It's such a strange problem that it only happens with Bd-66 4K discs. Not a single failure on dozens of BD-100 discs.

Just to reiterate..do you have the 1.69 firmware update installed? It addresses Dolby Vision play issues & perhaps other disc problems. It fixed my pixelation stuff.

Anyone got a clue why my 820 is playing up it was working fine last night went to finish of halloween and it's gone like this I've switched off removed the Hdmi wire and nothing

The player menu works fine but has soon as you starting up a disk it goes like it.

Have you unplugged, leave it off for several minutes and power it back again?

Also do you put your player on top of the receiver or anywhere warm?

Powered off or plugged-off? Try plugging it off (not just powering off)

Hope it helps

I've had handshake or HDCP issues with that screen, unplugging everything and waiting a while often resolved the issue.

Edit: Looks like you resolved it.

I have one myself, though like most remotes on eBay it's probably a near-exact copy instead of true OEM. The only thing it doesn't handle from my 820 remote is TV controls; I assume they copied an earlier version of the chipset & didn't pick up the codes used by my Vizio TV.

I'm pretty sure they're original if they say Panasonic at the bottom. If you want an original UB9000 remote, they're obviously not cheap.

My favorite extra function from those European remotes is the 10 second rewind. A huge time saver when you miss a line and need to hear it again.

That was one of the things that I was excited about, but the 820, I feel, is too slow for it to be a truly useful function. The subtitle button is the bees knees, though.

Dropped my UB9000 off at Best Buy yesterday for Geek Squad extended warranty repair. I have previously posted that my player would pixelate, freeze, or skip with about 15% of my 4K BD-66 collection. No issues with BD-100 or regular Blu-rays (BD-25 & BD-50). All the discs that had issues, played flawlessly in my Oppo 203. The guy at BB Geek Squad agreed it was more than likely the drive and noted that in the ticket.

Note that I have been running firmware V1.69 since I got the player and upgraded the firmware. I have also done a soft reset, retains settings, and a full factory reset.

The player is being sent to NY and they assured me that they only use Panasonic parts and an authorized tech will repair it. If the same issue happens two more times, they will send me a brand new player and 'junk' mine.

Hoping for the best. This is the first time I have used their Geek Squad extended warranty service for home theater equipment.

Good luck! I finally got frustrated enough with mine that I took it in to Geek Squad and was informed that they couldn’t find the warranty in their system even though it says it’s still covered on the website. Called CS and was transferred to finance and they couldn’t even find the item purchase in their records. WTF?

Not the first time I’ve dealt with their record keeping being shit this year: they completely lost an e-bike while it was en route and had to manually refund the money after it was supposedly “delivered”. That took several weeks and many visits to the store to get resolved. I have a good relationship with a guy who works at my local store and I’d probably be giving up on the company if it wasn’t for him. Lucky he’s still there too as they recently fired half the store’s employees and Geek Squad techs.

Received my UB820 (Region Free) today. It's a thing of beauty! I tested out the external subs feature but the font is terrible with this dark blueish border with white text. I clicked on the style option to see if i could change it but no dice. Anyone know if it's possible to change or is that the only choice?

I tried to play my Creature From The Black Lagoon blu-ray on my Panasonic 820 tonight and it could not connect to Universal to authenticate it. My player is connected to the internet and connects to other apps. Played fine on my Phillips player without an internet connection. So I power cycled my Panasonic and tried again. It took about five minutes of trying to connect to Universal and finally connected. Is this normal? Is there a setting I can change to bypass Universal authentication? Thought I was gonna have to double dip and get the 4K release to replace my blu-ray disc. Is this a sign that my player is failing?

Not sure if it's trying to authenticate anything, I'd imagine it's trying to load web content that's no longer there.

There should be an option to turn off discs connecting to the internet without permission, there really no need for them to do so. If studios actively did anything with the services, perhaps, but they don't really care. Imagine they could be sending new trailers and commercials our way before our movie starts!
