The DP-UB820 can play both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision while the DP-UB420 only plays HDR10+. However, both models feature Panasonic's unique HDR Optimizer system to boost the quality of discs encoded in the basic HDR10.

Panasonic's UB9000, UB820 and UB420 sale ends Monday, November 30.
These prices, $899.99, $349.99 and $149.99 will not be this low for the foreseeable future. |

From what I'm told no new Panasonic BD models are planned for the near future. I am working on a few firmware updates again and hope to see them by Q1 2021.

Any firmware updates regarding the HDR Optimizer?? I love the Optimizer already but would love it see it have more options for us. In other words, it would be nice for us to pick the highest nit value of the TV's limit to tone map and then the Optimizer can pick it up from there.

This has been dragging on for far too long, I understand there's a global crisis and whatever but I'm verr disappoint in Panasonic for not doing anything about it, and it's making using DV with the Pannys a bit of a crapshoot. That's not what we'd expect from a premium product, and that they're not planning on making any new players (whereupon the 'fix' is usually embedded into them) makes it doubly important that they sort the problems with their extant ones. |

You are going to love it! Once you get your settings properly put into the player and your TV is set, the picture quality will blow you away. Never had a better player in my life!

I'm no expert but it might require a drastic overhaul of the way the Optimiser works, at least as far as the front end is concerned, and I'm not sure there's the will there for such a deep dive into the workings of it.

I believe the HDR Optimizer is tunable in the processor.
