Viva Elites and not the eco-cases.

Yeah. I just ordered a whole bunch of 3/2/single Viva Elites from Discmakers and they are the standard cases and not the Eco-cases with holes cut out of them. Buy with confidence on that front.

That said, even the standard Viva Elites are getting flimsier for me with each successive purchase, especially the singles.

Why is it that some 3 disc viva elites have a 1/1/1 configuration and others have a 2/1 configuration?

Damn, that stinks. All about saving 1/10ths of a penny per case I guess.

Anyone have any experience with the Scanovo cases? I might try those out instead. (talking the 11 mm ones to replace a standard case, not the ones that are Criterion).

I have noticed that also. My guess is that is was an older design as they are rarely seen.

They are not eco cases, it would state if they were.. I just ordered over 130 new cases from Discmakers (a mix of single, double & triple cases) and not a single one was an eco case.. I was VERY happy with the cases.. I still have some double & triple cases left over, but all out of single.. I think I may buy 50 more for future blu-ray purchases, just so I have them on hand.

The 1/1/1 cases are probably the newer ones. I actually like those better than the 2/1 cases.
