I've just been quietly awaiting to see how this would all play out and while I was very surprised in the initial screenshots, if the transfer had cosultation from the DP and Savini claims its "fantastic" then that's enough for me to be content. Sure, it's vastly different than its DVD counterpart but I suppose it does give the film a new eerie quality about it. I wasn't the biggest fan of the film during my first watch of it but I'm curious to see how the film will play a second time for me with the transfer looking the way it does now.

This is literally this year’s Predator UHE. And once again, I find myself in the “It looks AWESOME” camp.

Last time, I determined that it was due to my equipment: on my old 37" 720p Olevia, the Predator UHE looked incredible; I considered it one of the best Blu-rays in my collection. When I upgraded to a 42" 1080p 120Hz, I finally saw the wax everyone was complaining about.

So now, we must conclude that my TV is not calibrated correctly, I honestly spent hours fiddling with the settings to get them where they are. (No, it is not set to Vivid or other such color boosting nonsense, Noise Reduction is OFF, sharpness is zero.) EVERYTHING looks awesome, not just Night of the Living Dead (1990). If the brightness and contrast just happen to be optimized for Night of the Living Dead (1990), then everything else should look overbrightened and washed out, which is absolutely not the case. Nor is Night of the Living Dead (1990) overly blue. What I see does not match the screenshots in the review. Yes, I totally see a darkened image after Barbara crashes the Mercedes into the tree, that I never saw before. It now looks like an ominously overcast day, not the middle of the night, nor the Solar Eclipse one guy exaggerated about.

Maybe Mr Savini and I got differently encoded Blu-rays from a different batch ? Not likely. Maybe both his and my TVs just luckily happen to be optimally calibrated for Night of the Living Dead (1990) ? If so, then everything else should look washed out and “not enough blue”. I don’t get it.

Afterall Romero approved the Miramax cropping butchery of a transfer for his Night of the Living dead, so nothing surprises me anymore

It's well-documented by fans everywhere who've met Tom that he's moody and $-oriented. I've had the pleasure of actually hanging out with both Tom and George for an extended period of time (NOT at a convention table), and Tom is most definitely very "tight"; his rep is well-deserved. Great make-up FX man, decent director and actor, but not a particularly happy nor nice fellow, much of the time. His "approval" of this transfer was only one of two things:

Either he saw it, and went "meh, it's okay", which TT have spun into "DIRECTOR-APPROVED TRANSFUH RIGHT HEAH, FOLKS, STEP UP AND GET ONE WHILE YA STILL CAN!"....or (and I believe this is true, knowing the parties involved), Tom was paid to say "meh, it's okay".......
[Show spoiler]which TT have spun into "DIRECTOR-APPROVED TRANSFUH RIGHT HEAH, FOLKS, STEP UP AND GET ONE WHILE YA STILL CAN!"....yeah, TT've let it be known at Facebook that they'll be selling the returned copies. That means there's at least 9 more left, people! Go get 'em.

I don't hate it as much as others 'round here, but I can absolutely understand the irritation with it. It's just my opinion*, but I think that NOTLD'90 (TT version) makes Predator UHE look like freakin' Lord of the Rings by comparison.

*opinion : mine is the one that should matter the most to me, and yours to you.

Not to be "that guy" but this statement means that they released Predator UHE edition again and it wasn't NOTLD '90

Did you not read his Facebook message to Patricia Tallman? What about his comment to Don May Jr?

BTW...my returned package arrives in the next few hours, judging by the tracking number updates.

Call TT if you want a copy at their price, and not a scalpers'....unless they've raised it.

He never said it looked the way he shot and released it. You're reading waaayyyy too much into the faint praise being tossed onto this bonfire. At this point, it's 100% damage control mode for TT. That's all that this is.

Had they not deleted each and every negative comment on their FB page, it would look much more like the comments on the YouTube comparison postings, and they are overwhelmingly negative.

Tom Savini is a hack director who got lucky on one film. People love the film.

For all we know he has his TV in blowtorch mode.

On any TV it's pretty obvious the Wax look is there. I even noticed it on a 19 inch screen!

This thread now have over 5000 post? It's time to let it go. The issue has been settled, and there is nothing else to say or do about it. It's done. Some people just don't know when to quit, and they are beating a dead horse... It don't make no sense!

And you're gonna sit there was a straight face and say you're NOT reading way too much into his comments? With your diatribe a few posts up the page?

Ah, I love you guys. Keep the comedy coming!

I'm still wondering when and how Savini got a copy. Over the weekend he apparently knew nothing of the release, but by Tuesday he has it and watched it the previous night (Monday).. So I wonder if he had one the whole time, or someone overnighted him one or what?
