on another note, due to all the gloom and doom here, online, media. here are some hopeful facts to ponder. seriously, makes you question why the news is not actively pushing these facts but the answer is easy to see. if people had the facts, they would be less vigilant in following procedures which ultimately affects the elderly and people with preexisting conditions (for the most part). basically, humans are selfish by nature and if they know the likelihood of being affected are very low, they will simply not care. scare tactics, spread fear and watch everyone get in line.
99% of Those Who Died From Virus Had Other Illness, Italy Says "The Rome-based institute has examined medical records of about 18% of the country’s coronavirus fatalities, finding that just three victims, or 0.8% of the total, had no previous pathology. Almost half of the victims suffered from at least three prior illnesses and about a fourth had either one or two previous conditions." "More than 75% had high blood pressure, about 35% had diabetes and a third suffered from heart disease." "The average age of those who’ve died from the virus in Italy is 79.5. As of March 17, 17 people under 50 had died from the disease. All of Italy’s victims under 40 have been males with serious existing medical conditions." https://www.bloomberg.com/tosv2.html...l0YWx5LXNheXM= for myself, i am worried about my children. i have heard that kids are basically not affected by all this. then i talk to friends who are hearing the opposite. so, here are some facts out of China to ease peoples minds with young children at home "The study examined 2,143 confirmed or suspected pediatric cases of the coronavirus in China, where the pandemic started, and is the largest analysis yet of the illness in children. For the most part, it confirms what doctors have already noticed: that the coronavirus seems to mostly be sparing children, for reasons that are not entirely understood." "Of the few children who do develop serious cases, those under 5 are the most at-risk, with infants under 1 year of age at the greatest danger, according to the study, which was published online in the journal Pediatrics. But even those types of cases were few and far between. A total of 94.1 percent of the children were either asymptomatic or had mild or moderate cases, and only 5.9 percent of them had critical or severe cases, significantly lower than the 18.5 percent of adult patients who fell into that category in China during the same time frame, according to the study authors. Just one child died of the illness in China: a 14-year-old boy in Hubei, the province where the outbreak originated. https://www.nbcnews.com/health/healt...worse-n1163001 |

P.S. ugh, that prestigous journal article ^ apparently requires a cookie too in order to be viewed vis-a-vis this forum. Give me a few moments and I’ll search for an easier to read layperson’s article from a news service for those without a medical background. Last edited by Penton-Man; 03-23-2020 at 07:36 PM. |

Nobody wanted the economy to collapse. But when the programs weren't in place to help mitigate the effects of this virus before it got here then we really don't have a choice. |

That's living proof on how serious this is. Our hospitals are maxed at capacity right now. People can keep looking at the numbers and be like "Oh it's only a 1% death rate. Not bad at all." But the fact that our hospitals are about to crash due to an overload of patients that need medical attention just goes to show how bad of a situation we're currently in.

“While the vast majority of young people are going to be fine, we’re seeing reports here and there of when this isn’t going to be the case,” said Hunter." reports "here and there" lol "The good news is that, according to Summer, “most people recover lung function at one year.” So any lung damage might not be permanent." so after all that info in the article, the end results remain the same. most will be fine |

Take yourself back to your senior year of high school. Suppose that, in mid-March, you were suddenly ordered to stay home for the rest of the year, and you realized that you would probably never spend time with your school friends in the same way ever again. No slow roll towards graduation. No parties in the weeks leading up to graduation. It's over. Your high school life as you knew it is over just like that. That sucks. My eldest niece is a high school senior now, and this has been dropped on her head as well. I moved to a new town with my family the summer before my own senior year in 1989, so my situation was a bit different than most, but I still would have missed those last few months. |

Cool, there's a drive-through testing site in Philadelphia. You have to be over 50 and showing symptoms, but a Doctor's referral is not required.

Still, as Great Owl suggested, there are those in today’s generation who gained life-long friends and had hoped to have an incredible senior year to cap it off before going their separate ways into adulthood, but all of those plans were cut off entirely (from the way it seems today). It’s a bit of a bummer, because what if it were you or your own kid in that situation? |
