House of Wax sold out? ...I had not realised that. As much as I like films to remain available and in print, I'll take that as a positive sign.

If anyone missed out, the HMV-exclusive UK release is still available. I believe it's all the same region-free content, just different packaging.

I've reconciled myself to the reality that we probably aren't going to see every title restored in 3-D, but I'd be extremely disappointed if Phantom of the Rue Morgue never makes it.

I don't suppose Karl Malden has the following Vincent Price does, but he's one of those actors that everyone has probably seen in something, and is usually excellent, and the same is true of several others in the cast. I agree that it would probably do better than many other WB Archive releases.

I'd love to believe this, I very much hope you are right on this. It's refreshing to hear a note of optimism every once in a while. Regardless of any beneficial knock-on effects with WB or others, the Maze certainly deserves to be a big success for Kino.

As far as the "you know who" owned elements like Robot Monster, Hannah Lee, and Cat-Women of the Moon, I think you could be right. The owner won't even allow the film elements to be inspected, so there's no reason to believe they haven't gone vinegar.

I believe the WB 3-D titles will eventually see an appearance on 3-D Blu-Ray. WB is slowly reaching out to 3rd parties. Besides the upcoming Batman: The Animated Series TV blu-ray boxset, WHV has been noticeably absent distributing catalog titles. The Warner library is too large for WAC to do it all. The longer WHV stays absent from the catalog market, the more chance other third parties like KL and TT have to distribute some of them. Right now it's only Criterion and Shout Factory.

Sony and Paramount are already active in the 3rd party distribution market here and abroad. Although Sony is hesitant to allow 3rd parties to scan their library, that may change in the near future.

Phantom of the Rue Morgue is pretty good movie, but in 3-D I bet it's spectacular. I bought it on VHS back in the day, and every time I watched it I wished I'd see it in 3-D one day. The last time I watched it was on TCM. It's a movie that needs to be released on 3-D Blu-ray. It's a shame it hasn't happened yet. It's actually a crime.

Just about every movie I wanted to see in (proper) 3-D for most of my life has been released on 3-D Blu-ray. The only stragglers are Phantom, Gorilla at Large, Revenge of the Creature and Robot Monster.

Now, in recent years, other classic 3-D movies that I didn't know about have piqued my interest. These films have yet to be released on 3-D Blu-ray and I've never seen them before in any format. They include Second Chance and Hondo. Before my life expires, I'll either see those two movies in 3-D or I'll never see them. I will not watch them in 2-D. I am also very interested in seeing/owning on 3-D Blu-ray four specific animated features in 3-D - Hypnotic Hick, Lumber Jack-Rabbit, Popeye Ace of Space and the presently lost 3-D version of The Tell-Tale Heart, which I'm really hoping Bob uncovers someday.

Here's a thought..Fathom Events has had 1 night screenings of titles such as Labyrinth, North by Northwest, Monty Python's last stage show, Rifftrax events, operas, concerts, etc. They pony up the cost for one classic WB title (done by the 3D Film Archive). The night's proceeds from nationwide screenings pay for the work and WB gets the rights to issue the title on blu-ray....

yes, it's hard not to notice how rich the visuals are in Phantom and how well composed and choreographed it is for 3-D. So cruel that we are deprived of it!

But it's great that we've come as far as we have. There was a time when I would read about some of these films, and the fact that they were 'originally shown in 3-D' just seemed like historic trivia. I didn't think I would ever have the chance to view them in 3-D, and I couldn't have imagined how much more enjoyable that would be.

So much so that my interest has broadened beyond the kinds of movies that would typically be on my radar. I want to see as many of these as I can.

There may also be services that allow you to set up a virtual UK address and then forward your package to your actual location.

Oh, yeah, don't get me wrong - I want to see all of them, too. I own everything available right now, and I will continue to buy everything that's released. Looking forward to Jivaro and Sangaree and 3-D Rarities II. Really curious about the content on Rarities. Can't wait until that information is divulged.

Right now, I'm wondering about that Creature set. What the hell is going on?

They are working on it, that much is clear. We are all just waiting on an announcement.

If they do it as a set, and 3dFA did the master for "Revenge", which I believe they did, I hope that Universal will let 3dFA also do a corrective master on the first film. Otherwise, having no interest in the 3rd film, I'm willing to wait for a single release of "Revenge".

Bob made some statements on another forum last year indicating that they approached Universal about correcting issues with the first Creature film while they were working on ICFOS. Bob didn't mention if Universal turned down the offer or not, but my gut tells me they said no. At least at that time anyway. Situations can always change.

I note that Mill Creek released a DVD set of The William Castle Westerns Collection: Fastest Guns of the West, 8 Films on May 1. New scans, evidently and some good films included such as Masterson of Kansas (1954) which was the best of Castle's westerns.

Jesse James vs the Daltons (1954) is included, but no 3-D bluray for that title. What a wasted opportunity.

Fortunately I have the patience that comes with age. Already having the 3D version of "Lagoon" and no interest in a flat "Walks Among Us" (I already have and excellent DVD version), I can't justify spending that much scratch on "double dipping" just to get "Revenge". I'll wait.

If it's anything like Universal's previous bluray legacy collection sets, it won't be an exorbitant amount of scratch. I have several of them so far and the average price I paid for them was around $23. That's already less than I paid for any Twilight Time title, and comparable to what I might pay for a single film as a new release. You get an attractive slipcase and compact packaging that takes up about as much shelf space as a lot of individual releases. The other films will essentially be a bonus as far as I'm concerned.

Although I agree that they certainly should consider correcting the previous release. It would be the ideal opportunity for an upgrade, and probably the final word on the film. Those reverse-stereo shots never should have been approved. I don't think it had the intermission card either.

That's an 8 film set on 2 dvds. No one should expect much from Mill Creek. I mentioned on this in the Indicator thread, as there have been whisperings about Indicator doing a William Castle box set, and I'm hoping they can be persuaded into releasing his 3-D films as well. Indicator are more of a prestige label, so there's the hope that if they do it at all, they will do it right.

About a month or so ago, I sent an email to Indicator and suggested they release The Crawling Eye, aka The Trollenberg Terror, on Blu-ray. I received a response about a week later that stated it was something they'd look into. I really hope so, but I don't know if they can pry away the rights from Wade Williams.

Anyway, it'd be great if they release a William Castle box set. Indicator has become one of my favorite companies. I also hope they release some 3-D classics.

Yeah, if it ends up being that cheap, I'll probably go for the whole set. But we'll be talking about QUINTUPLE dipping! I have already have "Creature From the Black Lagoon" in anaglyph, flat DVD, field sequential and 3d Blu-ray.(LOL)
