Lol my experience with Casetopia mirrored what has been said here. Placed my order, heard nothing for over two weeks, sent them an email, it shipped the next day.

So it appears they fulfill orders in the order they get anxious emails. So that's handy to know.

This technique seemed to work for me for a couple consecutive orders, but on my most recent order I didn't get any response to multiple emails over the course of about six weeks. I did finally get a response and the order shipped, but for over a month I wasn't certain whether I'd get the order or would have to file a credit card chargeback.

Is Casetopia trustworthy to get cases from? If so I'm going to use two 4 disc 4K Cases for the Fast and Furious movies since I bought the Collection and loathe the Digibook bullshit they did for it, and didn't see an 8 case one. Cases will be loose in the box but It'll be better than nothing if I want to use the damn discs and protect them. But if not, where could I find an 8 Disc 4K Case using Credit/Debit?

or possible Alternative, what size are the cases in the Jurassic World 5 movie collection when it had the thin individual cases in them? I might fit 8 of those in there and have the BDs too, if there's any excess black ones to purchase.

I know there's a lot of griping about casetopia on this thread (and deservedly so based on what I have read) but I just made my first purchase from them on May 24, it was shipped five days later and arrived (in Canada) yesterday, well packaged and intact. No complaints from me (so far).

RE: 4K UHD cases --

Would you recommend replacing all 3-disc and 4-disc stacked cases with cases containing the individual disc holders?

If so, and I do go this route, how will this affect box sets such as "The Dark Knight Trilogy" and "The Matrix Trilogy"? Will the new cases still fit in the slipbox?

Yeah it's quite annoying. xD However, I've noticed that the Blu-ray movies by Universal Studios/Universal Pictures Home Entertainment have had solid 1-disc and 2-disc Viva Elite cases for the past few years now, at least in the stores in my area. Not sure if that's the case in other areas, but I really like that Universal has been doing this lately and supporting the Blu-ray format this way. From what I've seen, all the other big Hollywood studios are using eco cases next to them on the shelves; so in my stores, it just feels good to pick up and hold a Universal movie compared to the others.

The 4K stacker cases are 12.5mm Viva Elite. The 3-disc 4K Viva Elite cases are the same width, but the 4-disc Viva Elite cases are 15mm.

I was wondering if any of you knowledgeable folks here could do me a big favor and answer this question I had about possible replacement of cases:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=340933

I posted it in the newbie forum last night but it might have been the wrong place. If anyone can help that'd be great.

What about these ones that 20th Century Fox used for the Daniel Craig set?

It's not moisture, it's an agent added to the plastic during manufacturing to prevent the plastic sheets from binding. The additive is greasy and literally sweats out of the plastic since it's an ingredient in the plastic. I wipe that grease off with Zeiss lens wipes soaked in denatured alcohol (the alcohol in the wipes evaporates too quickly to be useful). The crud can be pretty stubborn, requiring good elbow grease to get it off. Over time, the residue will reappear on the plastic surface but won't be as thick.

The disc is usually far enough from the case wall to prevent contact with the residue, but I have a handful of Viva Elites with faulty hubs that allow part of the disc to touch the case, in which case it would be wise to wipe off the slime. That said, if the disc gets affected, it's no problem—a couple of wipes with a microfiber cloth, and it's gone. But yeah that shit looks ugly, but it ain't H2O.

Similar to what Leeon0 replied in the post above, that greasy residue/gassy spots you are seeing in your Blu-ray cases are very common in my experience too, and are part of the manufacturing and substances used to make the plastic cases. It's not because of your house's previous water leak, and there is most likely no need at all to replace your Blu-ray cases.

Thankfully, the scratch- and stain-resistant protective layer on Blu-ray discs seems to make them resistant to picking up any of this greasy/gassy residue from the plastic cases. And if any does happen to get onto the discs --- as Leeon0 said here --- it can be easily wiped off with a microfiber cloth.

I'll add, however, that some DVDs included in Blu-ray combo packs sometimes seem to have their surfaces fogged up over time, probably because they lack that protective layer to protect them from the greasy/gassy residue in the cases. It's happened to some of my DVDs. Sometimes they can be wiped off with just a microfiber cloth; other times, the "fog" is stuck on and requires cleaning-off with alcohol. In either case, though, playback of the DVDs doesn't seem to be affected.

Still, I don't feel good about the greasy/gassy residue in Blu-ray cases. I must say that the opaque, matte plastic used for the solid DVD cases in the late 90s/early 2000s have really proven themselves to be the nicest preservers of movie discs. When stored properly, they've kept my DVDs clean and functional without any such problems even after more than 20 years of aging. *fingers crossed*

I wish that the Blu-ray and 4K formats had used that same kind of opaque matte plastic for their cases, but maybe just in a different size and color from DVD cases to differentiate them. Oh well. =/

Acktchually, there ARE regular-sized, non-stacked-disc, 4-disc UHD cases out there. Deadpool 2 (Super Cut) and Logan (with Noir) came in those. Those are the only two that I know of, anyway.

Yeah it was the dumbest idea ever to use that kind of plastic for the storage of sensitive optical discs. I miss those grease-free matt DVD cases, especially the Amarays with the ying-yang hubs. On the minus side, the DVDs lacked the superior coating that BDs have, making them a challenge to clean, as you point out. Guess it's not possible to have the best of both worlds (as usual). I remember the day I noticed the appearance of that foggy residue on my X-Files DVDs, which came in clear, slim Scanavo cases (same plastic as Blu-ray cases). I had to wash an untold number of discs with dishwashing liquid to get the residue off and then replaced all the cases with slim matt ones.

I should mention it's worth cleaning the flip trays in multi-disc sets because the BDs touch the plastic in those (I'd rather clean the cases than the discs). Alas, the BS we have to go through as collectors . . . mostly because of manufacturers' poorly thought-out planning.

anyone know where i can purchase a replacement case for the 4k lotr trilogy? the one i have doesn’t hold the discs in place and they fall off constantly. they aren’t “snapping” into place. it is 9 discs and is 25mm i believe.

It's insane how it's so hard for a consumer to find replacement cases because we can only buy 12.5mm, 15, 22, and 25... 12.5 is easy enough if you need 2-3 discs but if you need 4 or a bigger cases you're out of luck because they never seem to use 15, it's always more like 14 or larger but never as big as 22. It doesn't help that people need replacements more and more these days with how studios insist on stacking discs, nobody wants to support that and have them get scratches.

Parks and Recreation is stacked... so I'm just housing two discs from each season in cases I've removed everything from because I've upgrade from BD to 4K lol It's not ideal, but I will not restack.

Did you find out??? I was just wondering the same exact thing. I'm sure you can find them downtown somewhere, but where exactly is the question.
