Last night I factory reset my 3 TVs then installed the Oreo update which provides much improved performance.

Even though my Z9D was fully calibrated with a 10 point calibration, it took me approximately 10 minutes to enter in all my settings for various picture modes, partially due to the improved UI performance of Oreo.

Neither, it is Nougat (Android 7.0) and the update from a couple months ago.

mutelight....did you try your Z9D with oreo before resetting and found it quicker and even quicker afterwards? I've always experienced uneven internet speed with the Z and hope oreo speeds things up in a consistent way. I'll probably do the reset but maybe not right away. Thanks for any comments

I factory reset all my TVs prior to updating them since I had used ADB to debloat them all so I can't comment on Oreo from an already configured TV going to the update vs. a factory reset.

That said, I see no need to run the debloat script on any of my displays as they are all are showing a nice boost in speed and there are some nice quality of life changes to hide Sony Shelf easily, etc.

However, time will tell to see if it slows down over time but initial impressions are positive.

Oreo update went well for me. I didn't do a factory reset. There is one issue that I cant seem to figure out and am hoping for some ideas.
Having trouble with onboard Vudu app. When I have an HDR or DV movie playing, it is in HDR. I get the DV badge and can see the brightness increase. I cant get to picture settings via the action menu. As soon as I go there, the video pauses and I am no longer in HDR/DV mode. I only have standard settings for "Apps". DV/HDR settings are inaccessible. I cant figure out how to get to the Vudu DV/HDR settings. Does anyone else see this or have a solution?*The other thing that is odd is Netflix, Prime, Youtube are "Apps (video)" and Vudu is just "Apps" which will use different settings than Apps (video). Is this correct or will Vudu use the DV/HDR settings that are set when using Netflix? I seem to recall they will each remember own settings? Is there any trick to making Vudu "Apps Video"?*Thanks

Does Z9D "Apps Video" description on Pic Mode screen provide HDR adjustments/tone mapping even tho HDR is not in the description.

What if Z9D "Apps" description appears on the PM screen. Without the HDR header.

Do both these on the Z9D result in awesome screen specular highlights, bright contrast, great bright and dark shadings?

On the Z9D Action menu Pic Mode screen the "HDR symbol" appears.

I believe the Z9D onBoard VUDU App brings up "App(video)" picture mode adjustment screen. And do not display HDR symbol? Is anyone here experiencing different??? Are you using any special Z9D activation settings? if you gotten the "HDR"

I use my Apple TV for Vudu but tried the built-in app and it is a bug and they will need to update the app.

When you start a movie it plays properly in HDR. The bug happens when you bring up the UI, it changes and drops out of the HDR mode. You can see it happen when you hit the UI as the video drops out then loads back in a SDR mode.

Im on Z9D Nougat (Android 7.0). From past FW. Guess from couple months ago.

Somethings changed???

I can't Chromecast Ultra HDR10 to my Z9D. Screen keeps flashing off and on.

I also can't play HDR10 disc from my LG UP970 or LG UBK90 to my Z9D. Z9D screen keeps flashing while in up970 Home menu or while playing HDR10 disc.

I gather this is a handshake issue with the Z9D.

Interesting. My Oppo 203 with Forced HDR setting plays HDR10 discs fine to my Z9D. No Flashing Z9D Screen.

Anyone experiencing problems like this?

Just got done watching “the dark tower” for like the 3rd time since I picked this up. This disc is absolutely stunning on my Z9D. Sounds like there’s lots of issues going around w/Internet updates, changing back & forth between modes. I really only watch on the weekends and I’ve been strictly watching discs from my x700. Sorry to read about all the issues.

I posted earlier thar scrolling with the remote(like thru picture mode settings) was very very slow. Like 40 seconds betweem PM selections.

Putting in a new quality battery had no effect.

For the fun of it... I put in Amazon's High Capacity rechargeable batteries.


The problem cleared up. Scrolling works normal now. Actually slightly faster for last week I deleted cashe, data Sony Shelf and Sony Select App. and doing forced app stop.

Since my OPPO 203 plays Disc onto the Z9D withOUT screen flashing on off. I decided to buy a new ChromeCast Ultra and attach it to the OPPO 203's HDMI In port. All worked fine. No Z9D screen flashing off/on.

I do feel the OPPO 203 does Sony TV's Handshake with higher finese.

Of cource Google Home did a FW Update to the new CCU.

HDR PQ is Magnificient with the CCU VUDU HDR10 sent to the Z9D.

On another day I did get lots Z9D screen static noise. This has gotta to be a Z9D Handshake issue(?).

OK. My successful Z9D experience.

To achieve stable Z9D handshake with CCU thru the AVR:

Turn everything off- CCU, AVR, Z9D. Wait.

Turn CCU on. Wait.
(CCU Attached to AVR "Game" HDMI port.)

Turn Z9D on. Switch to Z9D HDMI3/ARC. Wait.

Turn AVR ON. Having AVR "Game" HDMI port preSwitched before last receiver turn off may give better Z9D handshake(as a recommendation I would test this). CCU Openning screen should appear with very high PQ definition.

Click VUDU App on smartphone, tablet, etc.
Click Vudu Cast Icon.
Select Device Living room(or whatever you pre-named it)

Excellent PQ. No static screen noise. Very Stable no screen on/off.

CCU can be attached to any AVR full bandwith HDMI port. Mine was just on the "Game" port.

The above handshake protocol may work well with AppleTV, Roku, Amazon Fire. Thru the AVR to TV.

To get Preminum Sound, Atmos, Multi-Surround from VUDU, Netflix, Amazon Video, etc

My AVR used is the Onkyo Tx-Rz830.


Its such a Joy to stream HDR Movie with 5.1.4 Atmos.

The Z9D currently do not have the feature to eARC Atmos to an AVR.

CCU is inexpensive for outputting HDR and Atmos.

A few of my buddies have seen my Z9D in the living room numerous times and recently purchased one for themselves.

They all said, "it is so much better than I remember!".

It is funny how memory works, you remember it is really good and then you see it yourself. Same thing happens to me each time I fire up my Z and I've had it almost 2.5 years!
