Back in March, people in this thread, my family, neighbors and colleagues all assured me that we will get through this. It is now July and things are just getting worse. So when exactly are we going to officially get through this pandemic? This is taking a long time!! I want to live a normal life again!!

You realize it's only been 4 months, right? That's not "a long time." No rational person in this thread said it would be done by July.

However, that said, if people did what they were supposed to, we'd all be "normal" right now. It's really sad to think about if you think about it too long.

Right now, we would have very little to worry about if people had just worn masks and distanced as they should.

If you read the headlines on the latest facts (data) and what steps are taken to flatten the curve and restart the economy and the advices given by the top leaders in America, and the businesses set to reopen (Disney) and the schools this fall, and the stuff about masks, and the stuff about freedom, and the stuff about help from stimulus checks, and what are the main priorities and good values, etc., etc., etc., then that Canadian article that you just read is not depressive @ all. It is realistic, no sugar coating, action/reaction logic, to the point, scientific, ...brief how can we protect the front line fighters...nurses and doctors, and how can we protect people from spreading the virus, accelerating the death toll, how can we protect our society against enemy public invisible number one?

What did went right?

Looking back what did we do wrong? Looking ahead what scientists are seeing coming?
Who was wrong? Who didn't help? Who helped spreading Coronavirus?
Who gave us the right advice?

I mean the article is not depressing, reality is.
We cannot go back in time, we cannot go pray in churches, we cannot undo what is done and continue to be done (packed airplanes, Disney reopening, ...), what does it take to see the obvious? ...One more million infected, ten? 100,000 more departed, 200,000?
It's not up to others, it's up to us as a team, a united team. Where is that united team? ...Behind the divided one?

The article is not depressive, what we are doing is, who we are following is, our leaders are.
Who is going to tell them enough is enough; our nurses and doctors and health scientist experts? Or the Airlines CEOs, restaurants CEOs, schools associations, Amazon CEO, Google CEO, Twitter CEO, WHO? ...China, Russia?

The article is just another article just telling like it is, an opinion, an observation, a good dose of reality on what is inevitable next coming up in two to four weeks and more ... August, September and October.

Depressive to me are the numbers going exponentially nuts through the roof, that is depressive because we all know what they mean for the near future and also in the long run. That, is depressive because the nurses and doctors will be fighting a losing war, and sacrificing theirs as well. We are eliminating our tomorrow's heroes, ...that is depressing.
We are sending our young docs and nurses to the meat grinder, that, is depressing.

And our kids @ school? We need new leaders, we need smart leaders, we need saviors.

That article is not depressing, I wish all the people from all the forums from all the Internets on the planet could read it and tell us what is more depressing; that article or the reality today and of tomorrow.

It's just an article, an opinion. Opinions don't have breath, they're just words, written or spoken by someone. Facts are real, facts breath, or don't breath anymore. True opinions come from real facts. It's not the opinion, not the article that is depressing, it's the actual reality that is happening right now. And it's so straight to the point that it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what's coming up next ...

Good info we can all use ...

The FDA just updated its list of hand sanitizers you should avoid to include products that contain the dangerous and deadly chemical methanol, adding five formulas made in Mexico and bringing the total to 59 products.

Well it’s been 4 months, we shut down businesses putting the economy through hell and it’s now July and I’m hearing that we’re breaking record numbers in new cases. Really very upsetting when you think about it. If I hear that other states are going down like NY is, I would feel a lot more at ease right now. No progress has been made in this country as a whole and that’s why I’m upset. I wasn’t expecting it to be over; but was expecting new cases to at least start going down by now. Given our current situation, we have a loooong way to go; much longer than 4 months.

But I agree with you. Very frustrating that people aren’t doing what they’re supposed to. And even more frustrating that we’re in a big mess right now and people still haven’t learned. Hearing Disney World reopening and seeing people lined up like that is enough to make me very furious. What’s people’s excuse? They can’t stay locked home forever and want to live a normal life again. Well yeah, had people done what they were supposed to, we would be back to normal life, or at least, close to it.

Maybe overall the Americans lack the discipline, the patience and the sacrifices it takes to be compassionate, understanding, aware?

It's too much to give up freedom for few months in order to gain more in few years?

This battle against covid has been compared to the worldwide cooperation and harnessing of resources that has been seen in the past in world wars. A major difference of course (especially in the modern usa) is that there appears to be much less of the "can do " toughness that was present in say , ww2.
By this time, 4 or 5 months in to that war, Japan was still chasing Allied forces from positions all over the Pacific and Germany was still the absolute dominant force in Europe, having rode roughshod over it the past few years.
It would not be until 6 months in that the us would triumph at Midway, but that would only be the start of the comeback. Complete victory would be still years off and hundreds of thousands of casualties into the future.
Of course, the position of the Usa then was total victory, no matter what it takes.
Perhaps why that was thought of as the "greatest generation" ?

Just saw a great quote:

It is a matter of how stupid the dimmest people can be. For a virus there are three fates
1) die with the host (person and disease in him both die)

2) die from the host (person's immune system fights off and kills the disease in him)

3) get passed from one host to the other. (1&2 are important for each virus cell but the virus continues thriving in someone else.

the longer we (humanity as a whole) keeps spreading it the longer it will take.

agree but there were a lot of hopeful people, even in this thread, that were convinced the spring heat will get rid of it. I know because there were a lot of times when I and others would bring up Australia or Singapore or other places that were crazy hot at the time.

My concern going forward is that anti-maskers:

will coalesce with anti-vaxers resulting in needless morbidity and mortality, not to mention prolonging the effects of the pandemic.

Covid-19 is caused by SARS-CoV-2 people don't magically get sick (or not) people get sick because someone with SARS-CoV-2 infected someone else who was healthy. The only way not to spread it is to make sure sick people don't get near or in contact with none sick people. The issue is that asymptomatic (or slightly sick) spread is very possible, so everyone that looks and acts healthy can be sick and spr4eading it.

the saddest thing is the only toughness this time around that is needed is for people to stay at home and post/read social media, watch TV and films, play video games , enjoy their favourite at home hobbies…. a lot of stuff that at any other time these same people would clamouring they would like to have more time to do them.

A lot of these people are not working.

A local Wal-Mart has been shut down due to CO-VID 19.

2 New Mexico restaurants, 1 of which is a pizza place (whut) are defying the governor's order to shut down tomorrow.
