My employer is expanding their workforce to keep up with the new outdoor dining demand, surprised I wasn't 1 of the 3 dishwashers they picked. The 2 long-time employees I understand but not sure why that uber slow new guy was picked over me, they're probably going to regret that decision on the nights they're there till like 12 AM when they should be out closer till 10 LOL.

Small comfort is at least it's more time away from a job I hate, with hopefully another stimulus check and more aid from my school coming.

Zorbas claims the city's Department of Transportation only told the business about the suspension of new street seating permitted by the city during the pandemic.

"We were only informed of the street," Zorbas said. "We have the outdoor sidewalk permit. We have that from before COVID."

"Obviously, when I'm informed, I'll do it," he added. Brik was open for takeout and a handful of outdoor tables on the sidewalk Sunday afternoon.

believe me Indy, and no offense , as I’m grateful that we’re all here and have this opportunity to engage about the pandemic, but I feel the same when I read your guys provincial discussions about places in NYC that I’m totally unfamiliar with, as pretty much the sum of my knowledge from your neck of the woods is related to sports figures, e.g.

( ^ if that gets taken down, then -> https://twitter.com/snyyankees/statu...42481070628875 )

nevertheless, I’m willing to learn about places like Astoria, all serves a purpose , even Vincent T. in his review today about the Panasonic HZ2000 makes reference to COVID-19

P.S.
well, sports figures and ‘Sam’ (one of the greatest military minds in U.S. history) fighting on until the end - https://www.history.com/news/how-uly...irs-mark-twain

CNBC - Coronavirus vaccine from Oxford and AstraZeneca shows positive response in early trial

Early results of the 1,000 person trial of the Oxford/Astra Zeneca vaccine released this morning. No major side effects, neutralizing antibodies after 28 days, plus t-cells. Human trials in the USA with this vaccine are expected in the next few weeks.

edit: BBC article woops that should have specified that neutralizing antibodies peak after 28 days, then decline; t-cells peak after 14 days, then decline... that's not particularly promising. The study wasn't run long enough to see how much they drop off. This is more disappointing than I thought.

I haven’t red the actual Lancet paper yet, they seem to be really pushing the value of helper T’s. I have read the preliminary results of the Moderna vaccine and copied to computer –

SARS-COV-2 NEUTRALIZATION RESPONSES

No participant had detectable PsVNA responses before vaccination. After the first vaccination, PsVNA responses were detected in less than half the participants, and a dose effect was seen (50% inhibitory dilution [ID50]: Figure 2C, Fig. S8, and Table 2; 80% inhibitory dilution [ID80]: Fig. S2 and Table S6). However, after the second vaccination, PsVNA responses were identified in serum samples from all participants. The lowest responses were in the 25-μg dose group, with a geometric mean ID50 of 112.3 (95% CI, 71.2 to 177.1) at day 43; the higher responses in the 100-μg and 250-μg groups were similar in magnitude (geometric mean ID50, 343.8 [95% CI, 261.2 to 452.7] and 332.2 [95% CI, 266.3 to 414.5], respectively, at day 43). These responses were similar to values in the upper half of the distribution of values for convalescent serum specimens.

Before vaccination, no participant had detectable 80% live-virus neutralization at the highest serum concentration tested (1:8 dilution) in the PRNT assay. At day 43, wild-type virus–neutralizing activity capable of reducing SARS-CoV-2 infectivity by 80% or more (PRNT80) was detected in all participants, with geometric mean PRNT80responses of 339.7 (95% CI, 184.0 to 627.1) in the 25-μg group and 654.3 (95% CI, 460.1 to 930.5) in the 100-μg group (Figure 2D). Neutralizing PRNT80 average responses were generally at or above the values of the three convalescent serum specimens tested in this assay. Good agreement was noted within and between the values from binding assays for S-2P and receptor-binding domain and neutralizing activity measured by PsVNA and PRNT (Figs. S3 through S7), which provides orthogonal support for each assay in characterizing the humoral response induced by mRNA-1273.

I’m wondering how Oxford’s vaccine racks up compared to Moderna’s very good neutralizing antibody response.

There should be some editorial on the Lancet by now. I’m thinking definitely good enough to proceed forward with additional trials. Whereas, the best candidate vaccine so far?….that’s another question.

The New Mexico Restaurant Association and some dining establishments have won their lawsuit against Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, accusing her of targeting the restaurant industry.

The lawsuit requested a temporary restraining order that now stops the governor from carrying on with the recently amended public health order. This means for the next 10 days, restaurants can open for indoor dining at 50% capacity. The reason the judge permitted restaurants to reopen for the next 10 days was because the State failed to file any response by the set deadline of July 20.

At this time it is unknown what will happen after the 10 day mark. This is a developing story.

Glad to be back at work, hopefully it lasts, certainly is sooner than I expected.

Don't count on another stimulus check - it doesn't appear likely to be coming. They're talking about some kind of incentive to get people back to work; maybe a payroll tax cut or something similar. The more time passes, the less likely they'll give more money away in the form of a check.

Yeah I know, at least my employer is back at it for 10 days (hopefully longer) and tonight I won't have to work with that useless old dishwasher. So while I don't want to go to work today I'm going anyway so I can pay bills lol.

I was suppose to be in Disney right now.

Unfortunately, my state has a quarantine against anyone coming from Florida. So we had to cancel.

That's seriously awful. They forget about those of us that CAN'T go back to work and leaving us to hang.

The only good news is that NYS unemployment is extended from 23 weeks a year to 59.

Wow. The new deal for millions of new Covid-19 vaccine doses for the UK sounds like great news. I thought Italy or Spain could have got it done first if they were confident in getting them for their health service. But the only thing that I'm worried is how it works on the general population once they get it. The vaccine must be quite a reliable one to use if it become's suitable for mass usage.

I’m limited with regards to the assay stuff in virology and much of the detail is beyond the scope of my knowledge. The way I see it is like in the movie American Sniper, neutralizing antibodies are similar to the Marines on the ground clearing out the enemy in the streets (the virus in your bloodstream, fluids, etc.), whereas T cells are like the other soldiers that have to bust open the door to enter a structure (the cells in your body) and then root out the enemy that has successfully moved from the streets into said building.

The value of the exact levels of each to best accomplish the mission is unknown, at least by me. Seems like Moderna’s vaccine may be stronger at clearing the streets and Oxford’s is stronger at house-to-house door kicking and virus killing. Nevertheless, the more encouraging vaccine candidates the better as I see them as shots on goal in soccer (football). And as Tony mentioned in that facebook interview on the last page, it’s good for all of us that companies and countries are willing to take the financial risk in order to expediate the process when none of these are sure shots.

80k dead and over 2 million infected in my country. Perhaps the most depressing thing of all is noticing how many people still aren't taking this seriously. Due to the carelessness, I believe we'll live with the damn virus for well over a year.
