Do you think that update is worth it if I don't have DV? Don't want to pay another 20 € for nothing (as already paid before)...

Contacted twice now asking about it with no response…
Had it previously. Maybe I just live without region unlocking. Don’t have many bluray from regions outside my region…

Haven't noticed any changes, the one disc that didn't work still glitches.

Wouldn't kill Panasonic to say what they've actually fixed and the affected discs that should now work. I'm not going to hold it against them if they've had an issue and fixed it. That a thumbs up from me!

It was Vertigo (DE pressing). Goes glitchy at a layer change and usually knocks out the audio. It got a second pressing, so I assume it's faulty.

I got firmware from them years ago for my BDT-A110. I wouldn’t continually bother him. He seems rather touchy. If he accepted your input and payment he’ll get to you. He has to create a unique build for everyone that requests it due to it being tied to your players MAC address.

Do you guys think my hdmi cable could affect the picture quality on some of the discs? I do still experience some flickering on standard blurays. It’s not super noticeable but it’s definitely a bit annoying. What I’m asking is if I should spend a little bit extra for a more high end cable? Thanks in advance guys.

Not necessarily high end cable but good known cable.

Flickering is usually not a result of cables. Sparklies which is very similar to what was a poorly tuned/weak TV signal in the analog days is usually how a bad cable manifests itself. They manifest as little dancing colored specks especially noticeable in dark images. Heavily pixelated images that cut in and out is usually what it becomes if you are just on the edge of cable’s capability.

I wouldn’t sink a bunch of money in cables unless you’re getting sparklies and dropouts. You might want to try different viewing modes to see if it minimizes the flickering effect.

That's the design Panasonic has always used on their (Ultra HD) Blu-ray player remotes, even dating back to the DMP-BD10!

Sparklies can be caused by cable issues, broken images (like your digital TV signal is breaking up) can be caused by the discs themselves (a fingerprint can bring a disc to a standstill).

Pick up a certified Monoprice lead unless you're unplugging the devices constantly or need a super long length.

Other causes are too much post processing and having the sharpness ramped up.

Hello everyone..I'm encountering a problem w/my 820. The disc tray will not close via the open/close button on the remote. If I cut the player off w/tray extended it closes fine, but I can not close it w/out powering the player down. Any ideas?

Ya I'm kinda annoyed, I reached out too Saturday and still no word back. I really want the patched update though as I do have a few region B discs. I didn't understand what update code they were talking about, do you happen to know what that is or where to get it?

*edit - that was my bad, I forgot you had to click a link after submitting the form to verify it, so once I did that they were quick to respond, paid 20 euro and got the update. I had a little scare though, as I was flashing it I thought it was done, and I removed the USB drive then it started flashing more stuff and I thought I screwed it up. I put the drive back in, powered it off and on and it updated successfully and I have my region free back!

My tray has always been half responsive to open/close, both on the remote and on the unit. I probably should have returned it right away but it was out of stock everywhere. Works great otherwise, at least. I just give the tray a nudge with my thumb and it goes back in. Not an elegant solution, but I've been doing it for over two years with no damage to the player.

The thinking I read was that maybe the player trying to connect to the internet could cause a freeze. But why a player would try to connect during a movie I can't imagine and never saw any explanation for that...
I can't vouch for that with this specific player...but years ago when I would occasionally use my Xbox for basic Bluray playback, I had to keep BD-Live turned off in order to prevent problems like that from arising. So it's definitely possible.

Has anyone tried to install the firmware update for US players via USB? In the update instructions it says that the size of the file should be exactly the same as the size listed on the download page. Now the download page says that the size file is 184,241,187 bytes but when I press properties on the downloaded file it says the size is 184,184,880 bytes!!! I tried to dowload it again but still the sizes don't match so I am very hesitant of installing the update. Any ideas?

Have you extract the file after you download it. Once you unzip the file then you can measure its size.
