We are only 24 hours into the campaign and have already reached 77% of our goal. That is simply fantastic and to say that we are overwhelmed would be an understatement!

To show our appreciation, we’re going to fast track an upload of the 35mm nitrate test clip and plan to have that posted for you tomorrow.

Thank you very much to our wonderful backers and please help spread the news of this project and get us to $7500!

It's coming to Blu-ray from 3-D Film Archive.

Yes, indeed!

I only pledged $25. With my experience as a collector of older films, I have found very little (if any) differences between DVD's and Blu-ray's of these older films, especially under these conditions which all apply for me here:

1) Older 35mm half frame archival sources

2) Blu-ray's and DVD's taken from the same digital master

3) Played on a Blu-ray player with a 1080P "Smart" upconverter

4) Transferred to a display via HDMI

5) Using a hi def 1080 or 2160 display

Some of you may disagree, but it works for me! Looking forward to getting my copy ---- thanks Bob & Co.

You've done it!

Reaching our goal of $7500 in less than 29 hours is simply remarkable. On behalf of the entire 3-D Film Archive team, thank you VERY much!

AFRICA SCREAMS will finally be preserved and available in outstanding quality. Every single backer should feel quite proud for what they've done.

Please continue to share the campaign for potential backers that would like the various rewards that we've offered. Stay tuned for tomorrow's update to see a sample clip scanned from the original 35mm nitrate master!

It would be nice if WAC would release its own set now containing the remaining Abbott & Costello films, including Rio Rita, Abbott and Costello in Hollywood, Lost in a Harem, Abbott and Costello Meet Captain Kidd and Jack and the Beanstalk. I just ordered the Universal set from Amazon Canada for $101 shipped.

Really looking forward to seeing this restored Africa Screams. Can't believe you surpassed the goal basically a day after the announcement. I'm sure that doesn't happen all the time.

Completely missed the last 24 hours. Dumb question, this is in 3D right?

The only thing that says 3D about this release is the forum section and the 3DFA logo on it though, so it's easy to see why some would think this campaign is misleading without mentioning that it is in fact a 3D title.

Given how quickly we got to the goal, perhaps the stretch goal should be $80,000 for 3D conversion?

Jokes aside I think most of us around here are happy to contribute to anything the 3D film archive decides to turn it's hand to, given their reliable track record for doing a great job.

Congratulations on achieving the goal so fast. Regards, Phil.

This footage was scanned in 4K resolution from the composite nitrate 35mm fine grain master positive. There is some baked-in jitter on the raw scan from film shrinkage but that has been stabilized. We have not yet done image grading, dirt clean-up or audio sweetening. I wanted to share this clip ASAP and as you can see, the incredible quality of the original nitrate material speaks for itself!

Please continue to share our campaign. Extra funds that we raise will enable us to do additional restoration work on Africa Screams and pursue other licenses for future Abbott and Costello (and 3-D) restoration projects.

We'll be announcing some very cool stretch goals within the week. Thank you!

Any chance of some kind of 3-D inclusion on the disc Bob?

If we can raise another $564 (that’s selling 17 more Blu-rays) you’ll find out!
