Thank you very much for asking!

Any time spent preparing a comprehensive list of our upcoming projects will only take me away from the immediate task at hand: helping to make Sangaree look its very best.

I can say this much; posters and original artwork for all the upcoming projects that we have in the pipeline – and as of right now, there are about ten vintage 3-D films waiting to be restored – can be found on our website.

And that list keeps growing. Two more vintage titles were just added to the list earlier this week...

Ten!? That's a lot. I guess I'll have to scroll through the posters and original artwork for a while, and then come back on here and make wild, speculative statements, as well as reach some conjectures, about the aforementioned 10 titles.

Here's my speculative list of Bob's 10 3-D classics, as well as some conjecture with regard to the probability a certain film is actually part of the 10 and will eventually be released on 3-D Blu-ray.

01. SANGAREE (Probability - 100 Percent Guaranteed)
02. EL CORAZON Y LA ESPADA (Probability - 100 Percent Guaranteed)
03. JIVARO (Probability - 100 Percent Guaranteed)
04. BWANA DEVIL (Probability - 100 Percent Guaranteed)
05. I, THE JURY (Probability - 100 Percent Guaranteed)
06. WINGS OF THE HAWK (Probability - 100 Percent Guaranteed)
07. TAZA, SON OF COCHISE (Probability - 95 Percent Guaranteed)
08. FLIGHT TO TANGIER (Probability - 97 Percent Guaranteed)
09. THE GLASS WEB (Probability - 80 Percent Guaranteed)
10. THE DIAMOND WIZARD (Probability - 100 Percent Guaranteed)

I am intrigued by your list. One item however has me very curious. You ascribe a 100% guarantee to WINGS OF THE HAWK yet when many of us requested Universal to release it we were rebuffed saying it wasn't under consideration. Any specific reason for your optimism? Personally I would love it if it happened being a big fan of Budd Boetticher and Van Heflin.

No specific reason whatsoever. I live in an elaborate land of fantasy within in my own mind, and 70 percent of the list has no basis in reality. It's all wishful thinking, and most of the percentages ascribed have no basis in any scientific principles. In short, I'm simply passing the time while I wait for Revenge of the Creature.

Don't count on I, THE JURY.

A major Archive has taken it over and we are no longer involved.

I believe jimgk's list is based on whatever's not been kyboshed by Sony, Time/Warner, or Wade Williams (LOL). And while 3dFA is no longer involved in "Jury", that doesn't necessarily mean we won't get it eventually (though it might put its quality in question).

And when Bob says "Thank you very much for asking", he reminds me of Marshawn "Beast Mode" Lynch!(LOL)

They have secured a donation of $100K and the last I heard, they didn't think that was enough to restore one side, let alone both.

We can restore five 3-D features (both sides) for that kind of money.

In short: I'm NOT optimistic...

At this point I just don't understand how they (whoever they are) don't know of your reputation and fine work. Why they wouldn't involve the 3D Archive in such a project is very curious.

All of us here certainly are impressed with what you have been able to accomplish over the years.

Thank you so very much and please keep um coming.

Unfortunately, after six long years of working to make it happen and get it restored in 3-D, this one is no one longer in our hands.

Under our plan, it would have been restored in time to premiere at this year’s TCM festival which would have tied in with the centennial celebration for Mickey Spillane.

We also had a distributor lined up to release it on 3-D Blu-ray.

Sigh...

Thank you, it's always a bitter pill to swallow when you devote so much time and energy only to have the rug pulled out from under you.

I even invested $3K of my own money a few years ago to scan a pristine 35mm fine grain of one side that was beginning to deteriorate with vinegar syndrome. I had faith that we would do the work.

That being said, I'm very proud that our victories have greatly outweighed our losses.

A 100K donation for I, the Jury? Wow... Why on Earth would they want to spend over 5x your proposed budget? Sounds like what Warner Bros. did for House of Wax. I hope we get to see it eventually and that this archive is competent enough to align the stereo properly. Why everyone wouldn't hire the 3DFA to do their restorations is beyond me.

Now I'm just speaking as a layman who's completely ignorant of the industry, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

However, it would seem to me that:

1. A relatively small number of Golden Age 3D were ever made--around 50 or so?

2. They were mostly made in the 1950's, so the original technical experts of the day have most likely passed.

3. The 3D Film Archive folks have restored more of these films than any other single entity, working with elements that span the whole range of quality from terrible (Gog, Sangaree, etc.) to pristine (The Maze, I think)--and the results have overwhelmingly received great acclaim (particularly considering their budgets.)

Maybe I'm missing something, but logically, who can have more experience in this than the 3D Film Archive?

If this archive is a non-profit, then a "donation" would be tax deductable.

This archive has zero experience with a 3-D film restoration.

In fact, when I introduced them to the copyright holder, I was initially told we would handle the 3-D aspect of this project. A few weeks later, they claimed the funds they had secured did not include enough money to do it in 3-D and it was very unlikely the $100K would be sufficient to preserve both the left and right sides.

Very sad news. But, the ten more 3D titles makes up for it for me.
