Thanks E6

I have a question for those who have the Z9D and a 4k player that gives you the option for setting the nits. I don't have my TV professionally calibrated but have gone onto YouTube to set my cinema pro and home modes based on professional advice. My player is a Cambridge CXUHD. What should I set the nit number to? It is set for 300 but I know the Z can go much higher. Is there a specific number you use? Thanks for your help.

The nits level relates to SDR conversion ONLY. It has zero effect when playing HDR content in HDR, which is what you should be doing (set HDR to AUTO).

Hey Guys,
I'm getting my Sony z9d 65inch set today. I am coming from a 65inch Sony x930e. Does anyone have any suggestions for settings or testing for defects(DSE, abnormal haloing, motion, banding, ect)? Also, what's the best content to test the black levels over the x930e? Thanks in advance.

Thanks a bunch. What do you think of the 65inch z9d? How long have you owned it? Motion issues? I'm not a gamer, but I watch a lot of fast-paced actions flicks(Baby Driver).

I hate to sound like a broken record here again, but since you asked. IMO the Z9D is still unrivaled and therefore still the best LCD out there.

I've owned my 65" since May 2017. No motion issues for me personally. I do game on it and watch fast paced action movies as well. The only thing I noticed, was some very faint trailing/smearing when a dark object moved in front of a white background. But those ocassions I can count on one hand, and to my eyes it's a blink-and-you-miss-it kind of thing. Apparently it is (more) noticable when the TV has just been turned on and while it is still cold. Our highly esteemed forum member Geoff D was the one who mentioned that. He can also tell you much more in depth about the 65Z9D on a technical level.

Only real negative thing I can think of, are its viewing angles. They are absolute the worst I have ever seen on any LCD. Picture quality degrades rapidly from a certain angle. Doesn't bother me one bit though, since I am of the opinion one needs to sit/lie dead center in front of a TV anyway.

The 930E is a fine TV but the Z9D is something else. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I own the Z9D and I'm always looking for a better TV upgrade. But so far, nothing has been found.

If I were looking today and did not own the Z9D, I would pick it over the new Z9F or any other set on the market.

I wish I had a $60,000 laying around. The 100" Z9D would look fantastic hanging on the wall.

Agreed with everything you said, including your 100Z9D comment.

On the other hand, perhaps we should be glad with how the Z9D turned out to be. I mean when was the last time a 2,5 years old TV was still relevant in the current market, let alone remained on top? Now that's true value for money I think...

You don't have to "think". It is a great value for the money as you stated.

I read somewhere that the Z9D was over engineered by Sony and probably won't happen again.

A few years ago, I purchased Samsung's 65" F8500 plasma which lasted a little over a year before it broke and was going to cost $800 to fix and then the cost of a pro-calibration making it to costly to repair. Gave it to Salvation Army.

Next was Samsung's new 78JS9500 $10,000 TV. Lasted a little over a year before starting to see a brown spot on the screen. Sold it to a neighbor, who is almost blind and didn't care about the spot. He wanted a BIG TV.

Next, the Sony Z9D. Still running strong, no problems, still nothing better. Yes, it is a great value for the money in my case.

ClassicR,
I too just got my set 1 month ago. I haven’t noticed any trailing, blooming, haloing yet. Although, I’ve only watched bits & pieces of football here & there and no gaming. The one thing I can comment on is the viewing angle. I did some reading about the degrading picture as you move around the set. I can confirm once you move out of the sweet spot (pretty much dead center) you lose a lot of PQ. What I did was I purchased a wall mount that allowed me to extend the furthest from the wall with the most tilt available. My sons love to watch their content while eating from the kitchen table. So, come dinner time, they’re able to angle and tilt away and have pretty much no degrading PQ when that happens. Other than that it’s been an awesome experience. I’m having a lot of fun learning what looks best on certain shows such as sdr content from cable, 4K streaming content from Netflix, and of course the real star is HDR/DV disc content when watching movies. Lots of fun and Lots of great, valuable information from the regulars here on this thread. I’m no expert but just from reading and implementing some of the guys tips and settings I haven’t even had to post one question on here at all! This is an excellent tv you’ve purchased and an equally excellent group on posters on here with a wealth of knowledge about this tv. Congrats on your purchase and hopefully we’ll see you around this thread.

Sounds like its an awesome set! I'm stoked. Any suggestions for settings or testing out defects? My x930e 65inch was a lemon. BB and Sony claim it was damaged since it was manufactured. I have these strange damaged anti-reflective marks on it. I just want to avoid any other problems like that and everyone says the x930e has just as good build quality as the x930e. Any suggestions?

Sony can come up with yet another over engineered LCD TV as far as I'm concerned. I'll gladly buy that sucka!

Just get the TV installed today and enjoy it, man. You're almost like hoping to find a defect There are no motion issues. Any tiny example that a tiny handful of people mentioned are very specific instances that you can find on ANY TV and you have to really look for it to find it.

Start with either Cinema Home or Cinema Pro defaults. Try out 10k's settings. I can post mine too.

Just watch a movie and enjoy it.

Sorry for the confusion. "10k" is someone's screen name on avsforum. He posted in-depth settings and measurements and you can find by clicking his signature. I'm on my mobile now and can copy later if you're not a member there.

Geoff also posted his settings a while ago, mostly similar just subtle preference differences.
