Our upcoming disc will include the same content in the following formats (The warnings to the right of Dolby Vision and HDR10+ are only present if the display and player do not appear to support the format.)

The HDR/SDR is the 1,000 BT.2020 and 100 BT.709 versions. e.g. (Image is in PQ)

Since we are unable to mux HLG flagged as HLG, we flagged it as SDR BT.2020. If your display has a user option to force HLG, such as Sony, then you can see HLG too. It is also created from the 1,000 BT.2020 version.

The three x 4,000 versions are all hard clipped at 4,000 so you can visually see what went above it. Also, you can jump from one montage to another, while playing, and it will jump to roughly the same point. Makes it much easier to compare. There is one shot where you can see a visual difference between 2020, P3 in 2020 and 709 in 2020. Here is what the gamut of that shot looks like:

Ignore the look of the image above, it is what Transkoder uses to map a PQ image to a computer display. It is not THAT saturated in the SDR version.

During the Dolby Vision grade, trim passes were created for 2000, 1000, 600 and SDR 100. 2000 has very little done to it. I thought it would be fun to include those renders. This way if you don't have a Dolby Vision display, you can compare the HDR10 10,000 BT.2020 version on your display to the one closest to its capabilities and see if your tone mapping matches the artistic intent.

Colorfront Transkoder was used to create everything. Pixelogic encoded the two Dolby Vision versions. I encoded the rest in x265. Avg bitrate was around 90+ Mbps for everything that does not include an enhancement layer.

We hope to go to replication end of the week. We just received a verifier report from the Panasonic and Eclipse verifiers and its is good to go. We gave away several promo copies to the press this week. No montages, just the test patterns. Hopefully its out in May. BD100s take a little longer to replicate. We are using ~87 GBs. 14 GB for all of the test patterns. The rest of the space are the montage videos.

Does the current AVS administration have strong ties to Samsung? IMO, nothing really that wrong with it if they do, as long as they fully disclose to their readership such a sympatico affiliation essentially pandering to this or that consumer manufacturer, so their readers can take that into account when making purchasing decisions or judgements about certain marketing claims, etc. They sure promote IMAX enhanced stuff it seems whenever I visit their homepage.
Mr. Penton, I trust your smart judgement and I'm sure you can answer your own question without any help.

Here @ blu-ray dot com we are without bias and without pushing any agenda.
This is friendly informative territory here, and that's all it truly matters.

Yes he has. Should be an interesting comparison. Although he can use an Oppo as well. From what I've read, there may be issues with DV on the Panasonic player.

I’d say that was known as saturation bombing or “carpet bombing” (going back to Vietnam warspeak).

I should have use that term to describe the excessive, obsessesive, extremely irritating adds and video adds @ AVS forum store.

If you try French bread, camembert and brie, pâté de foie gras and French dry red wine, that bias towards pizza and beer will be all illusion.

Oh I know.

I was commenting that "add" is short for "addition".

Instead of "ad" for "advertisement".

Stephen Ferguson did the encoding for DV. I think Chris is working in another area, at least last time I spoke with him.

A few shots with flowers. Some red tulips, which were pretty amazing to see in real life at the annual tulip festival. Never seen red like that in real life before. An orchid and another flower.

Well I hope all you guys that clicked the ‘thank you’ button for Stacey put your money where your endorsement is and actually step up and purchase his (and the more publicly reclusive Don M.’s) disc.

It can’t be that expensive, given all the other stuff you guys buy for this hobby.
Meanwhile (as Stephen Colbert likes to say)…..

partnering with the boys from around the beltway (DC Color), the Dolby Vision tutorial series is just out – https://www.dolby.com/us/en/professi...al-series.html

(and unlike Geoff D, for those unfamiliar with regards to the licensing, see/listen starting at timestamp ~ 3min40sec)

Spears & Munsil 2nd Ed has been an indispensable aid in putting the many, many BD players I've bought through their paces and I've been waiting for the UHD equivalent for years, literally. It's going to be VERY expensive when it comes to getting hold of it in the UK, probably £50 or more, but I'll be there day 1.

Funny how one letter can make all the difference.

I had that before, as it was recommended by a nice fellow from AVS.
It worked, but it was still slow. Today no more problemo, I'm totally free...out of that site.
There is a highly technical French site where I'm active; super cool, and much more informative (no fake), and friendlier, very.

And for my HDR and Top Gun advanced knowledge; there is no better home than right here with Penton and the highly knowledgeable circle of video experts and enthusiasts. Plus this thread rocks with very high activity and out-of-this-world number of views every single day. It's the HDR Autobhan...super freeway.

In a Netflix press event, Greg Peters says out of 600 million devices watching Netflix, 125 million are HDR capable: https://variety.com/2019/digital/new...in-1203169528/

Quote:
Six-hundred unique devices access Netflix every month, according to Peters. And in February, out of those 600 million, 125 million were HDR-capable. “That’s an amazing adoption rate of a new video format that we are enabling by working both with the creative community and with our device partners,” Peters said.

In addition to embracing HDR for its own productions, the streaming service is also increasingly using Dolby Atmos to enable a theater-like in-home audio experience. “The sound of a movie is another character, is another performer in the show,” said “Lost in Space” showrunner and executive producer Zack Estrin, who argued that this was also true for shows without big soundscapes, like comedies. “If you feel the laughter around you as opposed to just on that wall, it feels like you are in the audience,” Estrin said.

I listened to a tweet (turning on the audio) on social media a day afterwards (3-24-2019) from a couple on their way to the airport commenting about the car and the intermittent bridge closure – https://twitter.com/search?q=%23topgun2&src=typd

Well, the KIA Optima certainly isn’t any high horsepower Audi, but it was a nice enough car to fit the intended role for the scene
