Here in WV, our governor put in a mandatory mask wear.
Immediately after, he said there will be no penalty if not wearing one.
Way to go! Dude just pretty much said masks were optional!
I've been wearing one every day I go out.
Doesn't matter if it is 5 minutes or 5 hours.
I don't trust others to not get me sick!

The ONLY way to enforce mask wearing is to enforce mask wearing. If every person without one could get slapped with a fine, you'd see more idiots adhering to the rules.

The fine in TX is up to $250 for repeat violators of the new order. I have my doubts it will actually be enforced. Local governments are already saying they won’t enforce it.

Make it $400 for everybody at all times. That'll do it.

Yelp Says This Is How Many Restaurants Have Quietly Closed for Good

Quote:
It's no secret that the restaurant industry has been utterly devastated by the coronavirus pandemic and the resulting economic shutdown. But the question remains: Exactly how bad is it out there for your favorite dining establishments? Well, according to a new report from the user-generated review giant Yelp, it's perhaps worse than you previously thought.

Then why HAVE a goddamned fine if you're not going to enforce it?! That's like someone committing murder, but whining on social media so much they get let off Scott-free so as "not to make a scene".

I will also add it seems the last restaurant I worked at before La Posta has been so slow since they re-opened that they almost still seem to be closed. They've been open for over 20 years at that location, might be the end of the road for them.

I’ve been asking myself that since the Shelley Luther fiasco.

The fine is to appease those of us who want governments to take real action against those who refuse to wear masks.

A close friend of mine is a detective here in NYC. Back in March/April, we spoke (as sh!t was really hitting the fan). He (and many other cops) refused to write summons for people not wearing masks.

They were ordered.

They refused.

Nobody here wants to enforce it, guessing in part because they don't want idiots to get violent over wearing a mask.

Clearly the US is doing something wrong that other countries are doing right.

As COVID-19 Cases Surge, Fauci Says U.S. Is Still ‘Knee-Deep’ In First Wave

Quote:
During a live interview streamed on Facebook, Fauci noted that the U.S. is “still knee-deep in the first wave” of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I would say this would not be considered a wave. It was a surge, or resurgence of infections superimposed upon a baseline ... that really never got down to where we wanted to go,” Fauci told National Institutes of Health Director Francis Collins.

“If you look at the graphs from Europe — Europe, the European Union as an entity, it went up, and then came down to baseline,” he added.

“We went up, never came down to baseline, and now we’re surging back up. So it’s a serious situation that we have to address immediately.”

Force people to wear masks everywhere unless they are running. Either force gyms to make customers who are not running wear masks or shut those gyms down. Re-close hair and nail salons. I don't know what to do about restaurants but making sure everyone is wearing masks unless food and drink is going inside their mouths is a start.

This was posted above by LordoftheRings but I thought it was an interesting article so I'm quoting it:

https://thehill.com/opinion/healthca...le-seat-debate

COVID-19 and the absurd airplane middle seat debate

Quote:
Ultimately, the middle seat debate is absurd, because we can never achieve social distancing on a commercial aircraft. If we are going to define social distancing as six-feet of separation, then passengers seated in the same row in the aisle and window seat do not qualify, and those passengers on opposing aisles are much closer than the desired distance.

The only way to ensure proper social distancing on an airplane is to place only two passengers per row on every other row. This would allow the required six feet of separation, but it would also mean that a 737 that holds 155 passengers could accommodate only 39 paying customers. With the tens of millions of dollars that airlines are losing on a daily basis, this model will never be used.

Yeah, hair salons are not a great idea to visit right now. My girlfriend's mom went to one a couple weeks ago and I didn't like the idea but there was nothing I could do about it of course.

They took appointments, and didn't let anybody inside to wait - they were called in when it was their turn, like doctor's offices are doing. Still, it's not a great idea.

I have to visit my doctor next week. I hate the idea of going for no reason but my last physical was last year and my doctor refused to refill my monthly prescriptions now unless I go for my next physical next week. I argued with the office about that last week and they simply refuse to refill my prescriptions if I don't see them for my yearly checkup, which I think is a pretty lousy thing to do.

Oddly, they said they are only allowing healthy people in the office, not sick people. Talk about backwards. If you're sick they only do virtual visits.

I get people want their pretty nails and their hair cuts but if other countries can make sacrifices for the greater good, why can't the United States? Never mind don't answer that, I know why.

That's what I've been trying to say for the longest time, but I've gotten attacked numerous times in this thread for saying that. I don't understand why people like to bury their head in the sand and no one faces the facts that the U.S. is in deep trouble and our country needs to wake up. I've said it back in March and then in April; it's now July and things are worse than ever.

They've been closed for three months. How much longer should they be closed? Business owners still owe rent for the months they've been closed and no profit has been coming into the business.

They have to find the right balance as they weigh the cost of human life versus the cost of lost profit and employment.

Isn’t that what the phased reopening is doing?

Interesting how I preached exactly what you’re preaching now and got attacked to death for it. Oh my, how the tables have turned...
