Can someone give me some assistance? I have some questions configuring my TV for the UB820. I have a Samsung MU8000. When I hold the playback info button twice to display HDR 10 metadata (during playback of Incredibles 2) should I be seeing any specific numbers in the HDMI VIDEO OUT field? Maximum Light Level is 1000 nit and the value doesn't seem to change nor does the Max Frame Average Light Level value change from a value of 0. Is this normal operational behavior? Sorry I'm new to this. Also would my TV be configured for (medium to high luminance LCD) or (Super High)?

I did not know that you can get Metadata reported in the UB820 information screen. I thought only the UB9000 could do that. I will check this tonight. Since I haven't seen metadata reported by the UB820, I can't say whether it is the metadata value contained on the disc, or the metadata values that are modified by the Optimizer. If the disc has MaxDML of 1000, and your TV type is set to one that is mapped to 1000 nits, then the Optimizer won't change the MaxDML value. If the disc has MaxDML of 4000, then the Optimizer will tone map to 1000 nits and will modify the MaxDML value that is sent to the TV to 1000 nits. The MaxCLL value can be different between the disc and the Optimizer output as well. But there is no fixed value. It could be any value up to 1000 nits depending on how the Optimizer tone mapped the highlights. I have an HDfury device that reports the metadata received from my UB820. I will try to check that it matches what is in the Information screen of the UB820. |

This is what I see. I am just curious if this is the correct information I should be seeing. I have DV Metadata turned off. HDR10+ is on because I was told the MU8000 supports it. I also have my HDR optimizer set to bright for this movie specifically. 95% of other 4Ks I typically use the Light HDR Optimzer setting.

That is standard for Disney releases. The static metadata doesn't tell you much at all about their titles. Fox is another one that is bad in this regard.

Input: MaxDML of 1000 and MaxCLL of zero. Output: MaxDML of 1000 and MaxCLL of 1000. You should try playing a 4000 nit title instead of a 1000 nit to better see what the Optimizer is doing. |

Add me to the Vudu request list (as well as Hulu and HBO Go). Anything that could help me simplify and consolidate my home theater needs into one player would be great.

Because I use a projector I have to use the 9000 due to the customization features for HDR compression but for audio quality, the LX500 wins hands down. If you use OLED or LCD, the LX500 is a great all rounder. Too bad it doesn’t have any streeaming option.
