I only upgrade mine to accept 220v as input
NB: I am still using a transformer even I upgraded my power supply capacitor from 250v 100mf to 450v 100mf
Did you upgrade the clock?

It really is the luck of the draw. My 820 would glitch on the tiniest spec of dust let alone small scratch on disc. My 420 has been the opposite and very robust in this regard.

None of these players are really high end imo, they are midrange and the 9000 is obviously overpriced same with the 820. I still remember how nice Pioneer Elite players were.

Most people only complain when they have something to complain about.

The UHD format is much more susceptible to read errors because the capacity is pushing the limits of what’s physically possible. Blu-rays and DVDs are much more forgiving.

My issue is with BDs, not UHDs. Fortunately I have the Oppo 203 hooked up as well.

Well, mine wasn't as well packaged but I guess that's Amazon for ya. No protective film on it either.

Not sure if it's normal, but the light-up stays on only for 5 seconds after pressing the button.

Mine is not broken, but I may try to upgrade the PSU alone with the clk. Where did you buy the caps at? They are pretty hard to fine the ones he recommends.

i bought them from amazon

https://www.amazon.com/pcs-Nichicon-...73Z2M3K1&psc=1

as for the main capacitor to accept 220v
https://www.amazon.com/Cermant-Capac...31&sr=1-3&th=1

concerning the clock no single idea just upgraded my power supply and nothing else.

https://www.amazon.com/pcs-Nichicon-...09&sr=1-4&th=1

nichicon fw to PSU? very strange idea, you should use low esr caps and btw org elna it is 120C temp not 85C. Very good will be Panasonic FM FR, 400-450 Nichicon KX or Panasonic EE or Cermant.

Also good idea is add 2x Wima 2x MKS2 1U/63 and change Diode to 2x MUR420G 3A

i am not an expertise in electronics just a hobby with some experience in soldering.

Once i broke my UB820 , made my mind to fix it so i disassemble and remove completely the board of the power supply. My capacitor was broken and with the help of multimeter the main fuse is broken too. i bought the capacitors as mentioned including the fuse. i Changed them and successfully my UB820 is working again.

Sorry no idea about nichicon fw caps ...

That's how I feel and what ultimately led to me just returning it and going back to my Sony player. I got the 820 expecting an upgrade over the Sony. It did play UHD's very well but if I'm being honest I don't know if I could actually tell a difference between the two players in my viewing conditions. For my set up paying double the price for the player isn't worth it.

That's why I'm very surprised my 820 already had issues with multiple BDs and DVDs in the first few weeks. That didn't leave me with a lot of trust in the player long term.

Yep
UB424
Nichikon KX 400V 100uf
Panasonic FM 3x 1000uf + Wima 2x MKS2 1U/63
Diode to 2x MUR420G

UB824
Panasonic EE 67uf 450V
Panasonic FR 2X1900uf + Wima 2x MKS2 1U/63
Diode to 2x MUR420G

They both play great, UB424 small but crazy...
Very nice!! I'll do mine soon, when I find the time. Do you have a picture of your finished ub824??

Jae H. Lee used much big caps for the ub820. What's the reason you went the ones you selected?
