Where are all those natural disaster movies in 4k? Isn't it weird we still haven't got The Day After Tomorrow, Twister, Armageddon, Deep Impact, 2012, Volcano, etc. These are goldmine for Dolby Atmos and HDR.

I know it’s too early, but James Gunn said The Suicide Squad is shooting in 8k and finishing in 4K, including FX: https://www.twitter.com/JamesGunn/st...65652562538499

Yes we’re finishing #TheSuicideSquad (and the VFX) in true 4K (as opposed to finishing in 2K and up-ressing for 4K releases, which is more common). It’s a colossal film which will more than make use of all this.

Most of Nolan's movies (up to 8K for the 15-perf IMAX stuff), Tomorrowland, Sully.

Exactly right. Note that none of the above movies had a 3D version...

count me as one of the few fans of 'Tomorrowland' - the IMAX-laser presentation I saw was visually astounding. As was 'Sully' for that matter, the 12-channel mix was simply superior over the Dolby Atmos mix.

And yet, Tomorrowland still isn't released in 4K.

It's a brilliant and underrated film that would look great in the format.

Pencil me in for a John Carter 4K as well. Another similarly underrated movie.

Looks great doesn't equal a guaranteed release, alas. Again, JC is with Disnee and again, they don't give a phuck about live action catalogue stuff if it's not Marvel or Star Wars.

a joke, and yet 90% 100% serious
more and more the few actual 4k DIs get only blu-ray at best and no UHD, it's a total joke

Ironically enough it's cheaper to master in 4K when you're making a smaller film as you're not spending millions on creating 101 different theatrical deliverables and don't have 3000 VFX shots to crunch in an ever-decreasing turnaround time. But the thing about those smaller films is that the studios may not feel they're all that viable for a physical UHD release, so the vicious circle of the 2K blockbusters being the primary focus of UHD keeps on going.

yeah it's not much of a cost for something without much effects to master in 4k at this point

but I mean is VS can put out dirt bike movies from the 80s on UHD, the studios can surely put out every new 4k DCP on UHD at the least! Surely say award winning, strong box office stuff like Little Women 2019 can get a freaking UHD

this is getting to be ridiculous, way worse than blu-ray days, they were not already skipping new releases on blu-ray for DVD or VHS only. It's just not a good sign when it's already that the new format is getting shafted for half the new releases. EVen major stuff like Beverly Hills cop doesn't even get UHD despite new 4k master and streaming getting it. Give the 4k to the people hwo don't give and job the physical media, great. How is UHD not already half dead when just a few years in even new theatrical releases, very major ones with big box office and awards no less can't even get on the new format? (on a side note why did Mr. Roger's get UHD but not LW when the former wasn't half as visually spectacular? if they simply had to do one or the other on UHD, what sense in this? less awards, less box office I think, less visual of a movie....)
