That would not be unheard of, the earlier 4Kx2K Marvel Qdeo had undefeatable DNR, it was very modest but annoyed people.

Very cool Robert. Thanks for the update. I hope I was early enough on the list to be included in the first allocation. Very pumped to add this player to my projector setup.

Also not sure I said this before but the UB820 and UB9000 will support Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice control.

One of the video chips in the Oppo 103 and 105 (HDMI 1 Output).

"The BDP-103 and BDP-105 employ a two-step video processing approach that utilizes video processing algorithms implemented on the main dual-core SoC and the latest generation of Marvell’s Qdeo video processor. The HDMI 1 output is driven by the Qdeo video processor while the HDMI 2 output is direct from the main SoC. The main SoC performs video decoding, de-interlacing, scaling and 2D-to-3D conversion, and the Qdeo video processor can perform further enhancements such as noise reduction, contrast and color enhancements."

Panasonic players have always offered NR of more then one type. You could either find it and disable it or sometimes it was not possible similar to the Qdeo example I mentioned in the 93/95/103/105 Oppo players not in the later 103D/105D which went back to SI VRS variety. BTW Qdeo was used in lots of products, example AVR's.

In the UB820 example it has several noise reduction settings under picture setting.
Robert took pictures of his 820 showing this.

Whether it can be totally defeated is up to one of the owners here or Robert to determine.

Oppo is the grand master Jedi, with a light saber, Panasonic is just a Star Wars story from the Hollywood pro video laboratory.

Read something about 500, 1000, 1500 nits but hope that is wrong. If 500 is "OLED" in settings I can't imagine a 2018 c8 with over 800 nits map pretty good or?

Pre-ordered my UB820 today which I'm planning to hook up to a QLED I am thinking of purchasing next week. Already have the UB700 which I hooked up to my Samsung 4K LCD, however one stupid question, I'm planning to update the UB820's firmware so the player becomes multi-region for BD & DVD playback, will this update affect HDR10+/DV update when its released?

Same here. I purchased a UB900 remote for my UB700 earlier this year (not only for backlighting, but also for fastfowarding 60 seconds, studios logos are annoying) from two vendors, and they both arrived at the same time. Glad I never returned it, it'll be great for my new UB820

What's wrong with regionfreedom.com? Mate of mine used them for his player and it all worked out fine. Think he paid £10 for his firmware file.

That is the most weirdest thread I've ever read. Wow some people really are a nifty bunch? My friend wrote out his application on a Sunday, and he got the file the same night.

If you load the official new firmware over the hacked multiregion firmware then you will lose all the advanced MR features. You will need to apply a hacked version of the DV firmware update to keep the MR, and this will of course apply to any future firmware updates after that. I suggest you contact those lovely people at the aforementioned site to clarify this for you.

Cheers. Cancelling my pre-order. Going for the UB420, since I am buying a QLED and already have a Samsung TV at home, I doubt DV will be something I will be partaking in.
