What does Samsung need to fix on their displays? Does your Samsung peak out the Backlight and Contrast every time you watch a UHD disc? I have the JU7500 and I must turn my settings down when the movie starts (I turn them down when the menu is on and I still have to turn the settings down once the movie starts) because my Backlight jumps to 20 (I like it at 9) and Contrast jumps to 100 (I like it at 85). This high setting blows the picture out and is WAY too bright and looks awful for UHD.
And definitely Deep Color OFF.

Are you on the latest firmware?
Just read a UHD blu ray review of The Martian and even High Def Digest suggests turning the Deep Color ON when you see banding when the HDR is utilized.

Well I wouldn’t characterize 4K quite like that (in such a demeaning fashion)….perhaps I’ll do a follow-up post for another day as I must move on to see what other folks have said during my absence.

“I” stood for intensity value and the two C’s stood for the resulting color difference channels storing the chroma information. The original naming was meant to reference the IPT and Y’CbCr models that inspired the new color encoding model.

The goal was (by building on previous proven transformations) to co-optimize a color space for both HDR and WCG encoding efficiency as well as color volume mapping performance. The results of the work suggest this was accomplished with the materials and methodology used. For instance, fewer code values were needed for ICC as compared to Y’CbCr or Philips’s Y’’u’’v’’ model and ICC was found to be very robust without demonstrating typical drawbacks like hue-nonlinearity in the blues.

^ As an aside, the lead author (Jan) for the investigation into the above described new color space spoke on wide color gamut wrt D-Cinema at last year’s HPA, which included exhibition of his material by a Christie 3P 2D laser projection system which was onsite as hinted here (https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...0#post10370282 ) to readers of Blu-ray.com well before the final official schedule (to include that fact) was posted on the HPA website.

Jan in action from last year’s Tech retreat…

Apparently, Best Buy has first dibs to 4K Blu-Ray, according to this very site that says they were available at 2/14. I'm at Best Buy right now and I can't don't them. It's at Topanga, California.

That makes sense and after reading a bit about the IPT color space it does sound a lot better than YCbCr (or YDzDx) since it is based on human perception.

Shared my store's display here

Maybe they'll update to that in a few days? It is featured in their national ad, so I can't imagine any Best Buy NOT having something advertised so prominently by open time Sunday.
