I'm sorry, do you mean that every single triple layer disc you've tried so far on your new modded 820 has failed to play properly, when they used to work smoothly with your previous player, or is it that every 100GB disc you have tested on your new player so far has run smoothly without skips or fails?

LOL, oops, good catch, corrected.

Yes, all my 100GB discs are working excellent.

I like to use the presets 'Natural' or 'Light' Environment for some discs, mostly the Disney marvel movies that are dim

I just bought myself a DP-UB820, thinking it would be a high-end player like many have said, but I didn’t expect it to take two or three seconds to skip chapters. I don’t understand why it does. Even the Sony UBP-X700 is faster at skipping chapters. Is there also a way to get rid of that “now reading” window every time I play a disc?

You can also go into the HDR Options menu and use the Dynamic Range Adjustment slider to get better brightness/contrast out of every disc. Those options you use are just presets and the slider allows you to adjust it to fit your TV.

It works really great. Beetlejuice is another one where HDR is just a bit too dim, so I just set HDR Dynamic Range setting to +6 and it seems spot on.

This player is such a huge step up from my PS5.

- Dolby Vision support

- HDR10 Dynamic Range slider to brighten up the average picture level for really dim HDR10 discs.

- HDR Optimizer to bring down the super bright highlights to match your displays peak highlight output to reduce blown out highlights. This is vastly superior than using Dyanamic Tone Mapping.

Not a cheap device, especially a region free version, but worth it. Now just gotta wait till the end of the month to upgrade to an LG G4 and get even more out of the player.

You might well find that a newerer, betterer TV has a lot more impact on "really dim" discs than the player does.

Yeah, I assume the G4's improved brightness over my C1 will mean I can dial back the HDR Dynamic range setting.

Basic and High Luminance Projector settings are exclusive to the UB9000 and the patched firmware.
Ive got the Rattlebyte mod on my UB820. Hence, it gives me the Basic/High Luminance projector options.

You could also use thee Dynamic Tone Mapping on the G4 as they have improved upon that since the C1. You may have to dial it down like me, but not as much.

You have probably already talked about it, I am an owner of Ub420, I would like to understand if by buying ub820 this has higher quality reading discs?

Can't remember such a delay when skipping chapters, are you trying to multiple chapters in one go with a 4K disc.

I think there's an option to turn off some notifications in the menu.

It could go either way.

Alright I'm about ready to replace my UB820.. I've had a bunch of issues with playback of regular blu-rays and now last night the new "Blue Velvet" 4K glitches up and refused to play just after 9min in towards the end of the morgue scene. All of the discs I've had playback issues with played fine on my LG UP870 4K player.

What's a comparable player or better player than the UB820 that is readily available for purchase? I always heard about OPPO players but as far as I know you can't get them anymore?

UB9000

Oppo was nice because it played everything and had a fast/snappy UI, however the Panasonic's picture quality, upscaling, and chroma sampling was better IMO. I'm not the biggest fan of the Reavon and Magnatar offerings...they're cheap lightweight clones but sold as premium top of the line players.

If you don't want to spend $1k for UB9000, and another 820 is out of the picture, you might as well just go for a Sony X800M2 but you'd have to deal with manual toggle for Dolby Vision.

With how erratic my UB820 is I'm not sure I'm gonna go for another Panasonic product anytime soon. I may just stick it out with my LG for another year or two and wait for something better to come onto the market. I really don't know, I've only had the Panasonic since November/December 2023 and it was great at first but it's quickly becoming a major disappointment and waste of money.

Man I'm so glad I went with the 9000 instead of the 820. The consistent issues with this player I've been reading lately is crazy. Why does that player seem to have so many issues but not the 9000?

I don't know, but at this point I'm about ready to do away with the player all together. I'm gonna watch the new "Ghoulies 2" 4K tonight and see how it goes. To me there's nothing worse than starting a movie, getting into it and then boom it glitches up and you can't continue the film and you've gotta eject the disc and switch to another player.. it's incredibly annoying to me.

There was a recent firmware update and I was hoping that would've corrected these issues I've been having but no it hasn't.

It doesn't, but people who have issues are more likely to post than those that have a perfectly working machine.

The UB9000 is substantially more expensive than the 820, so way less people own in, resulting in fewer complaints. While the build quality on the 9000 is better, the "guts" are more or less identical to the 820, so playback issues are just as likely to happen on that model as well. Given how these machines are mostly made to be replaced, not repaired, it can be a lot more frustrating if you eventually do run into problems on a UB9000.

I'm certainly concerned. Almost feels like a racket.
