Bob:
What will be the source for the 3D Blu of "Jivaro" ?

And, will it (possibly) make the release list for the end of this year ?

Bob, I hugely appreciate your assessment of Dangerous Mission. I think I have mentioned before in conversation how much I love that flick.

If no one minds, I will offer my personal Top 10 list of 1950s 3-D films. Maybe others would like to offer theirs as well:

1. House of Wax
2. Inferno
3. Miss Sadie Thompson
4. Dangerous Mission
5. Gog
6. Gorilla at Large
7. Those Redheads from Seattle
8. Revenge of the Creature
9. Kiss Me Kate
10. The Charge at Feather River

I hasten to add, the numbering here is almost arbitrary. Although House of Wax is squarely and immovably at the top of my list, my affection for Inferno is really only marginally greater than my great love for The Charge at Feather River. And there are other titles not mentioned here (including but not limited to The Maze, It Came from Outer Space, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Hondo and September Storm) that for me are absolutely indispensable.

We'll be working with the best available 35mm elements within our budget. I'm still not sure what they will be.

By the end of 2018? Sorry, I don't know.

To celebrate the arrival of The Maze this morning (I almost did a Tommy Rall somersault), here's my top 10:

1. House of Wax
2. Miss Sadie Thompson
3. Inferno
4. Kiss Me Kate
5. Gog
6. Those Redheads from Seattle
7. Dial M for Murder
8. It Came from Outer Space
9. Creature from the Black Lagoon
10. September Storm

As you've probably guessed, I've only seen the Golden Age titles available on blu-ray. Of those yet to be released in that format, these are red hot (like, Kathryn Grayson hot) on my wish list:

Second Chance
Gorilla at Large
Hondo
Jivaro
Dangerous Mission

For the moment, The Maze is my favorite 3-D movie of all time. I've watched it four full times already since receiving it. Last night, I was watching it a fifth time, but fell asleep with the 3-D glasses on. I also think The Maze boasts the best restoration of any classic 3-D movie on Blu-ray.

Even if the movie doesn't grab me, the stereo cinematography is always fascinating to watch. ARENA, DEVIL'S CANYON and HANNAH LEE come to mind.

Back when I was doing the work in dual-35mm, there was an enormous challenge to find any prints in 35mm. To actually locate and painstakingly recombine separated left/right pairs (replacing missing frames and re-syncing the prints) was a tremendous thrill and even though it was more than 20 years ago, that feeling is still with me.

One of the most shown dual-35mm prints I had was DANGEROUS MISSION. It was dye-transfer Technicolor and looked absolutely stunning. Audiences loved it and at 75 minutes, the film never wore out its welcome. With a great cast and the input of Irwin Allen (avalanche, forest fire, etc) the film was a lot of fun. I also ran INFERNO and MONEY FROM HOME quite often.

Right now, SANGAREE is both an enormous challenge (severe color fading in both sides) and an eye-opener. I never had the first act in 3-D, just reels 4 and 5. The stereo cinematography is in a word: outstanding. People will be knocked out when they see just how good this one looks on 3-D Blu-ray.

And I'm VERY much looking forward to working on JIVARO. With it's "lost treasure" story-line and the mysterious "Valley of the Winds" it is going to surprise and delight many people. It was never released in 3-D so it's one that I've only seen twice after a new left/right print was struck in 2006. That one will be a lot of fun bringing back to life.

Sorry if I didn't really answer your question but thanks for asking!

Will Sanagree be region free please Robert?

The following films are work-for-hire films for the 3-D Film Archive

Gog (MGM)
Those Redheads From Seattle (Paramount)
A*P*E (Independent)
It Came From Outer Space (Universal)
Cease Fire (Paramount)
The Maze (Paramount)
Sangaree (Paramount)
Jivaro (Paramount)
Flight to Tangier (Paramount)

The 3DFA don't have control over region coding of these films. As of today, only It Came From Outer Space (Both Universal and Kochmedia releases) is region-free. The rest are region A locked.

The following films are controlled by the 3DFA and are and will be region-free.

The Bubble
September Storm
The Mask
3-D Rarities
3-D Rarities II
The Stewardesses
Dragonfly Squadron
Bellboy and the Playgirls/Adam and Six Eves - Nudie Cutie Double-Feature

I'm another who has never seen a Golden Age 3D film in a theater, but from my collection at home, I'd go with:

1. It Came From Outer Space
2. Creature From the Black Lagoon
3. Inferno
4. The Maze
5. House of Wax
6. Gun Fury
7. Gog
8. Those Redheads From Seattle
9. The Mad Magician

I have Dial M For Murder, but haven't watched it yet. For some reason I keep putting that off, even though I'm a big Hitchcock fan.

I suspect both Sangaree and Jivaro will be jostling for position on my list when they're released; from what I've seen, both of those really appeal to me. And if and when we see Revenge of the Creature, I know that will be among my favorites.

Thanks for your answer.
Of course, I will ask in the future about "Flight to Tangier" -- 3 strip Technicolor.
That will be a story to tell.

Did I write that? Never mind. Freudian slip. Corrected the lists.

My favorite 3-D blurays are all 3-D Film Archive releases.

All the conversions and digital-era 3-D are a disappointment, compared to the real thing.

I wouldn’t go that far. I have thoroughly enjoyed some of the vintage titles but there are some cracking modern 3D transfers also. Gravity looked fantastic and 3D really added to the sense of depth and infinity. Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 looked delightful in 3D, as did titles like The Walk, Thor Rangorak and Doctor Strange.
