Very true. At the time I thought it was a good idea but as they say, hindsight is 20/20.
So if anyone wants to part with an oppo on the cheap I'm willing to take the old clunker off your hands to save you the trouble of having to throw it out ![]() |

I don't have the disc myself but apparently at about the 55 minute mark it pixilates briefly. One person tried it with DV both on and off and had issues either way. So far only Panasonic players seem to be having the issue. Not sure if it is happening at other times in the movie.

One thing I will say is my OPPO was not perfick either, it had intermittent problems with the 2nd layer change on triple-layer discs. I sent to to OPPO and they swapped out the drive apparently. That was 2 and a half years ago and since then I’ve had one single glitch on a triple layer title. But then it’s not really unit-specific problems that are being referenced here with the Pannys, these are repeatable problems with disc authoring that are being relayed by several different people.

I don't have any currently but does anyone know if the Stop-Start trick works on all Region B discs or just sometimes? There are a few Region B discs out there that I'd like to have but really don't want to do a custom firmware or get a region free player.

With all these DV issues and the current price it prob makes more sense to get the 420 for HDR10 and get a x800m2 for DV if you have room.

Which is why I never parted with my Oppo after getting a Panasonic. The Oppo plays everything pretty much.
If you are connected to your network go into settings and check and see if it needs a firmware update. If it does update it. If it says your up to date than you have the latest firmware on your player. |

Not defending anything, but please also understand that some of the requests either cannot be fixed with firmware as the chip set is not capable and in other cases some items just don't have the approval of the legal department, like playing advanced audio formats on ripped Blu-ray discs that do not have the HDCP copy-write protection flag in the ripped content. I do wish they would address the few items that are fixable with a firmware update and I'll never stop asking. |

At what point does Panasonic or the retailers selling these players have to take responsibility for continuing to sell a product that has known defects? I know the issues aren't life or death but the players have a feature, Dolby Vision, that is defective and Panasonic can fix via an update provided by Dolby. Panasonic is more than happy to promote the DV capabilities and charge a premium over the 420 player for a broken feature. This isn't a feature request like removing the 20 minute off timer, it's actually defective. Retailers sure aren't telling prospective buyers that DV doesn't work on at least a half dozen movies and counting. My understanding is that Value Electronics is a high-volume retailer for Panasonic with a long-standing business relationship. I would think at some point it would go from politely asking Panasonic "please fix this" to "fix the defects now as they are hurting our reputation as a high-end AV retailer." |
