It says 1700-odd hours on mine. Odd thing is, my 820 has been darned near bulletproof. I thought I'd play my UHD of American Pie which has some nasty scratches (and branching, which these discs from 88 Films don't always seem to work proper on Pannys anyway), and it worked absolutely perfickly.
That's now put the hex on it of coursh and now it'll blow up like it was a drummer in Spinal Tap. |

Well, folks it looks like I'll be getting my Sexbox
[Show spoiler] 9000 late tomorrow. Unless otherwise. As I've been doing research here and there and I noticed "HDR Display Type." Now that's a semi noddle-scratcher. It seems the same as the modes on Oppo, which I eventually went with 4, because it didn't give the hard edge (best way to describe it) around bright objects. Now what I'm seeing on videos and site is:- Super High Luminance LCD - Middle or High Luminance LCD - Basic Luminance LCD Now ignoring OLED and the 2 Projector types for obvious reasons. Unless someone can say otherwise. What do you think my TV (P75QX-H1) would be right for? Given the brightness of my TV I'm thinking Super High. Of course I won't really know until I get it and fool around with it. Here's a review of my TV with all the stats and whatnot. https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/vi...quantum-x-2020 Last edited by Infallible Presence; 08-02-2025 at 03:42 PM. |

Like I have an OLED but I have the Optimizer on Super High Luminance due to using LG's Dynamic Tone Mapping and have settings adjusted in the HDR Options menu on my 820. |

Definitely test the HDR setting which appears best for your setup.
I recently corrected my setup as I had overlooked my own setting back then. I had both HDR Optimizer on the player and HDR Tone Mapping on Gradient on my Sony A90K. Ended up turning the Optimizer off since the Tone Mapping on the Sony is better. |

I have noticed that my UB9000 is starting to run very hot on certain discs - like extremely hot near the back right corner, where the fan is. The fan doesn't seem to kick on. I opened the player up and ran a disc for about 40 minutes and the fan never once kicked on, despite the player becoming noticeably warm. Anyone have issues with this? |

Dolby Vision and HDR just all of the sudden stopped working on either my panny9000 or my Sony Bravia A95L TV. UHDs are only registering as Dynamic Range Conversion Output. Had my player for about 15 months and my TV for about 12 months.

Try a different HDMI cable first to see if it fixes it. Also try factory resetting the UB9000 and set it up again.

not sure what to do now - are there any fixes anyone knows ? should i exchange it for another UB820? Should I try a different player altogether? Need some help from the experts here, wanted to give this to myself as a gift and this is so disappointing. |

Okay, things are so far looking great. Picture and audio seem better than the Oppo. But than again, how many years has it been since Oppo had a firmware update? Pressing a lot of buttons to see what works and any other things. First lessen: don't press "High Clarity." It just turns the screen black and you have to stop the movie in order to get it showing. Liking the subtitles luminance control. Granted it's 50/50 for the many titles, but because of my TV's high contrast/brightness blooming does occur sometimes. Here's the player's seat of honor where the Oppo once sat.
[Show spoiler] Semi-watching "Ready Player One" as the first movie. Which seem appropriate and could arguably be my most watched 4K title. At least give or take. |

Can't say I have a lot of confidence in the drive check feature via the service menu. Last week I tried it out on my 820 and got the drive "OK" message. That was with a whopping 41 hours spin time (38 BD, 3 DVD) since I've been watching 4K BDs on another player in another room. Today, I started up the 820 and it got stuck on "Welcome!" on the front display for a minute or so (which has happened before) but I let it do its thing and it powered on. Since last week I added a whole 2 hours of BD "Laser Used Time." Did the check and now my drive has been deemed "NG."
I could just be in denial that my sparsely used unit's drive somehow suddenly failed, but I'm thinking the mediocrity of the engineering Panasonic put into these machines extends far beyond just the build quality. If your machine plays almost everything you throw at it except discs known one way or the other to be faulty, I wouldn't worry about what the drive check says. edit: just finished watching the recently released and revised Superman 1978 4K disc fresh in from mainland Europe, and my "NG" drive played it flawlessly. ![]() Last edited by BXR 1138; 08-05-2025 at 06:50 AM. |

Thanks for the tip, I get F00 which apparently means no error info or no error stored. I haven't done a factory reset.

I did not do that to my own 820 when I saw the pixelization since I had a short time with it watching Titanic. Double verified watching the same scene on my 9000 played without issues. |
