For a few days now I have got problems with Netflix via the UB9004. HDR movies or series are no longer shown in HDR but only in UHD. Anybody else got this problem?

I've had the same problem for months, one minute I get HDR and ATMOS, the other HD and 5.1. I've converted SDR to HDR in the options and I'm getting HDR and ATMOS icons with my content, but I'm not sure how long that will last!

Mine does this all the time but hdr still kicks in when you select the movie/show.

apropos of nothing, I received a damaged UHD disc the other day and when I played it in my OPPO the player locked up completely when it reached the damaged portion (I'm not stupid enough to put a visibly cracked disc in there, the fault is a small indentation in the playing surface) while the Panny 420 glitched and skipped at the problem spot but still managed to play on past that point. I don't think I'm wrong in saying that the Pannys really do have more robust drives than the OPPOs.

Quite possible. The Oppo drive has to be a jack of all trades to also read SACDs so I really think that added versatility may hurt it in specific disc playback behavior. Not going to give a blanket agreement as certain disc playback can be firmware related. Oppo has a limited staff available now for firmware updates so I’m not expecting much from them now unfortunately.

Thanks. It does not kick in using my player. It is weird. Sometimes HDR is there and than again it is not. I will do a total reset tonight. Maybe that helps. Will keep you informed.

Yep. I caved in and ordered one on... Weds night? from Value Electronics.

Should be at my door this coming Wednesday. I'm excited to check it out.

Since you have both maybe you could do a little experiment for us. Cut a small triangle wedge from a piece of black vinyl tape (Scotch 33) and place it on a disc with the base (2 to 3 mm) of the wedge towards the outer edge of the disc. Now play the disc and see which player will play the longest before giving up.

It should be similar to the image but the apex should be much sharper.

No luck with that method either. It's very frustrating.

USPS delivered my UB9000 remote today that I ordered from a Spanish remote control shop. It arrived 18 days after my order was placed.

I purchased it from here. I was not charged for VAT when shipping to US, just the shipping charge:

Update: Gave the remote a good workout tonight. No issues. Works perfectly with my UB820.

I put a damaged disc in there but I'm not going to put one in with any foreign bodies on it.

I was having issues in the past week with a few discs on my Sony X800. All newly purchased Universal titles funnily enough. Darkest Hour, a Darkest Hour replacement disc (same problems) and The Purge: Anarchy. All mint looking discs, not a blemish in sight, latest firmware but they were glitching - freezing, pixelation and sometimes even skipping through a whole layer.

Throw those same problem discs into the Panny and they play perfectly. So i'm kinda digging the 820 at the moment.

About to pull the trigger. Just so I understand as an LG OLED owner, when I use the HDR optimizer I want to to turn off the Active HDR on the TV right? And let the player donthe tone mapping?

Can anybody helpme please? I want an inexpensive Panasonic UHD BD player with its HCX processor that seems to be a beast and video processing and optimizing, I need two HDMI outputs as my A/V receiver has 4K passthrough but is not HDCP2.2 enabled, one HDMI out would be for audio.
I've find what I may be looking for, the Panasonic DP-UB391EBK. It's HDMI and optical outs only but I don't need any analog outs.
Is this player good for what I want? Does it have the HDR Optimizer?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

All the current-gen Panny players share the same video chip, but you'll find more features locked out by firmware the lower down the ladder you go. The 391 is very basic, it's got two HDMI outs but doesn't have the Optimiser or HDR10+. The 420 adds the Optimiser and HDR10+, and for the money I paid (£120 English pounds) it's a bargain.

That depends. I have experimented with this using the ub9004 and my LG 77c8. Turning off tonemapping in the TV and turning on the HDR optimizer in the Panna results in a less brighter picture. Do not get me wrong I think the optimizer does excellent work.

It is very unpleasant that the HDR function within the Netflix app fails to work. It did in the beginning but now every time it disappears. I tried to switch on Dolby Vision within the menu of the Panna. That resulted in all series being shown in ' Dolby Vision' so not only the ones that are indeed DV but also series that are not. This is a serious bug that needs to be addressed. It works fine when using the Amazon Prime app.

I have an OLED65C and after experimenting, I prefer to use them both. As Bigbro stated, I think the picture is a little brighter when using both in tandem.

From the limited testing I've done with the UB820 and UB9000 connected to LG's 2018 OLED TVs I've gotten better results with the HDR Optimizer set to OLED and turned on and I also enabled the Active HDR on the LG OLED.

All of my UB9000s are being used in our theater demo room so I can't test them on an OLED until next week. We're hosting a JVC NX9 projector pared with Panasonic's UB9000 to demonstrate their collaboration to deliver the best possible 4K HDR images.

Thanks for the advice. Where did you get the 420 at this price? I'd like one for 120 GBP if they ship it to Spain. I'm thinking about doing a fast trip to Gibraltar, it's at an hour and half driving from home and I may find the 420 at a low price without paying any shipping.
But I'd appreciate if you could tell me where you got the 420 at such a low price.
