I'm sorry, do you mean that every single triple layer disc you've tried so far on your new modded 820 has failed to play properly, when they used to work smoothly with your previous player, or is it that every 100GB disc you have tested on your new player so far has run smoothly without skips or fails?

I just bought myself a DP-UB820, thinking it would be a high-end player like many have said, but I didn’t expect it to take two or three seconds to skip chapters. I don’t understand why it does. Even the Sony UBP-X700 is faster at skipping chapters. Is there also a way to get rid of that “now reading” window every time I play a disc?

You can also go into the HDR Options menu and use the Dynamic Range Adjustment slider to get better brightness/contrast out of every disc. Those options you use are just presets and the slider allows you to adjust it to fit your TV.

This player is such a huge step up from my PS5. - Dolby Vision support - HDR10 Dynamic Range slider to brighten up the average picture level for really dim HDR10 discs. - HDR Optimizer to bring down the super bright highlights to match your displays peak highlight output to reduce blown out highlights. This is vastly superior than using Dyanamic Tone Mapping. Not a cheap device, especially a region free version, but worth it. Now just gotta wait till the end of the month to upgrade to an LG G4 and get even more out of the player. Last edited by emgesp; 07-01-2024 at 09:43 PM. |

You could also use thee Dynamic Tone Mapping on the G4 as they have improved upon that since the C1. You may have to dial it down like me, but not as much.

I think there's an option to turn off some notifications in the menu. It could go either way. |

Alright I'm about ready to replace my UB820.. I've had a bunch of issues with playback of regular blu-rays and now last night the new "Blue Velvet" 4K glitches up and refused to play just after 9min in towards the end of the morgue scene. All of the discs I've had playback issues with played fine on my LG UP870 4K player.
What's a comparable player or better player than the UB820 that is readily available for purchase? I always heard about OPPO players but as far as I know you can't get them anymore? |

![]() Oppo was nice because it played everything and had a fast/snappy UI, however the Panasonic's picture quality, upscaling, and chroma sampling was better IMO. I'm not the biggest fan of the Reavon and Magnatar offerings...they're cheap lightweight clones but sold as premium top of the line players. If you don't want to spend $1k for UB9000, and another 820 is out of the picture, you might as well just go for a Sony X800M2 but you'd have to deal with manual toggle for Dolby Vision. |

There was a recent firmware update and I was hoping that would've corrected these issues I've been having but no it hasn't. |

The UB9000 is substantially more expensive than the 820, so way less people own in, resulting in fewer complaints. While the build quality on the 9000 is better, the "guts" are more or less identical to the 820, so playback issues are just as likely to happen on that model as well. Given how these machines are mostly made to be replaced, not repaired, it can be a lot more frustrating if you eventually do run into problems on a UB9000. |
